I am told that there is a common issue with the year/make Ford that I have where the engine ends up needing replacement. The check engine light was on, so we took it into Ford and the engine “soaked up the oil” and when it was brought in it only 1.2 quarts left and was supposed to have 8 quarts. The Ford dealer stated that this is a common issue with this particular engine. Now the warranty company isn’t willing to cover without proof and Ford can’t prove because it’s an internal engine issue.
The vehicle was stopped, preparing to make a left-hand turn at a four-way intersection, in Drive with my foot on the brake. I had manually pressed the button to disable the "Auto Start-Stop" feature earlier in this trip, and the light was on indicating that feature was still disabled. While stopped, the vehicle's engine suddenly shut off. On the dashboard, the informational cluster indicated "Auto StartStop Shift to P, then Restart Engine" with the logo for that feature (An "A" in a looped arrow icon) showing below. I shifted to Neutral and restarted the vehicle with no issue - at which time the warning messages went away - and continued the drive without further incident. I have not been able to reproduce the issue, yet. I was in the vehicle with my 1-year-old son in his car seat, preparing to make a left turn across oncoming traffic when the vehicle shut itself off, placing us at considerable potential risk. The vehicle has not been inspected by police, a dealer, etc. as of yet but I will be bringing it to a Ford dealership as soon as I can. I have included an example photo of the same error I saw, taken from an internet forum. This is not my truck, but is the identical warning message to the one I saw.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHSTA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 119,964.
No accident but could have been disastrous. while driving down highway truck shifted from 10th down to 1st then back to 10th. also having issues with transmission jumping around in gears. 1to 4th back to 2nd up to 5th then rpms winding out before going into gear, or if i try to speed up it just cuts power completely. i dont see my truck under any recalls when i put my vin in which i dont understand. took to ford and they quoted 10,000 for new transmission or 6,000 for some module. warranty is past, just over 100,000 miles on it. paying a 701.00 truck payment for a truck that's out of commission sitting in my yard. first brand new vehicle ive ever purchased, what a joke. i love the truck but this is bs.
I’m on vacation in Virginia driving on [XXX] driving at 59-60 mph. Truck was in 9th gear, as I was driving truck drops down to 1st gear while in 59 mph. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
On February 16, 2024, The vehicle (F150 XLT Super Crew) that was being driven was going approximately 40 miles ph when an other vehicle came out of a side street who had a traffic stop sign. There were two school buses blocking their view and my view of anyone coming out of the development. My vehicle hit head-on the other vehicle and I blacked out. No Airbag Driver side deployed, but the seat-belt tension-er fully pulled on me. I awoke with alarms going off and smoke in the cab and in the engine. Fire Department cut all wiring. I was taken out of the vehicle by Paramedics and taken to the hospital with fractured sternum and bruises. Police were on the seen and did a report with the other driver at fault. Insurance company proceeded to have the vehicle towed and inspected and totaled the vehicle. Did not have vehicle inspected by independent company that I know of. Police report stated no air bag deployment. Hospital report showed no air bag deployment. Issues a year earlier with engine replacement by dealership under manufacturer warranty due to engine failure. No other known issues appeared for the failure.

While driving at a steady speed the transmission shifts into a lower gear unnecessarily. This has transpired on multiple occasions causing a dangerous situation.
The cam phasers have always made a loud noise at startup. When I had this looked at, dealerships told me it was just a noise and nothing to worry about. Over time, the noise got worse. Recently, the cam phasers malfunctioned so that the truck would not accelerate as usual. It was extremely slow and lacked it's typical power on acceleration. The slow acceleration placed myself, my wife and children, and other drivers at risk when I was unable to accelerate as needed in traffic. Then, the engine also started a very rough idle as if the engine was about to shut down. I was still rolling to a stop when the truck began bouncing due to the rough idle. The biuncing and rough idle can happen even when i am not at a complete stop. I just have to be off the gas. The engine slowing quickly or shutting down in the middle of traffic would pose a danger to myself, my family, and other drivers. Ford put out a customer satisfaction program in 2022 which expired in january 2023. They stated that the cam phaser would make a noise, but would pose no future threat to the functionality of the car. This was false and many ford owners are saying the same. I've called multiple dealerships who say they have tons of f150 owners in line to have their cam phasers replaced and they have to pay almost 5,000 out of pocket for it. Ford refuses to place a Recall on these defective parts that they have known were defective for years. Their satisfaction letter was not sent to me so I, like many others, was una
I noticed the steering wheel became very loose one day randomly. If you placed your hands and the 9 and 3 position on the steering wheel it would rock back and forth very freely. I carried the truck to a shop and they looked into the steering wheel and found the bolt the holds the steering wheel onto the steering column was loose. It was spinning freely is was so loose. If the bolt would have loosen a little bit more the steering wheel would have became detached.

Experienced harsh or missed shifting of gears, sudden loss of power, and clunking sounds while driving. The transmission failed only after 81,000 miles and needed a completely new remanufactured one.
𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟭: Vehicle is available for inspection. 1) Transmission: Vehicle consistently shifts aggressively around 4th gear (10 speeds total). Vehicle lurches when going above 3rd, however, it shifts correctly after 5th gear. 2) Acceleration: Vehicle randomly lurches forward or backward, depending on whether or not the vehicle is in Drive or Reverse, almost like you are slamming on the pedal, but without having pressed the pedal. This has only happened a couple of times, but it's very noticeable when it does. 3) Auto Start Stop Module: Vehicle will shut off while stopped or almost at a complete stop and the dashboard will have an error message with the auto start stop symbol and instructions that say to put the vehicle in park and turn the key to the off position and then back on. This has happened with the auto start stop button on the truck being pushed in the OFF position. This has happened in traffic multiple times, and once while reversing. 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟮: The vehicle turning off randomly or suddenly accelerating poses a large safety issue when driving on any city streets or parking lots. 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟯: Not as of yet, however, the 10r80 transmission in this truck has already been recalled on similar models and other Ford vehicles. 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟰: Transmission was already replaced in Jan. 2024 with a new factory ford transmission, but still has the same signs of transmission failure. 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟱: No lights or messages other than the auto start stop message when the truck turns off.
My 10-speed transmission started jumping gears at about 50 to 55,000, miles. I asked my Ford dealership to do a complete check of the vehicle at 58,000 mi because it was close to the 60,000 mi warranty. They told me there was nothing wrong with the truck oil change on the road off. I went. At 63,000 mi it started shifting skipping gears as it downshifted. It would jump when I went from Park to reverse or reverse to drive. I took it in to have it checked and they said the 10 speed transmission was going out. The estimate was $9,000 to replace the transmission. A third of what my truck was currently worth and having been paid off I was not happy. I've had two transmissions put in since last February and they are doing the same thing the original was. However, now it's more extensive. I would be in the passing Lane doing 75 to 80 and it dropped from 10th year to first gear and jump back the 10th gear and lost Ford momentum which put me in a bad position in the passing Lane. That was the first transmission they put in. Changed it out for another transmission cuz it was under warranty. This one did nearly the same thing. How are the RPMs? I noted were just going wacky as it dropped from 10th to 8th. Jumped back up to 10th chugged and bucked and finally smoothed out. Again as in the passing lane. The first transmission was on its first vacation, 5 hours from home when they threw the wrench onto the dash board display. The second time it happened last week, I was an hour north of ho
In 2021 and 50,000 miles I had a complete engine rebuild done due to failed cam phasers. Now 35,000 miles later, I have to have the same repair done because the campuses have failed again. After searching social media, and recognizing nothing is being done, there are post after post after post after post where vehicles have had the same issue over and over again for the 2018 to 2020 F150 3.5 L eco-boost engine. Ford has absolve themselves of all responsibility. They should definitely be looked into.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, there was an abnormally loud grinding sound coming from under the hood. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was previously repaired under Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N03 (Cam Phaser Replacement – Extended Warranty); however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the camshaft phasers had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
10 Speen Auto Transmission is shifting very hard from 1-2 or just skips 2 and goes 1-3. It shifted so hard this morning it chirped the tires. Other times it jolts me forward. When trying to accelerate it will not and almost feels like its going to stall. Almost got rear-ended one morning with my son in the truck. It is scheduled to go to dealership in 2 weeks (next opening). No warnings lights yet. Started about a week ago. Only getting worst each morning.
While driving my low brake fluid light came on. I immediately pressed the brakes to pull over and almost could not stop causing danger to myself and other drivers around. I filled the reservoir for it to all leak out again in three miles. I filled it two more times and it keeps saying low fluid and losing my brakes. I inspect under the vehicle to find no visible fluid. It is leaking from the master cylinder into the brake booster. There is a recall for this on other 2018 f150 super crews. I will be bringing this to my local ford dealer to confirm the issue.
The entire transmission blew up and went out while my son was driving on the highway. It won't engage in any gears and was completely stranded on the highway. Thankfully he wasn't injured or hit when this happened! This could have killed him!! This year of F-150 has known transmission issues but there are no recalls. It will cost $10K to repair and the value of the vehicle is only $15K! This truck is totaled and undriveable. Now he is stuck unable to go to work and support his fiancé and [XXX] daughter. Again, he is lucky he didn't get killed when this completely blew up while driving at a high rate of speed. Ford needs to do better and issue a recall to fix this now! Now he is paying $650 for a truck he can't drive or fix. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Cam phasers have gone out. This is the second time this vehicle has unsafely died in the 30k miles we have owned this vehicle. Ford refuses to help cover the costs.
When driving my 2018 f150 home from work I was on the interstate and was on the accelerator pedal and I had let off and when I went to get back on the pedal I noticed the truck was not going I looked down as the dash and the gear ratio was going from 10th gear down to 1st gear and kept bouncing back and fort from 10th to 1st gear until it finally went back into gear I felt as my safety and others around me were at Risk because I was scared that the transmission was going to catch in 1st gear while going highway speeds so I quickly got off at the next exit and the transmission just felt terrible like it didn’t want to shift and when it did they were extremely laggy and hard shifts and the truck was going right into 10th gear at 20mph shortly after this incident a wrench popped up and multiple other warning lights such as traction control, hill assist etc… I have not had the vehicle inspection by a dealership because when I called I was told they were backed up waiting for multiple transmissions for vehicles so they ran a scan on my truck by my vin number and it had the same few codes such as P07F7(gear ratio 10 incorrect) U0253(lost communication with accessory protocol interface, module) and U0140(lost communication with body control module) I was told by the ford dealership that the transmission was going to need to be pulled and possibly a new transmission but nothing was covered under warranty because the truck was just out of warranty so it would have to be out of pocket
Ford is to be aware or rattle on cold star but decline to Repair it and wants us to pay for it. I’ve brought up the concerns to them but no action on their part or solution has been given with a 41,000 miles truck there are many other people with same issues.
When driving the transmission skips which causes passengers to hit their heads on the back head rest thrusting our bodies toward the windshield. It is not safe to drive. Had it worked on just after we purchased it. Gears from 2 to 3 and sometimes at higher rates of speed the vehicle jerks and eventually will probably leave us stranded.
The windshield wipers will sometimes go off when they are not on.
The transmission has been slipping, skipping gears, downshifting in traffic, high rpm catch, shuddering and remaining in higher gears at stops

Transmission misses gears, causes truck to rev and then bang into gear. Accelerating onto highways or to pass the vehicle alternately loses power or over revs then the truck jerks around and slams into gear. Accelerating to enter a highway is dangerous because you cant be sure it will continue to accelerate, avoiding other cars is not always possible when the transmission is slipping. We have had it to a shop, we have had the TCM reprogrammed, we have had the transmission valve body replaced, nothing makes it better. There is a light that looks like a wrench that eventually came on after a few weeks of the above. Then the light randomly went off and the transmission acted ok for about 2 weeks, then it came back on and its worse than ever now.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the vehicle t was rattling and vibrating abnormally until the engine had warmed up. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated the failure was intermittent but had become a recurring failure. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the cam phaser needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact had researched online and related the failure to the manufacturer's Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N03 Cam Phaser replacement (Engine and Engine Cooling). The contact called and informed the manufacturer of the failure and was informed that the vehicle was not included in the Customer Satisfaction Program. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
The 10 speed system transmission will jump between gears and will unexpectedly slip into neutral or 1st gears without warning. It is available for inspection. While accelerating, system will intermittently slip into neutral leaving the driver without power. This may only last a few seconds before slamming back into whichever gear it is suppose to be in. Sometimes, system would lose complete acceleration while pulling into traffic. The problem has been reproduced by the Ford dealer with a statement that the only thing they could do is replace the entire transmission. Discussion with Ford customer service stated that they would not be able to assist with repairs and there is no recall for these transmissions. The vehicle or components have not been inspected by the anyone other than a Ford dealer. System fault does come on when the transmission loses gear. This is an ongoing issue and has been occuring for about 6 months. It happens more often when it hasn't been driven for a while or while cold but it will happen anytime of the year. It will also sometimes slip into neutral and you must shut the car off and back on to regain power train ability. A video is available but currently unable to upload it due to MB size restrictions.
Very bad rattle on start up from the cam phasers in the 3.5 Ecoboost. Could cause possible engine failure and most likely advanced engine wear. 10 speed automatic transmission already having rough shifts from 3-5 gear change. Clunks into reverse. These issues have been going on since I've gotten the truck, taken it to 3 different dealers and have had my coverage denied. Please note my vehicle only has 39k miles on it. The fact that ford has not recalled these trucks is truly embarrassing. The 10 speed and the 3.5 Ecoboost are notorious for issues.

The alarm system and hazards will randomly go on and will not turn off until you start vehicle and hit the hazard light button. If you hit the hazard button while the vehicle is off, it does not turn the hazards off. They will often remain flashing even if the horn/alarm system isn't blaring. At times hitting the hazard button has made the horn go off. The truck has started locking itself and keypad will not work to unlock only the key fob. Truck has not been driven at night since this has occurred to notice if its affecting the headlights. We have noticed that it is also affecting the cabin climate controls (air conditioning/heat). The source of the problem appears to be a malfunction with the Body Control Module (BCM). Prior to these issues arising, there were no warning or messages that appeared on the dash. The truck has been driving great. Now the check engine light is on and have to disconnect the battery so that it doesn't go off in the middle of the night again.

Took my Ford F150 in for an oil change. Ford dealer informed me the steering gear assembly had completely broke near the gear box at only 68k (I do not know when the break happened). Although the vehicle is drivable, it has a chance of losing steering at any time and was advised not to drive it. No vehicle warnings are provided, and the truck has been regularly serviced over the years without me being informed of an issue. It is available for inspection as I am on a waitlist for a backordered steering gear assembly part.

Driving down interstate highway at 75 mph in cruise and transmission seemed to drop out and vehicle slowed down almost causing a bad wreck. Mashed the gas and the vehicle jerked and finally picked back up. Scary !!! The transmission seems to jerk harshly at times when it shifts, or as it drops down going up slopes.
THIS VEHICLE WOULD STOP. I LOST CONTROL HIT THE VECHICLE IN FRONT ME THAT STOP WITH NO LIGHTS ON.
Three times in the last year while driving north on interstate 91 coming down a long steep hill entering the town of Springfield, Vermont while my f-150 was in cruise control traveling at 70 mph the transmission has down shifted all by itself to fifth gear without me touching anything. I have not taken it to my local dealer as they want to charge me 135.00 dollars per hour just to look at it. Also my doors freeze anytime it gets below 32 degrees! Can not latch doors shut once they freeze.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
