The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving downhill at approximately 45 MPH, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted to first gear, causing the RPMs to elevate abnormally, and the vehicle decelerated unintendedly. Additionally, it was discovered that the vehicle would only drive uphill while using manual transmission mode and could not drive uphill in automatic transmission mode. The contact stated that later, the transmission malfunction wrench was displayed. The vehicle was towed the local dealer who discovered metal shavings inside the transmission fluid and advised the contact that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 100,000.
When speeding up and downshifting the transmission will shift up and down rapidly and repetitive. Example, when passing another vehicle. Seems to do it when the transmission has to downshift more than one gear. Starting happening after truck got recent pcm update. Doesn’t happen when only downshifting one gear.
Break light and warning came on. “Low Breakfluid” Next got off ramp put my foot on break and no breaks. Was able to stop using down shift and did not plow into anyone. thank goodness. There is a recall on other non diesel f150s fyu
Pant is flaking off roof and tail gate in 1/8 to 1/4 inch pieces. Offord white paint. Clearly a manufacturing defect . 2018 F150 has approx. 27,000 miles on it, Filed a claim with ford dealer Gosch in Murrieta Ca 92563.
SINCE I PURCHSED THIS TRUCK IT HAS BEEN TO THE 3 FORD GARAGES. AT FIRST I HAD A VIBRATION IN 3 RD GEAR AND 7TH. FINALLY AFTER SPENDING A LOT OF MONEY A FORD SERVICE SAID IT WAS THE DRIVE SHAFT. THE VIBRATION LESSONED. FOR THE PAST 6 MONTHS THE TRANSMISSION PAUSES BETWEEN SHIFTS MAKING DANGROUS WHEN YOUR MOVING THEN THE TRUCK PAUSES FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS. FIRST YOU COULD GRT HIT FROM THE REAR. SECOND IF YOUR TURING ONTO A LANE AND IT PAUSES AS SOMEONE IS COMING. POSSIBLE ACCIDENT.
The car has very bad cam phasers that are a manufacturing issue from ford. This is causing a lot of damage to the engine and also it has put me in very dangerous situations because of the huge decrease in power when I am exiting into a highway or changing lanes. I have spoke to ford and they did not want to help me especially when they have had multiple recalls for this in the past and even extended recalls. Please help me with this, because it's a big issue and it's a manufacturing problem from ford.

The contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal, the transmission struggled while shifting into, and out of 2nd gear. The contact stated that once the vehicle hard warmed up, the transmission was shifting normally. The contact stated that there were no warning lights illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle back to the same dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed, and it was determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.
Transmission shifts erratically causing loss of power at highway speeds. Transmission issues have occurred since the first month of ownership. Truck lunging when in park, down shifting from 10th gear to 7th at highway speeds, etc. Early problems/concerns were mentioned to service advisors when the truck would be taken in for service but I was always told, that is just the way that the 10R80 works. As time progressed, shifting issues got worse. They significantly increased after the powertrain warranty expired. Currently the truck shifts erratically in low and high gears and frequently experiences a complete loss of power travelling on the interstate. My biggest concern is that this is a known issue by the Ford Motor Company that has not been properly addressed via recall. The CDF drum inside of the transmission has a known design flaw and has been revised to eliminate the issue. The web forums dedicated to the F150 and any other model of vehicle ford equipped with the 10R80 are littered with similar stories and concerns regarding the transmission. ultimately, with the total loss of power at highway speeds and the need to immediately vacate lanes of travel to allow the vehicle enough time to figure out what gear it needs to be in, or to shift appropriately to regain highway speeds poses an immediate threat to any vehicle equipped with the 10R80 transmission and the original, or any early design, CDF drum. I would also like to note that I entered this with the most recent occur
While driving i was coming to a stop approaching a traffic circle. I had to yield the car already in the circle as i was stopping the truck made a clunk and lunged forward while i was breaking forcing me to enter the circle before it was safe to do so. I almost collided with the approaching vehicle with a child in the car. Another instance the vehicle between shifting gears randomly lost power as if it shifted into neutral, then a loud clunk as it finally found the gear when it did the vehicle lunged forward. Another instance with the vehicle in park i started the engine, after the starter finished and the engine turned over there was a loud clunk and the vehicle lunged forward in park enough that the tires made a noise and could have hit a parked car in-front of me. The dealership said it is a known issues with the 10R80 transmission and will cost me $8,000 to $10,000 to repair. This transmission has always clunked and missed gears since i bought it new in 2018 and i have had it looked at multiple times, but the dealerships always said its “normal” Ford knows this is an issues and has not issued a recall and it is very dangerous.

The 2018 F-150 has a huge oil consumption problem, constantly having to add oil after several hundred miles driving the truck, at a minimum a qt at a time. The F-150 10speed transmisson also has a hard shift and jerks while shifting gears, after it warms up it the harshness of the hard shift goes away but still has the hard shifts. There is no warning lights on the dash, and it can be reproduced. Have on several occasions with the hard shifting almost caused several accidents being rear ended due to the truck not shifting out of gears as it should. Along with several times on the interstate after having to stop for other accidents and the truck not getting back up up to speed as it should.
Was driving approximately 55 MPH on a busy highway when all of a sudden vehicle lost all power and check engine and service lights came on. I had to immediately try and merge to the side of the road which created a unsafe situation causing traffic to slow immediately behind me so that I could coast to the side of the road and into a parking lot. Engine still running, transmission issue. Felt like it was in neutral; however vehicle selector was in drive. Had vehicle towed to dealer and was told it is an internal transmission issue and that I need a new transmission. They want to charge 11K to replace with new one. Ford rebuilt this transmission at approximately 29k due to issues and 80k miles later having issues again. This transmission always shifted hard and would drop down in gear while traveling creating an unsafe situation. Ford knows about the issues with these transmissions in the 2018 year F150's and hasn't implemented any recalls, only TSB's that don't fix the issue. I am still getting quotes from other repair shops to replace the transmission.
First, when the truck is at a stop (red/stop sign), acceleration fails, resulting in a sudden, hard jolt into gear or a complete loss of power. Near rear end collision occurrence avoided several times. Second, while driving 0-30MPH there is a constant hard swift into gear causing a forward/backward jolt of all passengers. Last, and most significant, is the sudden loss of power experienced with highway driving. While driving 75-80MPH, sudden deceleration occurs. The gears shift spontaneously from 8/9 down to 1. Speeds are not capable of being manually controlled, by the driver, at that time. What happens next, is either a sudden jolt into gear following deceleration or complete Loss of power. Collision was avoided by pulling off to the side of the road. This sudden deceleration occurs also when attempting to merge into highway traffic. Here again, a rear end collision was narrowly avoided. The truck was serviced to evaluate the cause of this issue, by independent service station technician (vehicle no longer under warrant). They stated that the transmission was the problem and, after consulting with Ford, a computer upgrade was performed. This unfortunately had no impact on the above problem, despite following the recommended "break in" time. Currently the truck is not operable as the transmission is too unpredictable and erratic, rendering it unsafe to drive. This truck currently has only 46,000miles. Ford customer service was notified of this problem who in turn suggested we
The 10R80 transmission slipping in 1st gear, the engine will rev to 2000 rpm and without warning the transmission slams into gear causing the tires to spin. The loss of ability to engage into gear caused me to need to pull over to the side of the road on two separate times. This has happened when the transmission temperature is cooler. The failure occurs unexpectedly. I have brought the vehicle to a local transmission repair business.

There is a problem with the transmission in this truck. it slips out of gear randomly and you lose all power and the RPMs spike.it also slams into gear and sometimes wont shift at all. Apparently, Ford is aware of this problem but refuses to correct it. This is incredibly dangerous especially in traffic or merging. I was almost rearended several times. I've had this truck since it was new and I've never towed or hauled heavy stuff in it.I should not need a new transmission with barely 70 thousand miles on it.

My 2018 Ford F150 had issues such as harsh shifting, jerking, lunging, hesitation, and loss of power. Every time my truck was in the Ford dealer I asked them to check the transmission. Every time they told me there was no issue with the transmission. The jerking/slipping/hard shifting got progressively worse. I took my truck back to the Ford dealer. The truck had 69K miles. The dealer stated I need a new transmission. Ford was not offering any financial relieve. I asked the dealer if they tried the TSB issued by Ford. The dealer stated they have never got them to work. Ford is aware of defective transmissions in there 10 speed model but are only fixing them for Trucks that are still under warranty.
Transmission shifted from 1st to forth and back down causing sudden stop barely avoiding a rear end collision with evasive maneuvers from other drivers. This condition repeated other times with no traffic. if I allowed it to continue and accident is eminent. I have taken the vehicle to a transmission shop for repairs. This condition is a manufacturing defect acknowledged by Ford and I am dumfounded why this agency has not required a recall for this dangerous condition. I guess you want to see someone die before you take action.
APIM has failed and must be replaced. This means that there is no back-up camera, navigation, radio, climate control, etc.
10 speed transmission is defective. Vehicle would not shift when going from a stop and almost caused several accidents when entering flow of traffic from a side street.
The button on the steering wheel get hot then fail to work this has happened several times i have complained to ford. The cruise control quits working and all the buttons for the dash menu quit working. I will be driving down the road with the cruise control on and all of a sudden it will quit working. Then it will just come back on like you never shut it off and when you least expect it. when this happens you can not shut the thing off its gonna cause an accident.
When the transmission is going to shift into 4th it hesitates then suddenly shifts to 8th then 1st and the vehicle rapidly and unexpectedly negatively accelerates. I am adding yesterdays date but this has been intermittent since 2019 and I’ve had it in the Ford dealership while under warranty even back then.

The contact stated that on several occasions after adding brake fluid to the brake fluid reservoir, and test driving the vehicle around the neighborhood, the brake warning light illuminated. The contact stated that each time the brake fluid reservoir was checked and was empty. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a complaint was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.
10R80 Transmission Transmission has very prolonged delay when switching to certain gears which results in loss of power when merging onto roads causing near misses because it takes so long to engage the gear. Truck has zero power during this shift delay. The shift delays are caused by an issue that ford KNOWS about where a bushing (CDF drum) shifts a little bit inside the transmission. Vehicle is not safe to drive. When the gear finally does engage, there is a violent jerk/surge forward which can be impossible to control.
Was making a left hand turn cutting across traffic at a stop light. Transmission gears slipped causing me to lose power halfway thru a high speed intersection. Other vehicles had to hit curbs to avoid me. This is a common and well known problem with Ford 10R80 transmissions. Someone will eventually end up dying from these issues
As you prepare to stop or tap the brakes, the transmission shifts into a different gear, such as the "tow mode" or the "sport mode" independently. This would down shift, throwing occupants forward. Then, to return to "regular" drive mode I would need to either tap the brake brake until reaching the desired "mode", or depress the gear button located at the end of the shift lever. This action jerks the driver and passengers forward without prior warning of the transmissions shifting. This has occurred since owning the F150.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was a misfire coming from the engine and several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was unofficially diagnosed with failed catalytic convertor sensors, which provided false failure codes. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with catalytic convertor failure. The contact was informed that the catalytic convertor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 113,000.
The component that malfunctioned was the automatic transmission, when leaving from a full stop, I released the brake and pushed on the accelerator, and the vehicle began to move forward and shortly after that it went out of gear and stopped accelerating. The engine just revved up, I let off the accelerator and it slammed hard into gear then started moving forward again. My safety and the safety of my wife and children who were riding with me was put at risk two of the three times, as I was turning into traffic, when the car lost forward momentum from the issue, there was oncoming traffic that almost hit me one time and could have hit me another, if the car had not slammed back into gear and started moving again. I am concerned that if it does it again at some point it may not eventually get in gear again and we could be struck by a vehicle, or rear ended. I have had the problem reproduced one time by an independent mechanic who rode with me. when was looking to get it diagnosed. With out charging me to take it apart and complete a repair he said he believed based on the symptoms and common problems they see with the 10R80 transmission in these years that the CDF drum is going bad. he said it can cause symptoms like this or slipping out of higher gear and down into first causing loss of forward momentum and high engine revving. The repair would require a rebuild or replacement of the automatic transmission. I have not had the component inspected by the manufacturer because it
While going 60mph or above, transmission automatically shifts from 10th to 1st gear! 1st gear has not locked into gear yet while doing this but if did there would be a catastrophic accident.
The contact's husband owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The dealer was notified of the failure and diagnosed the vehicle with a defective cam phaser. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that the vehicle was not covered under the Customer Satisfaction Program. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
CDF hub failure. Transmission falls out of gear or shifts really hard especially on the freeway or when turning and it’s down shifting. Took vehicle to the dealership and Ford acknowledged the failure and they have known about it but have not issued a recall. FORD says it’s a design flaw on their part.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed, and the vehicle failed to respond as needed. Additionally, the contact stated that the transmission failed to shift properly, and the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to coast to the side of the road. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the CDF drum had failed. The dealer determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHSTA Hotline for assistance. The vehicle remained with the dealer and had not been driven since the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,300.
10R80 transmission have many issues regarding their shifting and the use of the adaptive tables. Have experienced multiple hard shifts, flare shifts and the occasional downshift in the heads up display. It will be in a higher gear like 7 or 6 and show it dowshifted to 1 for two seconds. Then it goes back to normal. Previous owner already had the transmission repaired and it still has the same issues. I get a code a few minutes later after it shifts horrible for a few minutes. Pointing to issues with the incorrect gear ratios. These transmissions are hazardous as it will happen randomly and will go back to normal most of the time. Have been caught at a light before where it won't shift down back to 1st. I have to put it in park or reverse for a few seconds for the transmission to find itself. Very dangerous to be doing that in traffic. Have had multiple near misses. Of course Ford just says the transmission needs to be changed out for a new one. At 9K-10K for the repair each time and frequently its absurd. The issues have to be fixed or else you are stuck buying a new transmission every 50-100K. I have 90's Ford's with the original transmission still working.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle hesitated while shifting from second to third gear. The contact stated that over time the failure became more frequent with the check engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and a transmission software update was performed; however, the failure returned two days after the update. The dealer later determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 34,000.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
