On 4 occasions, my F150 has went in reverse when transmission was in the drive position. The truck would travel backwards 3 to 5 feet before shutting off. The first time happened at a stop sign. Nearly backed into another vehicle. PCM was reprogrammed. 2nd time occurred on leaving my driveway. Ford replaced an ABS module. 3rd time happened in front of my house. Ford found bent pin on PCM. 4th time occurred at waste facility after unloading trash. Vehicle went in reverse when transmission was in drive. Vehicle went backwards at least 3 feet. Nearly backed into a ford F250 and pinned driver of vehicle between the 2 trucks. Ford has changed a relay. I have contacted Ford by chat, phone, and email. The case manager refuses to communicate with me about this matter.
First experienced slight steering weaving for a week. Then electric power steering assist completely went out. $2,450 bill to replace. This issue has been to common with F150's and should be a recall fix for free issue. Requesting assistance
Since purchasing this vehicle from a dealership, I have had repeated problems with getting a blue screen on the rearview camera when truck is in reverse. This results in no visibility for backing up other than mirrors. A soft reset would often resolve the issue. However, now it is nothing but a blue screen. Why is the recent recall not including the F150 trucks?
- Cam Phasers failed. Ford installed faulty Cam Phasers in their 2017-2020 Ford F150 trucks that cost $5,700 to fix. It is a very well known issue. No, you can not inspect the issue due to the fact that you have to take apart the engine to get to them. - When Cam Phasers fully malfunction the engine is blown and will need to replace the engine. - Yes, it was diagnosed by a dealership - No warning lamps. There is a rattling sound when starting the vehicle and after research there is a ton of videos with the exact same thing happening to others.
Transmission makes a sudden hard down shift..... and it always throwing codes ... well maintained but getting too expensive.... 2017 F150 ecoboost 3.5... jumped into lump mode while between 2 semi trucks and one one my side also.... I held down on the throttle so that it wouldn't stop in between the semis and finally had a chance to pull over.... turn my vehicle off... it drove normal but now have another code... possible misfire.... cylinder 1 and 4.... last month it was cylinder 3... I've talked with Ford on helping with the bill they said they don't do that... but offered me some other things that may be covered undered some other recall.... every other month it's something... ooo yeah, had cam phaser done also.... out of pocket... can't find the cam phaser bill but if you need it I can request a copy from the mechanic shop.... Experienced transmission down shifting at highway speeds. Traveling at approx 75 mph in OH, when truck down shifted to 5th gear and showed warning message "drive train malfuction", message cleared on key cycle. Issue again occurred 8 days later in OH/PA return trip home. No message in cluster, but vehicle returned to normal operation after key cycle. Vehicle has operated normally for the last week. Dealer tried to pull codes, none set. Appointment made to have them look at truck, but they don't expect to find anything. Continue to drive truck, and IF message in cluster reappears bring it by if possible.
Car rolls freely when placed in park
Sudden jerking movements when accelerating and braking. Needs new transmission. Reading there have been many reports of 10R80 transmission issues with Ford

While driving, my 2017 Ford F-150 with the 6-speed automatic will sometimes suddenly downshift on its own. This causes a hard jerk and a sudden change in speed, which feels unsafe especially at higher speeds. At other times, the truck will not shift into gear at all. For example, when backing out of a driveway or parking spot in reverse and then shifting into drive, the truck stalls. The only way to fix it is to put the truck completely in park, shut it off, and restart it before it will go into gear. This has forced me to be stopped in the middle of the road after backing out, waiting for the truck to restart, which is extremely dangerous when there is oncoming traffic. This has been occurring off and on for a long time now not just one date.

I was driving my 2017 F150 3.5 eco-boost at highway speeds when I suddenly was in 10th gear and it dropped to first gear locked in my rear tires up while driving 70 miles an hour a manual light appeared in my dash which was the ones wrench. I noticed it would shift down gears on its own when I didn’t slow down, but when I went up and dropped back down to first gear every time. Vehicle is currently in shop. My safety was put at risk when I was driving 70 miles an hour down the highway in my 2017 F150 lariat in my transmission shifted from 10th year down to first locking my rear tires my transmission is a 10R80
The lead frame failed and was replaced by Ford dealer. The vehicle downshifts while driving. This through a code “wrench” on the dash board indicating something needed to be addressed. Took vehicle to a couple repair shops and a transmission shop and all confirmed it was a faulty lead frame. Transmission shop said to contact Ford because there had been recalls on this very issue for the same year and model truck. This issue started a couple months prior to the repair which was on 8/8/2025. I did call Ford and they gave me a phone number for Auto Line Program. I filed a complaint but it denied.
Cruising on the highway then transmission down shift to 4th gear happened twice
This vehicle is subject to NHTSA Recall #25V236 (Ford Recall #25S37) for a defective brake master cylinder that can leak into the brake booster, reducing braking effectiveness and creating a serious crash risk. The recall was issued on April 11, 2025. As of today, Ford has not provided any remedy. My local dealership confirmed that no fix is available, and Ford Corporate has refused to provide a loaner, rental allowance, or written timeline. This leaves me with an unsafe vehicle that I cannot rely on. This recall has been open for months without resolution, and Ford’s refusal to provide assistance places me and the public at risk. I request that NHTSA investigate Ford’s failure to provide a remedy in a timely manner, require Ford to provide comparable loaner/rental vehicles until the repair is available, and hold them accountable for this unreasonable delay.

When using the truck in S transmission mode , The back wheels unexpectantly lock up due to a severe downshift. I reported this to the Ford Dealer when it first happened likely around 2018. The dealer kept the truck and reviewed the complaint. They reported that they couldn’t reproduce the downshift so nothing was done. I used the truck in that mode as recent as yesterday. I was going downhill around 20 mph and it downshifted hard once again. It seems to happen when the truck is coasting down an inclined road or when driving say 50 mph and pressure on the gas pedal is slightly reduced.
The drivers airbag cover is cracked. This has happened to everyone I have talked to with the same vehicle. Also is a topic on many f150 public forums. I think this should be addressed by Ford.

I was driving on the PA turnpike and upon hitting a pothole or bump the mount on the frame that the lower control arm bolts onto broke off. I was going under the speed limit with two small children in the car and a piece of my frame broke off after a slight bump. Every mechanic and person I speak to at ford is saying it shouldn't have happened and they can't believe it. There was no warning and I drove onto the turnpike got almost all the way home before it randomly broke. I spoke with Ford and they are unwilling to help after running my VIN. They say unless I put a complaint in and you open a recall that they will not help me. This is a 2017 truck with minimal rust it should not be breaking off a simple bump on the highway. I had a 9 year old and a 10 month old in the car and the front left of my suspension broke away from the vehicle after routine driving. Something needs to be done about the situation ford should be more concerned they have a frame break on such a new vehicle. Thank you for your time.
Timing system failed at 73,000 miles causing engine stall loosing power brakes and control.
On July 18, 2025, I was fueling my vehicle at COSTCO. I put my vehicle in park, exited and left the door open while I waited for my credit card to clear so I could start fueling my vehicle. I was out of the vehicle for about a minute when the vehicle started to move backwards. I was standing between the open door and the drivers seat and was startled when it began to move. I was hopping on one foot trying to get back into the vehicle. Ultimately, the open door hit a column at the station. There was damage done to my door. There was no warning that made me aware that the vehicle wasn't still in park and there was an impending issue.
With low miles on my vehicle I’m experiencing cam phasers start becoming very loud and rattling coming from my engine compartment due to the cam phasers as I research I found that it will eventually shred up the inside of the engine and destroy it, I wouldn’t want to be going down the highway and my engine lock up do to this issue and many other people’s issues of the same exact thing this is a major safety issue that needs to be fixed for me and the multiple multiple other people that have complained also

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where an oil change was performed, and the battery was tested, and the contact was informed that the battery was in good condition. Upon leaving the mechanic, the vehicle shut off again but another attempt to jumpstart the vehicle failed. The vehicle was towed to a dealer. The vehicle remained with the dealer for four days; however, the dealer could not duplicate the failure. The failure persisted upon return of the vehicle and the vehicle was towed to LaFontaine Ford Grand Rapids (3385 Alpine Ave NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49544); where it remained unrepaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 74,800.

When I turn my windshield wipers on during rain, I can't turn them back off. They WILL NOT TURN BACK OFF. I have to pull off the road and turn the truck off and then restart the truck.. Sometimes this works and sometimes this doesn't work either. THIS IS A VERY ANNOYING PROBLEM. This can be a safety issue if I am trying to deal with this and get off the road to turn the truck off. I also own a 2019 F150 and now it has started doing the EXACT same issue. I don't feel this is a problem for the owner. I feel there is a defect in these two trucks. I feel there should be a recall on this issue. I have talked to the Ford dealership about this issue. There are no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. The date this first started is around April 2025 but I don't know the exact date. THANK YOU VERY MUCH:

My 2017 Ford F-150 is experiencing an oil pan leak. F150 model is equipped with the 2.7L EcoBoost engine. This is a lack of RTV adhesion at the oil pan seal. My dealership wants over 1k to fix which I refuse to pay. This issue was created by poor engineering and craftsmanship on Fords end and the consumer should not have to pay to fix this known issue. I understand there is a fix that involves a 1-piece aluminum pan, as seen on many you tube videos. I'm requesting that Ford be held responsible for fixing this issue and not the consumer, who paid a lot of money for this truck. Any help in getting this resolved would be greatly appreciated.
While driving with my cruise control at 75, the instrument cluster began to blink on and off like it was shorting out. Then the truck would suddenly downshift and search for a gear. It continued to do this until I could exit the highway. The truck aggressively downshifted multiple times quickly decelerating the vehicle. It was pretty scary.
Vehicle transmission will instantly drop to gears 3 to 5 (limp mode from what I have researched) & wrench light comes on. Very dangerous on the interstate traveling at 70mph+, seems to happen more frequently on hotter days. You can park & turn off vehicle, then crank back up, & it is out of limp mode but transmission is sluggish. Initially it was happening once per week on avg, now it is a toss up on each drive I do whether it goes into limp mode or not.
My truck dies for no reason when in park, or drive going very slowly. My vehicle is available for inspection if desired. This is very dangerous to have a running vehicle die when driving, or stopped at a red light. This has happened multiple times. I usually know when it's about to happen because my vehicle shakes, sometimes very hard, right before it happens. The dealership has stated that it will be expensive to diagnose because it happens irregularly, and they have no idea what could be causing it. No warning lamps, engine light, or any messages prior to staling. However, as stated prior, sometimes the vehicle shakes just before stalling. My vehicle is a 2017, and this just began about seven months ago. I had just had the dealership put in a new transmission and water pump . It never happened prior to that service.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the contact heard a knocking sound coming from the engine. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and it was determined that the cam phaser needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was relating to the failure of Customer Satisfaction Program 21N03: (GTDI Engine Cam Phaser Replacement); however, the VIN was not included in the program. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under a recall related to the failure. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 84,000.
Transmission started jumping hard from park to drive , progressed dropping from higher gear to lower gears hard while driving causing the truck to lock up and skid does it at both higher speeds and lower speeds even while idling down the road .
There is an engine rattle when starting the vehicle. I took my vehicle to Ford of Upland dealership. They said I need to replace my VCT Solenoids and water pump. This was a known issue for this year and make of vehicle and I never received any notification. Now, they want to change me $6000 to repair it. There was TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 23-2143 issued for this defect.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the check engine light had illuminated and the vehicle had experienced rough operation. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the cam phasers were faulty and advised that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 144,000.
When the vehicle is started, the cam phasers rattle, and yes, it is available for inspection upon request. Ford mechanics and other mechanics have stated that if not replaced, the cam phasers will eventually fail. This puts others at risk as the auto start/stop feature shuts the engine off anytime the vehicle comes to a stop. If the cam phasers failed while stopped in the road, the vehicle would not start back up, causing a rear end collision and possible injury/death to anyone on the road. The problem exists in the 2015-2018 Ford F150 3.5L ecoboost. Ford resolved the issue in the 2019 model F150 by replacing the cam phasers with ones that are built with better quality. I am unsure if the vehicle issue has been inspected by others. There have been no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. It first appeared in my vehicle around this year.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle in the morning, there was white smoke coming from exhaust pipes. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the engine. The dealer observed a crack in the cylinder head gasket. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 99,000.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
