UNKNOWN Called a Ford dealership and they stated 2 other vehicles of the same year/make/model had similar issues. They couldn't find the issue. The touch screen radio got super hot to the point of not being able to touch it. Can't control the radio or climate from main panel. Can't lock or unlock truck manually or with key. Can't roll down windows from drivers side or adjust mirrors. Blind spot warning came on and at the same time all the tire pressure sensors lit up on the dash as well as the parking aid warning and airbag light. Worried about the risk of airbag deploying without cause, or fire from the radio getting so hot.

The right front brake hose split, leading to a complete loss in braking capability while the truck was moving. The brake went to the floor with no braking. I have looked online and found multiple cases of this brake hose splitting in exactly this place. Fortunately, I was able to safely come to a stop.

Extreme corrosion to the transfer case casting around all of the fasteners. The corrosion is so bad that the case is starting to separate and leak fluid. There is a severe vibration in the drive train and it is believed to be the cause.

Faulty exhaust manifold design has created a dangerous situation in my truck. Broken exhaust manifold is causing catalytic converter to get very hot and potentially dangerous. I feel this is a poor design in the gen 1 f150, ford should be responsible for taking care of this. They knew about the problem and I have since redesigned the manifold It cost upwards of 2000 dollars to have this replaced

On three occasions my vehicle went into a “FAIL-SAFE MODE” . The first occurrence happened while I’m driving on dry pavement at approx 45mph. Unexpectedly the engine shakes and slowed the vehicle to 5mph while I’m in medium to heavy traffic. I was on a two lane road and had to quickly pull off to the shoulder. The second occurrence was while I was merging in heavy traffic and accelerating into the flow of that traffic. As the FAIL-SAFE MODE made my vehicle rapidly slow the cars behind me had to swerve and make fast lane changes. I engaged my emergency flashers to caution other drivers until I could escape the roadway on to a private driveway. The third occasion was similar to the first. Each time the FAIL-SAFE MODE happened a warning message appeared on my dash with a description of the problem and a large wrench appeared. Two different messages appeared. Twice the message was regarding a failure in the TRACTION. CONTROL. Once the message was about a problem with the HILL DESCENT CONTROL. After each event I turned off the engine, waited a few minutes, restarted the engine and was able to drive away like nothing happened. The owners manual instructed me to stop driving and have the vehicle towed to the dealer. The dealer has now had my vehicle for a month. They computer on this vehicle erases the code when the engine is restarted. So they cannot fix this problem. I asked the service manager at the dealership to reach out to the manufacturer which he did. The manufacture’s resp

Both rear taillights fill up with water and shorts out the light bulbs. This makes the brake lights and turn lights non-functional. The taillights were replaced with OEM Ford parts and the new ones leaked as the previous ones. The water in the taillight assemblies could short out the wiring harness and the computer tied to it. The corrosion and rust on the wiring harness could cause fault codes up and down the wiring harness. Research online shows this is a common problem in late model Ford F-150. This problem must be fixed by Ford.

Both factory brake lines ruptured and had to be replaced. The first was passenger side front brake line. I thought it was an anomaly or possibly even vandalism since it happened in a high school parking lot. Then, the driver's side ruptured several months later. Both times the vehicle was in motion but thankfully both times were in the parking lot and not the interstate. I was able to stop the vehicle with the parking brake since the brake pedal lost pressure. Had it been on the interstate, I would likely not be writing this message.

The vehicle experienced intermittent starting issues for a few days, then left my son stranded in the middle of an intersection after it would not crank. Was able to finally get it started and get it home, but had to get it towed to the dealership the next day. I was able to get a code with a scanner that pointed to a fault in the transmission range sensor circuit. I did some research and discovered the problem was likely a defective molded lead frame inside the transmission. There have been many instances when this part has failed and there was a known problem with earlier model year vehicles that had an extension of the factory warranty. I paid to have the repair completed at a cost of $1430.31 but I believe this should have been a service bulletin item or a recall because of previously reported problems. I was without this vehicle for over 2 weeks.

I was driving at a slow speed on a dirt road directly into the sun when it was just rising. The conditions of the sky were slightly hazey. The entire windshield turned into a bright white light. (from right to left and top to bottom covering every square inch of the windshield) I could no longer see outside in front of me. I stopped. It was brighter than the sun 100 fold. No matter where I moved, the bright light of the windshield did not allow me to see. I had to roll down my window and place my head outside the vehicle to keep from driving off the road and into a different direction about a mile up the road. After going in a different direction everything was all right. I am concerned for other drivers that they may encounter this similar situation possibly causing an accident. My conclusions were: 1. The direct sunlight into the multiple star pits caused from highway/roadway gravel onto the windshield combined with windshield wiper fluid created the bright light that made the vehicle unsafe and undrivable. 2. The angle positioning of the windshield had something to do with the bright light... 3. The use of armoural on the dashboard as a preservative caused a chemical reaction onto the inside of the windshield (greasing the inside of the windshield contributing to the flash of bright light across the windshield). I will keep the windshield for 72 hours for your inspection. I plan on having the windshield replaced. This is a very dangerous situation. VR/RC [XXX] INFORMATION

While driving, the brakes gave out when coming to a stop light. No warning system lights immediately illuminated. I had been running errands in town that morning with no issue, including stopping at church a couple minutes before with no issues. Thankfully, no one was in front of me at the stop light and I was able to avoid running the stop light by using the emergency brake pedal. I tired to release the e-brake once stopped while still in "Drive" and the regular breaks couldn't hold the truck in one spot so I put the vehicle in Neutral. When the light turned green, I release the brakes and then got a low brake fluid warning and was able to safely pull into a nearby parking lot and stop using the e-brake pedal. I walked around the vehicle to notice brake fluid in the right-front wheel well, inside the wheel rim and a pool of brake fluid forming on the ground by the tire. I had the vehicle towed to an independent service center who confirmed the brake line failure of the rubber/soft line at the linkage of the hard and rubber/soft lines. They replaced the part and replaced my brake fluid. Anecdotally, the service shop said they had the same repair on an F150 within a week prior. Luckily, I was on a low speed road with little traffic and knew to use the e-brake to safely slow and park the car. Also lucky

I was driving normally to work one morning. I was stopped at a light and made a right turn onto highway. Engine was running fine up to that point, but all of a sudden it started shaking uncontrollably and all power (throttle) was lost. Ford inspected and told me valve seals were bad and that oil had leaked as a result causing metal shavings in multiple cylinders. I come to find out that it is a known issue based on service bulletin posted on NHTSA site explaining to techs how to fix issue IF owners reports it.. My concern is that I was never informed of anything, I had no warning lights display any kind of alerts leading up to this incident, and was just due for oil change. I am now being quoted $19,000 for cylinder head replacements (which is what is listed on service bulletin) or $17,000 for new engine install. Vehicle just stopped in middle of road, between multiple cars.

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at various speeds over a bumpy road surface, the front driver's seat lumbar support was significantly loosened and failed to restrain the contact as needed. Additionally, the lumbar support made abnormal cracking sounds. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the lumbar support frame was replaced, and padding was added 3 times. Additionally, the independent mechanic added a steel plate for additional support; however, the failure persisted. The contact also stated that the independent mechanic had informed him that he had previously ordered the lumbar support frame; however, the part arrived fractured, causing him to make another order. The contact stated that the lumbar support frame welding was significantly thin, which caused the failure to recur. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V475000 (Seats) however, the VIN was not included. The dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact they could not assist because the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.

My 2016 Ford F-150 supercab is leaking transmission fluid. Noticed the gasket is leaking from the transfer case. Took it to the dealership and they said that it can not be repaired and needs to be replaced because it is coroded and it will take a couple of months to get the parts because the special bolts are on back order. The replacement will cost me $3900 and they said i should not be driving it. I can go without a vehicle for 2 months while waiting for parts . Meantime I have to drive it while it's leaking. While driving the truck it suddenly and randomly loses power. Pushing on the gas pedal no longer makes the truck go. You have to coast to a safe spot, brake and turn the truck off, then restart it for it to start working again. The truck has a jolting motion to it when it loses power and until it is shut off. The truck has several indicator lights flashing like a wrench and something about hill assist not functioning. The truck sometimes has trouble starting after it loses power. Safety concerns are if this happens while trying to turn and there is on coming traffic you could get T-boned. If you are unable to pull over on the side of the road to restart the truck, then you risk being stopped in traffic and being hit from behind. This has happened on 3 occasions and happens randomly without warning. It has happened twice in one day. The truck has been to two shops who are unable to reproduce it and unable to find the problem. On-line forums lead me to think it is the electronic throttle body. A previous recall for this was 16B32. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by insurance company or police. The truck has three appointments with 2 different ford dealerships and one independent auto shop coming up for further inspection.

The ford 2.7 liter eco boost engine has a design flaw that leads to the engine oil pan to leak around the seal which creates an environmental concern for leaking oil on the ground and also poses a fire risk as the oil could potentially contact something hot and could flame up. This is a known issue that many 2.7 liter eco boost engine owners have had to deal with and some of them have had to make the costly repair more than once. Ford only has issued a TSB 23-2083 for this issue and will not do a recall unless the NTSB says per their customer service at Ford corporate who handled my case that I had opened up.

I took it to a shop where it was hooked up to the obd2 reader and it showed that it was most likely needing new spark plugs and possibly coils for cylinders 2 and 3 which made sense because there was less than 74,000 miles on the truck. When I got them replaced the same thing was happening but now there were check engine lights. I took it to the dealership for them to work on they said that cylinders 2 and 3 were cracked. With the issues that the 2.7 Eco boost engines have been having a recall or ford should make this right. A 10,000 dollar repair for a known issue is not the right way to conduct business.

My 2016 Ford F150 XLT would stall when stopped at red lights or stop signs. My dealership advised they ran codes and could not find anything wrong. I continued to drive the truck and the problem persisted. I had another location run for codes and found that I had a defective intake manifold where the valves would stick closed and not allow enough air to the engine causing it to shut down. I returned to my dealership and advised them of the codes I learned about. I also conducted research on the internet and found that F150s with a 5.0 engine had this problem. My intake manifold now needs to be replaced. I believe should the truck stall while driving or not start again when at a red light, it could cause a safety issue with possibly being rear-ended and a traffic hazard to myself, my family, or other motorists. This is a defective part that is intregral to the operation of a vehicle.

My vehicle check engine light and wrench light came on suddenly. My transmission got stuck in 5th gear. Upon arriving to the stop light the transmission wouldn’t downshift leading me to start off very slow. The car behind me almost rear ended me. Once I was up to about 50 mph, the transmission downshifted to 2nd gear obviously at high rpm’s and it felt like someone rear ended me. I see this was an issue that had a recall issued on 2011-2013 F150’s. I believe there is another issue or one that wasn’t resolved. There are several complaints online about the part being on backorder for months, which was also confirmed by my dealership once the diagnostic was completed. My vehicle is a 2016 with only 59k miles on it. This $1100 repair should be covered by Ford Motor Company.

Upon entering my truck, I noticed the rear (powered) window seemed to be open, despite leaving it in the closed position. Upon closer inspection, I noticed the glass and trim were not correctly seated and it appeared as though the adhesive that holds the parts had failed (true cause unknown as I didn't observe the occurrence). This is a safety issue because 1) I have a young child who rides in the rear seat of the vehicle, and the glass moves freely since it is off-track. 2) the electric components are still working, and if my spouse (who doesn't drive my truck often) were to forget there was an issue, moving the glass which is not correctly articulating in its track could cause it to break (I am uncertain as to whether or not it is shatter-resistant). 3) we have had a lot of rainy weather, and due to the exposure of electrical components to the weather, could cause a short or electrocution if touched. 4) the glass could be easily pushed inward or aside from outside of the truck leaving it more vulnerable to break-in or theft. This issue is currently available for inspection upon request however, I will be getting it repaired within the next few days as it cannot wait. I have not yet had a dealer confirm the issue, nor had it inspected by any other party. I am aware of at least a few dozen 2015-2020 Ford F150 owners having this problem, it seems to be a known issue among owners of these vehicles. There were no warnings or vehicle generated messages. The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact was informed of NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V652000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages) and the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the repair. Following the repair, the contact stated that the tailgate failed to release as intended per the revised instructions from the manufacturer. The instructions stated that the vehicle needed be in park(P) for the tailgate to be released. The contact stated that the tailgate only released while the vehicle was turned off, whether the vehicle is in park(P), drive(D), or neutral(N). The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who was able to duplicate the failure but was unable to determine the cause for the failure. The dealer surmised that the failure was related to a programming issue. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 82,550.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
