Tires › Tread/Belt
Filed Aug 5, 2023FL

Goodyear tires 275/65R18 used on an F150 are experiencing near tread separation on the passenger rear side and the beginning of tread rips/tears on drivers rear side in similar locations. Manufacture week and year 1819. These tires have gone through periodic rotation as well. Noticed a shimmy while driving and upon inspection saw the tear/ripe at the tread interface with the sidewall. Tires are nearing the end of life and close to being replaced anyway however given the potential defect potential and safety hazard I am reporting. I personally don’t feel this should be occurring even given the near end of life condition and what appears to be the start of dry rot. Pictures provide 3 photos of the torn passenger side and 3 photos of the rear drivers side showing the beginnings of rips on multiple locations.

The vehicle shifts into first gear on the freeway. There is a known problem with the conductor plate or flex plate and makes the outboard shaft speed sensor malfunction and the speedometer turns off often on the freeway. When it does this the truck thinks it has come to a stop and shifts down to first gear. Luckily I didn't drop my transmission on the freeway and I've researched this problem ahead of han accident but I know ford knows about this because every mechanic I've spoken to knows what the problem is when I tell them my 2013 f 150 has the conductor plate issue. Apparently they changed my year truck to a plastic plate....

The 2013 Ford F-150 had an issue with the transmission randomly shifting while driving. Ford issues a Customer Satisfaction Program, 19B05 to attempt to address through reprogramming. It was later followed up by a Safety Recall 19S19 and supplemental 19S07 to expand the recall. It appears the issue was never resolved and later Ford issue another supplement #3 in their customer satisfaction program 19N01 to actually replace a component called the Transmission Molded Leadframe assembly and also extended the coverage. My truck had several instances of random down shifting while driving so upon taking to the dealer it was found to be part of this Customer Satisfaction Program. The part has been on order for about 9 months and no resolution in sight. Ford has said that since this is part of the Customer Satisfaction Program, and not a Recall, that they are not obligated to provide any other assistance. As a daily driver I cannot count on the truck to be safely driven but have little option. I've had numerous instances of random shifting at highway speeds leading to temporary and sudden issues with control of this 6,000lb vehicle. On some occasions after stopping at an intersection and then accelerating into traffic it will not have shifted into 1st so while accelerating into traffic I'm left not able to move quickly with other drivers taking evasive action to avoid hitting me. I don't know how to elevate this as a priority with Ford to secure parts and get these trucks fixed in a

Truck would, from a stop, not shift into gear and it would also without warning from a stop not go into gear. If placed into park and then in gear it work. Last incident, driving on interstate felt like transmission disengaged and orange wrench appeared on my screen. Took foot off of accelerator and all my gauges disappeared. No speed, fuel level etc. drove into the next town, pulled into parking lot, shut off engine, restarted engine and all gauges came back up. On hands free phone call with my dealership service manager as soon as it happened and kept them on phone until I restarted engine and started driving. No more incidents and made it home. Vehicle has been repaired, but I never received a notification regarding this issue. and it was not an inexpensive repair.

Ford has a known problem with the timing chain that results in needed repairs that cost in excess of $4000. The truck has 85000 miles and has been well maintained. I see that Ford had a recall on Ecoboost V6 engines. However, no recall was made on the V8 5 Liter engine even thoough Ford is well aware of the problem. I believe that Ford is hiding/falsifying information to avoid fixing the problem. I was informed that this issue is not frequent, but does happen in 20 to 25 percent of their vehicles. This is not a warranty issue. This is an issue of Ford not complying with regulations to identify and provide recalls for defective equipment.

So recently my 2013 ford f150 steering wheel starting acting up on me, by acting up it my steering wheel started locking up on me and jerking to the left I was on my way to the movie theater with my 2 daughters in the back seat luckily nothing happen but it was a scary situation to be in having your steering wheel locked up on you in the middle of traffic. Later that day I had my truck towed to a Tuffys mechanic shop where I was later told that ford had a recall on what ever was happening to my steering wheel, so I made an appointment for the next day thinking my problem was going to be resolved but it didn’t. So it all happens to be that the recall was made for a couple 2013 ford models but not f-150 but they did cover the 2014 ford f-150 model which was kinda weird to me because I’m sure their is not a big difference when it comes to a 2013 and 2014 ford f-150.

Complaint: Speedometer is not working, loss of function of speedometer while driving and Downshifting of the gear. The instrumental cluster showed a maintenance warning while driving in which will cause the speedometer to stop working. When trying to drive the vehicle on a stop position, there is a delay on the acceleration. Vehicle feels like it's on 2nd or 3rd gear. This may lead to loss of control on vehicle. I brought my vehicle to Ford service, I had them do a diagnose on my vehicle. The only issue they're able to find is the cooling system leak and rotor/brake pad replacement in which I ended up costing $3700. Knowing this would resolve the main issue. They had my truck for a month and after 24 hours of receiving my vehicle the main issue showed up and can't use it again due to safety issue. I believe the issue of my vehicle is part of 2013 Ford F-150 recall, but my vehicle has not received a recall. 2013 ford f-150 3.5 liter V6. The speedometer stops working while driving at highway speeds and the transmission downshifts suddenly into low gear. I dont think the safety issue needs to be explained in great detail. One minute i am traveling at 60 miles an hour and the next second the rear wheels are sliding as the truck downshifts into 1st gear and slows to 10 miles an hour. This issue was caused by a defective transmission lead frame output shaft sensor. The check engine lights and wrench icon appear and codes P720 and P722 are on computer. This was verified by the service dept. at Berglund ford of Bedford Virginia. There was a safety recall on affected vehicles "Safety Recall 19S07", but mine was not covered so they refused to fix my truck.

What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
