The under carriage splash guard gets wet keeps tearing off. It is made of a felt material and it is a widely known problem. I have replaced 1 already and the 2nd has now failed. The is a safety issue.

On Monday, December 16, 2024 I brought my vehicle in for diagnostic services due to a 'metal on metal' noise causing a vibration in the gas pedal, and loss of power when vehicle reached 2000 rpms. This vehicle is hazardous to drive and leaves the vehicle behind me without any indication that my vehicle is experiencing a loss of power and is slowing down abruptly. The vehicle began hard shifting at approximately 30-40k miles, and the dealership stated they were unable to duplicate the problem and did not document my complaint during my inquiry at oil changes. Although there is a technical service bulletin to address this concern, as an individual with Master of Science in Engineering Management educated in Safety, and currently serving as a volunteer of the Federal Aviation Administration Safety Team, I am requesting a thorough investigation of the vehicle's performance in this current condition as well as any other previous vehicle crashes that may have occurred as a result of this issue.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle jerked and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a failed catalyst converter. The contact was informed that the catalyst converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure had occurred on three separate occasions and the catalyst converter was replaced by the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not assist. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline and report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
Frequently when driving my 2020 Ford Expedition max the transmission slips out of gear causing it to go into neutral and put me in a position when i am unable to accelerate my vehicle. This happens mostly on the freeway when we are driving 65 MPH and greatly endangers the safety of my family. Reading several on-line forums indicates this is a common problem and should be fixed via a recall. Also, my dashboard viewing screen often turns black for no reason when using or simply does not turn on.
The transmission in the car caused a complete loss of power. The car stopped in the middle of the street and was almost rear-ended. Our infant son was in the car at the time. We were very worried about our safety. The "see manual" warning light flashed on the screen. We had to place the car into neutral and was able to finally make it to a safe location.
While driving in the city or on the highway when accelerating, the car will lose power almost like it shifted to neutral - pressing the gas does not do anything then all of a sudden the expedition will rapidly catch gear causing the car to jerk all of the passengers. It is very unsafe and we have almost been rear ended due to this. It is extremely unsafe and scary. I notice it happening frequently on the highway if you accelerate to enter the highway or to pass another vehicle but have also noticed it in the city at lower speeds. Almost every time in 4th gear and 7-8th gear on the ten speed automatic 2020 ford expedition. I took it to ford where they said there were no recalls. When this happens a lot of pop ups on the dash board pop up and then quickly go away. Service transmission. Service powertrain. Loss in power. Just to name a few.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while driving at 50 MPH, the vehicle suddenly down shifted on its owns rapidly reducing vehicle speeds. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 74,000.
Transmission jerky and randomly kicks out of gear on higher speed creates dangerous situations on highway.Previously reported problem!Ford failed to repair despite multiple requests!Putting my family in danger!
The transmission slipped out upon acceleration. I was trying to move out of the way of emergency vehicles when the transmission lost all gear numbers and "Service Transmission" popped up on the screen. I depressed the accelerator and the transmission went to gear 1 and then went back to the appropriate gear number 5. This has been happening now for over 2 years off and on. I tried to have the dealer diagnosis it before 60,000 and they couldn't find anything wrong. I have talked to multiple people who have expeditions as well and they are experiencing the same issue.
We have experienced the problems of bad shifting, error codes, sudden deceleration, lack of acceleration and the vehicle going into "limp mode" over the past three years. These events have been extremely dangerous as they have occurred at highway speed multiple times and have occurred while towing a boat. We had taken it into the dealer in in September of 2022 and the dealer claimed they could not find a problem. It should be noted that the vehicle was under warranty at the time. We continued to experience the problems and took it to a different Ford dealer last week and they found the problem and stated the vehicle was subject to a TSB about the transmission and said the transmission must be replaced. And it was not covered by warranty or recall. I have researched the issue and there are hundreds of complaints about Ford's 10 speed transmission having problems. This is a dangerous problem and Ford is aware of it and will not take responsibility.
Every time I put seatbelt on in passenger side it locks up and it stays in that position until I take it off. I can pull on it and it will not move at all I will unusually have to take it off and put on again just for the same thing to happen.this happens with front seats belts not sure if back ones do the same I just know I can not put on back seat belt it’s seems they are made for kids only.
Vehicle does not shift properly usually during gears 3-7 and it skips and jerks really bad and it loses power. It happened as I was entering expressway and vehicle lost power and I almost got hit by a tractor trailer from behind.
The rear backup camera intermittently displays a blank or distorted image. I noticed online that there was a recall (20V575000) as follows. However, my Ford dealership says they are not honoring it for my vehicle. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2020 Ford F-150, F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, Explorer, Mustang, Transit, Expedition, Escape, Ranger and Edge, and Lincoln Nautilus and Corsair vehicles. Due to a poor electrical connection, the rearview camera may intermittently display a blank or distorted image. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."
Rear back up camera does not have guide lines. Camera works, but does not have the guide lines that move when you back up. I bought the vehicle used. I checked other 2020 expeditions and they have the guide lines on the display.
Vehicle is at 53k miles and the blower motor already has failed. No cool air to the entire rear portion and intermittently no airflow to the front.
I have experienced on multiple occasions when driving that the transmission doesn’t know what gear to go to when shifting. If I accelerate and have to let off the gas because traffic is slowing down and they start going again the transmission doesn’t know what to do and no matter how far you push the pedal the engine doesn’t do nothing. The transmission doesn’t kick in and you have to go to the side praying you don’t get hit before it’ll go into gear. This has happened while merging on the interstate and regular traffic and I took it to Ford and they told me it was normal. To me this does not seem normal imposes a severe safety risk.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle quickly resumed normal operation; however, the failure would soon return after the initial failure. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that there were no recalls on the VIN. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V197000 (Power Train); which was linked to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that there were no recalls on the VIN. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The vehicle was not repaired and remained with the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.
10 Speed Transmission has been rebuilt but did not solve problem. Ford refuses to issue a recall even though they have had many class action law suits and other complaints about this transmission. The issue is: Jerking, Harsh shifting, Lunging, Clunking, Hesitation, and Sudden loss of power. This happens every time it is driven from about a month after it was rebuilt to today. It has never stopped.
Nothing noted on dashboard. Daily has a hard shift from park to drive. Also has a hard shift occasionally when dropping down a gear after pressing the gas to accelerate.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the electrical system in the vehicle unexpectedly shutdown. The vehicle was driven to several dealers where it was diagnosed and determined that the gate module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 49,000.
The ten speed transmission that is standard on Ford vehicles of this caliber, has begun to skip gears. There appears to be a delay in switching from fifth gear to seventh gear. The exact same problem occurred on our last 2018 expedition max to the point the transmission was nearly inoperable. This ultimately led to a replacement of the transmission costing $6000. The vehicle became undrivable at that time due to potential hazard of driving and warnings from our mechanic. Our current vehicle has not yet been evaluated by Ford mechanics. The same symptomatic changes are occurring on this car as did the last. The car will go to the mechanics in short order. There is concern that there is a faulty transmission being manufactured due to the same problem occurring in the same make, and model of vehicle only two years apart.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving 70-75 MPH, the transmission was shifting hard and unintendedly shifted to various gears continuously. The power train warning light was illuminated. The message "Power Train - Engine Failure - See Owner’s Manual" was displayed. Additionally, there was an abnormally loud sound coming from the transmission assembly. The message "Reduced Engine Power“ was displayed, and the vehicle failed to respond upon depressing the accelerator pedal. The temperature gauge displayed 285 degrees. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road and allowed the vehicle to cool down. The contact was able to continue driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the transmission yoke was replaced; however, the failure recurred several times while driving. The vehicle was taken to Red McCombs Ford (8333 I-10, San Antonio, TX 78230) and to Griffith Ford Seguin (1880 I-10, Seguin, TX 78155); where the transmission was replaced and rebuilt several times; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated while driving 75 MPH, the transmission was shifting hard and was continuously shifting from high gear to low gear. The check engine warning light and several unknown warning lights were illuminated. Another driver honked and drew the contact's attention. The contact noticed a trail of white smoke and that there was smoke coming from the engine bay. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road and allowed the v
Transmission jerks. Also transmission randomly drops out of gear at 60-65 m/h which make the vehicle stall.Putting passengers dangerous situations on highway.Very dangerous.Car been in shop twice but no adequate repairs been made.Requested transmission exchange which would take care of problem.Request been denied.Putting my wife and two of my children in danger. This car has 10R80 transmission which notoriously has bad reputation.Mechanic claims could not create issue but however does see some problem with the transmission.
I was driving 70mph when suddenly a red alert on the dashboard said coolant alert 402 degrees the car was not heating up at all before that. I pulled to the side of the road right away. Smoke started coming out trunk ran and in less than 2 minutes the car was on fire.
Transmission failure with gears 2-3-4-5-7. Hard jerking and shifting when attempting to accelerate. Transmission slips while driving especially at stop lights which can cause an accident or rear end accident. Putting other drivers at risk by not being able to fully control acceleration of vehicle coming on or off highway ramps. Ford dealership and dealership of purchase has been made aware of issues with vehicle. Gear shift failure as well has service wrench appears when troubles start and continue. Issues 1st appeared in April of 2024.
I read that there is a recall on 2021/2022 Fords with Eco Boost but not the 2020. I have had my vehicle into the dealership multiple times due to misfires and loss of all power which has almost caused multiple accidents on the interstate. I accelerate to get into the left lane and lose all power and do not get power back until my vehicle decelerates down to around 40 mph/or a lower gear, causing semi’s and other vehicles to have to slam on their brakes so that they do no run into the back of me. It idles very roughly and overall has been the worst vehicle mechanically that I have ever owned. The dealerships always say they cannot find anything wrong with it or cannot reproduce it but it happens on a daily basis and keeps getting worse. I have had the transmission updated, changed the cool packs, and changed the plugs which has not helped at all. I want to know why the 2020 Expedition is not included in this recall? This is the most expensive vehicle I have ever purchased and I would expect it to run smoothly with no issues and I am very disappointed. Not only disappointed in the vehicle, but in Ford itself for not acknowledging this issue. I have read many complaints from other customers experiencing the same issues and unable to find a fix for it. I would like some answers and for Ford to make things right with my Expedition. I am not able to trade it in or sell it due to having all the issues that it has and frankly I’m not sure I trust Ford anymore or if I’ll ever buy a Fo
My park aid sensor fault comes on without cause and a picture of a car blocks the view to the screen that displays directions from google maps. It comes on suddenly and sporadically and has almost caused an accident several times as I don't know where I am going when this happens. I took my car to the dealership to get this fixed. The dealership charged me $213.79 for the diagnosis and stated that this happens to alert me to a problem related to when a vehicle is approaching on the left or right and the audio component does not work. In other words, when a vehicle is approaching, the lights on the mirrors flash on but the noise does not present. They then told me that to stop the dangerous flashing of the car blocking my view of the map, that I would be charged almost $800 to repair. I told them I couldn't afford it and asked if they could just stop the random car display from happening and covering my map. To me, this is much more dangerous than the main quality defect preventing the sounds. I was told that they were not allowed to disable this malfunction and that it was not considered a quality defect or recall issue. I am currently driving in an unsafe vehicle due to a design flaw in a vehicle that is not yet 4 years old that I can't afford to fix myself. The fields below don't allow me to enter information. I have not been in an accident yet due to this. It happens at various speeds. My vehicle has about 52000 miles on it.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle hesitated and jolted while shifting gear. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure occurred at various speeds while shifting gear. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the vehicle was safe to drive. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 59,158.
This has happened many times throughout my ownership of the vehicle. At times, when trying to accelerate into traffic, changing lanes, etc. The vehicle make a loud clunking noise when it tries to downshift. The transmission acts as if it has no idea what gear to go into. A "system fault" with a wrench appears on the center display along with an audible alarm. The vehicle either loses power altogether or it has downshifted into an extremely low gear which brings the rpms near redline. On several occasions this has put my family in dangerous situations. We came close to getting in a collision more than once. It has frightened my daughter who has special needs. Upon bringing it to ford while the warranty was still in place, they claim they could not replicate the problem. On the way back home from the dealer, it happened again. We made ANOTHER appointment for service, they reflashed the transmission strategy and said it's fixed. It was ok for maybe a few weeks, but the problem continues. Now the warranty is up, and we are still stuck with the same issue which is becoming more and more frequent. Ford will not repair it without charging, yet this issue existed while the warranty was still in place. It's a known defect that presented itself while the warranty was still in place. It was never repaired, Ford only applied a band-aid to get past the powertrain warranty.
Driving down a highway the right side front trim that extends from the top of the windshield to the front of the luggage rack ripped off and it took a piece of the luggage rack off with it. It caused the vehicle behind me to swerve to avoid hitting it and nearly caused an accident. My local Ford Dealership told me that there is an active recall # 24S02 currently exists for similar reasons but does not currently cover my 2020 vehicle.
Driving at non-highway speeds on roads with hills, the vehicle aggressively downshifts occasionally. It isn't all the time, and it is difficult to duplicate, but it feels rough. I believe a TSB has been issued for this issue. It is well documented and should be recalled, as the known issue was repaired in the 2024 model.
Transmission started shifting hard (into and out of park to drive) and (between 3-4 and 7-8 gears). I brought my concerns to the dealership at the end of 2023 and asked if it could be reprogrammed. The advisor stated that the transmission was going bad and to just keep driving it until it failed because they are seeing a lot of failures. In July 2024 we pulled onto the highway when we attempted accelerate the engine revved to redline and the vehicle stopped accelerating. When the gas pedal was lifted the transmission started grinding back into gear. We had to slowly push the gas pedal down to get it home at 30mph. Every time it downshifted it would stop accelerating. Ford did a complete transmission replacement. I also have a 2019 F150 [XXX] ) with 79000 miles on it and it is now showing the same signs of failure with shifting. The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving at various speeds and attempting to steer the vehicle, the steering wheel would oversteer the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic where it was diagnosed that the power steering was overcompensating while steering the vehicle. The mechanic stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24E055000 (Steering). The mechanic contacted the dealer and confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000.
From early on, the vehicle had a hard shift from 7 to 8. This was discussed with the dealership and they claimed they couldn’t recreate it. This has been the life of the vehicle. About 6 months ago it began to hard shift in other gears. 3 to 4 being the most common. Then 2 months ago it would slow down, you could hear grinding, then jerk violently forward (finally getting into gear). When we called the dealership to ask they said they would have to look at it. But it was not consistent enough. The vehicle eventually began to slip from gear and jerk forward into gear, everyday. Almost causing me to be rear ended multiple times. Loosing speed at anytime and causing random speeds with the inability to regain speed until the car “found” a gear. I would be driving 60 mph and it would find a lower gear and jerk into gear. It needs a whole new transmission. FORD is aware of this issue with the 10R80 transmission. 3.5 eco boost. My car is un driveable now. It fails to find a gear. A quick Google search will showcase exact stories just like mine with people saying the exact same thing. Harsh shifting. Jerking. Grinding. Loosing speed while driving. FORD didn’t have a fix for anyone. And now new transmissions are the only fix. Please inspect.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated the windshield wipers were intermittently inoperable. Additionally, the contact stated that while attempting to drive from a complete stop at night, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to turn off and was drivable after 15 minutes. The vehicle was driven to a parking spot. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the windshield washer line located on the front passenger's side and on the rear windshield had exploded due to washer fluid accumulation. The dealer informed the contact that the failure caused the windshield washer fluid and freon to leak into the dashboard module and onto the front passenger's side floorboard. The dealer repaired the R and R BCM, reprogrammed the RCM communication circuit and the BCM, and installed the Alarm-KE and the R and R auxiliary evaporator cord. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 68,305.
The 2020 Ford expedition has transmission issues. It will slip gears in the middle of driving, it will stall when trying to change gears from park to reverse to drive. When accelerating the vehicle will rev up in RPMs and drastically drop speed I’ve had to almost come to a complete stop on the interstate driving 70+ miles an hour. There were no lights or warnings that appeared on the dash. We took it to a mechanic to have it inspected and we were told that we need to replace the entire transmission. We contacted the Ford dealer in which we purchased it from and they are not willing to address the issue. I am a mother of four children, and I’m regularly driving in the vehicle to take them to and from school and various activities. I am very concerned about the safety of myself as well as my children. Should we be driving and the transmission completely shut down. Since having the vehicle looked at by a mechanic, the warning signs have now turned on and appear every time I start the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the driver's side seat belt became inoperable. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the seat belt would lock but would not retract until the vehicle was turned off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the seat belt retractor tensioner had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHSTA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
Transmission issue hard shifting slipping out of gears
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that the transmission was shifting hard. The contact stated that while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle jerked and shifted hard on several occasions. The contact stated that the Pre-Collision Assist warning light was flashing. There was an abnormally loud sound detected. The contact stated that the failure was related to TSB: 23-2123. The contact called the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact called another local dealer, Max Ford of Harrisonville (2502 Cantrell Rd., Harrisonville, MO 64701); but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
On multiple occasions, our car has lurched out of gear going at fast speeds on the highway. It slips out of gear and the car shakes and then it lunges back into gear. On a few occasions, the gas pedal was also inoperable while the car was "finding the right gear". This has been extremely scary for my family when this has happened. The first time we took it to the dealership and they reprogrammed the transmission. Then, it happened again about 6 weeks after the fix, and this time the transmission valve had to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was restarted; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000.
The vehicle was in park, with the engine running. The tailgate was open as I was loading a stroller into the back and my infant into a back passenger seat car seat. The driver's door was open, back drivers side door open, and tailgate open. The front passenger's seat belt pretensioner deployed and it sounded as though something hit the vehicle. I walked around the car to inspect for damage and even looked on top of the vehicle for damage. No damage occurred as nothing hit the vehicle. My wife got into the car in the front passenger seat and could not move the seat belt. I walked around and verified that it could not be moved as it was in the rest position with the pre-tensioner deployed. Issue: Non-event with front passenger seat belt pre-tensioner deployment Available to be inspected: Yes Safety at risk: My wife just had a c-section and if deployed with her in it, would have been much worse. Additionally, cannot use the seat now that seat belt is inoperable. Issue been reproduced: No. The pre-tensioner goes off with explosive charge making reproduction impossible. Warning lamps present: No.
Multiple times our car has experienced issues of transmission stalling while at highway speeds, the most recent Wednesday August 7th upon acceleration on highway car lost power and ability to accelerate, a ticking noise was noticeable, very brief shifting alert came across dash and disappeared quickly, no alert was sent to my phone application. The engine did not completely die, but briefly had no power, after letting off of the gas momentarily and re trying the car shifted hard and began to accelerate again. We did take our car to the Ford garage in April of 2024 with these very complaints, we were told no such issues were found with our transmission and ended up having to pay a fee despite our car being under warranty.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle briefly jerked and hesitated, prompting thee contact to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway to turn off the vehicle. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The service engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.
Transmission went out due to faulty chip/ A/C went out due to faulty compressor
I was in a head on collision and my airbags did not deploy but my glove box separated from my dash by about 2 inches looking as if they tried to deploy
Lost control of vehicle…RPMs almost red lined..transmission shifting gears incorrectly
Vehicle 10 speed transmission issues. 3x in ford dealer for diagnostics and repairs. 3rd time they did a transmission rebuild. Vehicle was apparently deemed fixed and safe Since then I have almost had 2 head on collisions with 4kids and 3 adults in the vehicle at a speed of 60mph. I went to pass on a single lane road & as I pulled out and put my foot down on the gas the transmission clunked loud, went into neutral and just revved very high rpms. I had to pull back in to my lane in which the car behind me had moved up and there was no space. If it wasn’t a head on collision I could have been rear ended. I also slowed from 70mph to turn a corner and as I started the turn the transmission could find its gear and launched forward.
The chrome trim around the center console where cup holders, gearbox are located has peeled. When driving and going to pickup something off the console, the chrome that is peeling is very sharp and has cut myself and my husband. This is a known issue with people with the same vehicle. It’s distracting while driving as you get a shock and do not expect that which can cause a motor vehicle accident. It also poses a danger for people that have a fear of the sight of blood while driving too.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH and attempting to accelerate, the RPMs quickly increased, but the vehicle briefly lost motive power before lunging into gear and gaining speed. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the torque converter, resulting in damages to the transmission. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 61,000.
