Engine malfunction due to engine coolant leaking in to #2 cylinder. Check engine warning light came on intermittently. Car didn’t pass New York State Emissions test. Car can’t be re-registered in NYS without passing Emissions test. Had car towed to Ford Service Center for diagnosis. Ford diagnosis - car engine and assembly needs to be replaced with re-designed long block engine for an estimated repair cost of $6637 plus tax. Ford is not covering engine defect that resulted in engine coolant leaking into #2 cylinder causing misfire and engine check warning light to come on. Due to this design fault, Ford should issue a recall on our 2016 Ford Edge as the car is unsafe to drive. Ford should cover the cost of the engine repair, parts and labor, due to this design fault.

My parking brake, ABS, and Traction Control (ESC) warning lights all illuminate even when not engaged (Parking Brake states engaged even while driving.) Traction Control (ESC) on/off indicators illuminate opposite of engagement/unengagement (no correlation between.) Identical symptoms from NHTSA recall #16V733000. My car was manufactured right during that timeframe when my make/model/year were deemed loaded with improper ABS/ESC computer software. I brought it into Ford repeatedly and it was incorrectly diagnosed as a faulty E-Brake switch, only to give me my vehicle back and E-Brake could not be unengaged while they returned me the keys in the lot. They looked at it again and stated my ABS Module was broken causing my parking brake actuators to now be faulty resulting in my rear rotors to be worn down to unsafe driving levels. The best reason they could give me for a faulty ABS Module was "lightning strike." I called Ford Customer Care and asked if my car was overlooked in this recall before sold to me and they originally said it was (told me it was manufactured in Ontario,Canada) but then called back to tell me it wasn't one of the vehicles affected. I am deafly afraid that my braking system will fail as I am driving.

The contact was able to coast to the nearest mechanic who diagnosed that the front brake line had fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact then stated that while there daughter was driving she experienced the same failure. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic a second time who diagnosed that the rear passenger brake line had fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and informed the contact that in order to be included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V469000 (Service Brakes, Service Brakes, Hydraulic) they had to report to NHTSA and that there were no recalls regarding the rear brakes. The approximate failure mileage was 97,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated while his wife was driving 50 mph, she heard an abnormal noise. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the transmission shift bushing to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but while leaving the dealer, the contact continued to experience the failure. The contact drove back to the dealer and made them aware of the failure again. Driving home after dropping my kids off to school slowing down for a red light, all of a sudden the brake pedal goes limp, car barely responds afterwards... I start pumping the pedal like crazy and yanking the E brake lever and barely stop before hitting someone... Car has been in the dealership (North Central Ford in Richardson, TX) 2 or 3 times since 2020; one for a transmission bushing recall I believe, and brake line was NEVER mentioned. They showed each instance for service in their system to me on their monitor, and showed that it never appeared to the service techs for them to inform me of the recall. They said they didn't know why it wouldn't show up. Ford really dropped the ball here, the only thing that saved me was quick thinking on the e-brake.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the vehicle was shaking and was unable to accelerate properly. The contact stated that after waiting for the shaking to cease, the vehicle drove as needed. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure was determined to be a faulty head gasket that was leaking coolant. The dealer stated that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer confirmed the report from the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 49,000.
Check engine light turned on after the whole car rumbled and seemed to struggle to start. Took car into dealership to get code checked out and it was a misfire. We made the next available appointment at the dealership which was over a month later, but were told to not bring in the car again unless another misfire happened before the appointment. More misfires started occuring and more frequently about 2 weeks later, since the dealership had no availability, I brought the car into my own mechanic who told us it was a coolant leak into cylinders 2 and 4 causing the misfires, it was most likely a head gasket issue. Finally brought it to the dealer appointment who went radio silent unless we called for almost a week. They intially stated that Ford would cover the costs since its a known issue with the engine in this model and year, but they didn't initially take a photo when they reproduced the coolant leak and had trouble reproducing it again. They eventually reproduced the coolant leak but back tracked that Ford would cover the costs of the known issue, since it was past the 5 year warranty. The codes were P0302, P0304, P0316, which were misfire in cylinder 2, misfire in cylinder 4 and random misfire. The cause is a known head gasket problem with the engine, and that Ford did not recommend a head gasket replacement but a brand new engine due to known issues with the 2.0L 4 cylinder engine. Our car has under 50,000 miles on it, however it is past the 5 year warranty period as st
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the dealer on separate occasions to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that coolant was leaking in the engine block to cylinder #3 and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
Misfire in cynlinder 2 due to coolant leak and crack in engine. Resulting in new engine over 9000$ dollars and ford ignoring issue despite thousands of complaints and similar defects with this model.
Check engine light came on. Started to misfire when ignition was turned on. Some misfiring when driving. A couple days later, white smoke started coming out of the exhaust. Took car to mechanic who told me I had a crack in the engine block and coolant was leaking into the cylinder. The engine had to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle after refueling, the vehicle was making abnormal gurgling sounds. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 60 MPH, she heard abnormally loud sounds coming from the rear driver's side of the vehicle, where the fuel tank was located. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact veered to the side of the road and inspected the vehicle. The contact pushed the gas tank cap and the sounds stopped. The contact was able to continue driving; however, the check engine warning light illuminated while driving the next day. The contact was able to drive to her residence. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the purge valve and Evaporative Emission Control (EVAP) system needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that it was a known failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 73,000.
I bought a new 2016 Ford Edge and have it serviced regularly at the dealer. My service record is exemplary and it is documented. My car has 94K miles. I have had work done by the dealer recently (new tires, new axle) and there was no advisement of an engine issue, absolutely nothing was said. About 7 days ago I got a warning light out of the blue, and took it in immediately. I was told it was a "catastrophic engine failure" due to coolant leaking into the engine because the coolant pump failed. I was told "it just happens." As I researched this on the web I discovered that there are thousands (possibly tens of thousands, the amount on the web is overwhelming) of people with the same catastrophe and outcomes that were all very similar: engine replacements cost 10K and can take months -- one fellow has been without his car for seven months. That is not an option for me. Frankly I am shocked at The Ford Motor Company and I mean that. What are they thinking???There is a Ford truck engine in that car and it should not be failing at 94K, especially after my record of service and especially after this problem has been known for years. I'm not kidding -- this car is 5 years old and looks 5 months old. I need resolution and I need it quickly and I am not encouraged by the reports I see. My issue is not with my dealer, it is with Ford dragging their heels on a solution. I am at my wit's end.

Additionally, the contact stated that she noticed a light grey smoke coming from the exhaust pipe but faded. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuel rail pressure was too low and there was an internal leak from the engine and the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that a diagnostic test could not be performed due to no warning lights being illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed to call the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 115,098.
There is a known problem with coolant leaking into the cylinder damaging the gasket. The only fix is to replace the entire engine block at a cost (in my case) of $8361. This seems unreasonable of a 6 year old car with 64,000 miles on it. This is a known problem to Ford as evidenced by the necessity of Techical Service Bulletin 19-2208 issued by Ford in June 2019. Fortunately, My engine light came on alerting me to the problem. That apparently doesn’t always happen meaning the engine could have stopped working while I was driving. Ford dealers are still selling these vehicles used on their lots with no need to disclose this problem because no recall has been ordered. Hoping that this can be rectified to help out a significant number of drivers who’ve had to fix their vehicles at a substantial cost and to force Ford to stop selling them used without repair
On May 13, 2022, my Ford Edge was taken to the Local Ford Dealer for a spoiled coil. At 52,000 miles, the coolant had leaked into the cylinders and caused the engine block to crack. This resulted in me needing a whole new engine. Thankfully, I had taken out an extended warranty on my vehicle or it would have cost me over $7500. I was told by the dealership that this is a known problem with these Ecoboost engines. I have always taken excellent care of my ford edge and I cannot believe Ford has not been made to recall these engines. Most people don't have an extended warranty and they should not have to pay thousands of dollars for an obvious faulty engine.
My lugs nuts have expanded on my vehicle and I cannot get my wheels off. What happens if while unable to change a flat tire on the highway due to the lug nuts stuck on the the car I get hit and killed? Ford needs to accept the responsibility on this safety defect and replace the lug nuts at no charge. This has also created an issue with me being able to have my brakes checked during my oil changes.
Swollen lug nuts. Unable to use supplied lug wrench on lug nuts after having a flat tire on roadway. Unable to safely remove flat while on side of road. Dealer diagnosed problem as swollen lug nuts on wheel. No warning
I have had my back windshield implode twice now on my Ford Edge in the last 8 months. Nothing hits the window. First time I was backing out of the driveway and had my back windshield wiper on and it just imploded. Had to go thru the hassle of getting the spoiler removed and the glass company out to fix it. Fine for 8 months until last night. Came home from errands, unloaded car, closed the hatch. Came back out about an hour later and the windshield was imploded again. There is something wrong for this to happen twice in 8 months. I found a recall for the back wiper motor but the recall is for Canada only. There should be a recall in the US also. I dont have the funds to keep replacing the windshield every 8 months. Especially when it isnt a simple fix with the glass company coming out to fix it. It has to be taken to a dealership first to get the spoiler removed then the glass company will fix it. Please get this fixed.
The flex plate is cracked on my Ford Edge. The crack could have caused it to break completely and I would have lost control of the vehicle. The problem has been confirmed by an independent service center. There was no warning lights or messages displayed; just a loud knocking noise coming from the engine.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start properly for a few seconds. The contact stated that there was an abnormal fuel odor inside the cabin of the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated she continued to experience the failure until August 10, 2022, when the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who associated the failure with TSB: 14-0180 & 19-2346. The contact called the local dealer and left a voicemail. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 74,350.
Engine blown due to coolant leaking inside the engine.
At first inspection I was told it was a blown head gasket due to coolant leaking in motor. When taken apart the big block is cracked. Is going to be a entire motor replacement. Car only has 91,447 and has had regular services.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle there was an abnormal amount of white smoke coming from the exhaust tip. Car has over 89000 miles and maintained regularly. I am the only owner and kept in garage. Check engine light came on which had a code of P0302, P0303, P0304. Mechanic confirmed coolant has leaked into cylinder and has caused crack with his borescope. Only fix is an entire engine replacement. I have no alternative but to get replacement car. This has cost me thousands in unplanned expenses to purchase a replacement before I am ready and the lost value on my vehicle due to this issue. This has apparently been known for years and no communications from Ford on this was ever received. I find this unacceptable for a company to allow this defect to go ignored.
Damaged lug nuts. Dealer told me they had to be replaced. Front are like new. Back wheel lug nuts have swelled and are starting to rust. Dealer cannot rotate my tires. My last Edge did not have this problem and it was older.
Car was driving fine on 29th. Woke up on 7/30/22 and went out to get breakfast. As soon as I started the car this came up on the screen: HILL START ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE, ADAPTIVE STEERING FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED, STEERING ASSIST FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED, SERVICE ADVANCETRAC. I tried to drive away but cannot move my steering wheel at all.

I noticed my coolant level was roughly an inch below the minimum line on 6/25/22. I filled my coolant to the max line. My check engine light appeared 6/28/22 for cylinder 2 misfire. I replaced all 4 spark plugs and the coil for #2, and the error message was still reading after the parts were swapped, while the vehicle was off. A few days later I noticed my coolant was again an inch below the minimum line, so I refilled my coolant (refilled roughly 5 times until today, 7/21/22). It always dropped and held to an inch below the minimum line. My check engine light reappeared on 7/12/22 so I took vehicle for diagnostics 7/21/22 at Inver Grove Ford, MN 55087. Tech confirmed vehicle is still misfiring for cylinder #2 so they removed the coil and smelled coolant entering the combustion area, leading them to insert a camera and saw coolant in #2 and #3. They recommended a total new engine (assuming one with a long block to avoid this issue again in the future), for $9,150.00. My vehicle is 6 years old with less than 100k in miles. The dealership informed me this is an issue Ford is aware of, they have put out a Technical Service Bulletin (19-2139) but are unwilling to fix this issue for customers. The tech informed they have since redesigned the engine so this fault is less likely in newer models. I was unaware of this common issue until my check engine light came on and brought it to a dealership. This poses a great danger as with low levels of coolant “localized overheating of the e

#2 cylinder went bad, car doesn’t want to start and when it does start it shakes until black smoke is finally gone from exhaust and it begins to idle correctly. Dealership says full engine replacement on a 2016 Edge with eco boost with only 134,000 miles on it!!
The electronic emergency/parking brake has failed/malfunctioned. After searching online, I discovered that other people have the same issue. As I recall, at least one of the posters said that a Ford technician told them that the wiring harness was made too short and the wires rub on the frame and fray causing an electrical short which renders the emergency brake useless. This appears to be a manufacturer's defect, in my opinion.

Found sun roof cracked. No impact noted Just opened sliding visor and saw cracked glass.
2016 Ford Edge had engine light come on. Ford dealer found coolant in engine and I was told by Ford dealer it was a misfire in engine cylinder 4 and that I would need a new engine and it would be a $7300-$7500 repair. Later, I found class action lawsuit regarding this issue. Asked Ford for financial help and they denied my request. I haven't decided if I will fix this issue at this time.

In 2018 I bought my 2016 Ford Edge which had 60,000 miles on it. I bought the extended warranty plan. I drove it for approximately 30 days and I started having issues with it losing coolant and smoking. I took it back to the dealership and was told it needed a new motor, so they put a new motor in it. Well, I just notice recently that the check engine light comes on (misfire in #2 cylinder ). it was smoking and using coolant. this was the same thing it did in 2018 when they replaced it then. So I took it back to the same place that replaced the motor in 2018 and I just found out on 6/23/2022 that my 2016 Ford Edge needs an engine. Coolant is leaking into #2Cylinder. My car is out of the extended warranty. I need help something is not right with theses motors. The estimate to replace it is $5000 - $6000. There needs to be a recall on this issue.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
