Defect. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: FIFTH WHEEL TRAVEL TRAILERS. THESE TRAILERS CAN EXPERIENCE EXCESSIVE FLEXING IN THE UPPER CHASSIS WHICH CAN LEAD TO FAILURE IN THE AREA OF THE PIN BOX.
Risk. THIS CONDITION CAN LEAD TO LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy. DEALERS WILL REINFORCE OR REPLACE THE PIN BOX AND ITS SUPPORT STRUCTURE.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE KINGPIN BOX IN THE FIFTH WHEEL FRACTURED AND DETACHED FROM THE TRAILER. THERE IS AN NHTSA RECALL, # 99V294000, REGARDING THE TRAILER HITCHES: FIFTH WHEEL ASSEMBLY. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.
