“I took my vehicle into the dealership. Almost three weeks ago for a recall on the front end, a steering component. However, they told us that the parts were back ordered several days after the vehicle had been there for three weeks. And then all of a sudden, they call and a week and a 1 after that. And send a vehicle is done. I picked up the vehicle yesterday and it is not fixed. The problem still exists.”
Owner complaint, filed May 23, 2026
“While driving at highway speed in my 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 truck, the truck's front wheels began to violently shake and wobble with incredible vibration and bumpy ride. I thought I would lose control of the vehicle. I slowed, turned on my emergency flashers and hit the brakes pulling off the interstate. After a few minutes I continued on only to have the same incident described happen again a few miles later.”

From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 Blomquist Report at …

Our first issue with the LT 265/70R17 was in 2020. We had a defective front driver ( tread came completely off the tire) of a Dodge Ram 2500. Replaced it and bought another new one, both new in front now @Sam’s Club. Drove to CA. On the way home, back left tire (drivers side) EXPLODED !! on hwy.10. Lost control of the truck and went off into the center divider, the truck rolled over and was completely destroyed. My wife had a concussion and had to have shoulder surgery due to the roll over. She almost lost her life and I got a hernia from impact. Our dog ( STD. Poodle)was catapulted from backseat about 20ft. Everyone lived. We did all the right things. Tires were inflated correctly, drove speed limit, temp. 75, 9:00am. No traffic. DPS deemed it NO FAULT because the tread that had come off the tire had 10/32nds and was fine. What went wrong????

Tire size was not correct. Actual was lt265/70r17 Rating 121/118S Just had two tires installed on the rear of the said truck. While pulling 5 ton bumper pull trailer, the amount of sidewall flex on these tires made it dangerous to drive. The amount of reverse track, which I don't know how to explain other than when you turn left the back of the vehicle will actually swing out (in the case of a left steering input, the back of the vehicle will go right, racing drivers also call this being lose). When other vehicles especially larger vehicles like semis past my vehicle or even the trailer behind it, it would push the back end of my vehicle and induce a turn... Talk about white knuckle driving .. I only drove about 200 mi to get home after having the cooper tires installed, I'm having them removed immediately as they are extremely dangerous to drive with. When I talked to Cooper they mention these tires were specifically made for Walmart, they are quite cheap. Also, the only reason I bought them is because I was on the side of the road with another tire that had separated tread but it was due to age and needed to get home. Walmart was the only tire place that could install tires. The previous michelins I had on there were great and did not have this issue(only the rear tires were replaced) I am working with Cooper and their satisfaction guaranteed promise, where they will switch them out with different tires and I just pay the difference, but I do not believe these tires should

Headlights- the passenger side headlight would come on then go off whenever it wants to and now the low beam does not work. I have tested the connection and replaced the bulb several times and still does not work. When driving at night it makes it difficult to see. And is also against the law to not having working headlights. Trailer lights- the drivers side brake light/blinker on any trailer that’s hooked to my truck does not work. I have taken it the a local shop (street dynamics which is out of business now) several times over the last 5 years to see if they can fix the issue. The fix was to put a jumper wire from the truck brake light to the trailer connector. I still do not have a blinker on the driver side of the trailer. Windshield wipers- the windshield wipers will come on and off whenever they want. Some times when it is raining they will turn on with the switch then will turn off while driving or will stay on after the switch is turned off. The switch has been replaced and did not change anything. It is dangerous to drive the truck during inclement weather. I am a Police officer and have been for 17 years. In the last 12 plus years I have owned the truck which is a 2006 Dodge 2500 I have been told by several dodge technicians and mechanics that the issues I’m having is being caused by the TIPM. While researching the tipm I have found out all of my trucks issues are similar to a lot of other people’s 2006 dodge 2500s. I have had issues with the trailer brake lights s

The shift cable linkage and bushings premature wear, or the valve body release allowing the shifter to be removed from park. This happened on my 2006 Dodge 2500 truck. I have had this truck since brand new and have maintained vigorously. Fortunately I was only going 25mph on the back road from my house. If this had happened on the highway I may not be here to tell this story. I felt like I had a flat tire so i stopped and didn't see anything so I started again and drove about a foot and then heard this loud crunching sound. I got out to find the center of my wheel had separated for the inside of the wheel. When I bought the truck I got the premium wheel package. The chrome covers are made on the wheel. I think what happened is because the chrome covers are made on the wheel there is no way to see that the wheel is rusting from the inside out and the owner has no idea they are driving a time bomb waiting to happen. My truck is almost rust free. I always took care to wash the salt off it in the winter 3 or 4 times a week. The truck has spent the last 10 years in Florida. I have never in my life ever seen this happen. I have no idea where the hub cap or the chrome cover went.

Visibility/Wiper
Filed Feb 10, 2024OR
This is a safety concern I have faced on multiple occasions with this pickup. I have owned it since new and kept up on maintenance and recalls. Today it happened again. What it is, the windshield wipers will erratically wipe, sometimes not wipe, not shut off, as well as come on at random. I reside in the wet side of the state of Oregon where it can be super dangerous to loose wipers in a torrential downpour of rain or snow. This pickup get use predominately for pulling trailers, which yet again adds another layer of danger when I lose much visibility of the road ahead of me. The first time this got really bad I took it to the dealer out of warranty and they diagnosed for three hours to tell me it was 90% probable that it was the Total Ingratiated Power Control Module. I said yes I will pay the total combined $1,400 to hopefully fix the problem. At times after this it has had occasional issues. Today, [XXX], it was acting about like it did the years ago that the dealer extracted, what I felt to be good money, to fix windshield wipers. I suspect in the round of diagnosis they may have messed with the wiper motor and made things marginally better for the years that I have since got out of it. On the dealer fix I researched the problem and it seemed to be kinda common in 2006 Dodge Rams at the time. Today I was doing more research to go about fixing this problem myself since the dealer fix has always been unsatisfactory to me. In this research I found two recalls for 2008-2009 Do

Good Morning! On April 9, 2023 I was going to pickup my Son in his 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 at LAX. He was returning from a 3 week trip to Chile. After taking the transmission out of gear I attempted to start the truck, but the battery was dead. I got out of the cab and released what I thought was the hood release but released the emergency brake instead. The front wheel was turned at about a 40 deg. angle to the right in my driveway which is on about a 15 deg slope to the street. The truck rolled back pinning my left leg under the left front tire, while the open drivers side door pushed me towards the now moving wheel. the left front wheel continued to roll over my left hand and my right chest grazing my left side of my head. The truck continued to roll down the street and into a neighbors truck. I suffered 13 broken ribs, a collapsed right lung, a partially collapsed left lung, a broken shoulder, and a broken left eye socket bone, deep vein thrombosis in both lower legs, 2 weeks in the ICU, 1 week in the hospital and 1 week in rehab. I am presently in home rehab. The man across the street from me at one time worked as a service manager / mechanic for a local automotive shop, and told me that he has made the same mistake many times of mistaken the emergency brake release for the hood release. I would recommend relocating the brake release to the right of the steering wheel on all vehicles that have a foot actuated emergency brake.

November 2022-While trying to use my windshield wipers to clean my front windshield I noticed I could not turn them off plus they would move super fast then very slow. Over the next few months my windshield wipers would sometimes work normal but now they are consistently running sporadically: running fast, slowing down starting and stopping on their own. This is a very dangerous situation during a rain storm and I am going to take my truck into the dealer for repair but for safety reasons, this needs to get looked into for recall.

During a recent snowstorm, the windshield wipers started acting erratically. The wiper delay function no longer works. The wipers operate at one speed, when they work, and do not turn off when I turn the switch off. They seem to time out after awhile and stop wherever they happen to be on the windshield, not the lower parked position.

The truck is currently at a service station as it developed a "death wobble" while driving down the freeway a shimmed so hard I couldn't control it but managed to get it to the side of the road and finally to a stop. I did not receive any type of warning. I am being told by the mechanic at the service station it is going to require a rebuild of the front suspension. After checking to see if this has been a recall issue, I found there had been 3 but I did not receive notification of this particular recall. Not sure if the age of the truck prevents me from going back to have Dodge resolve this issue. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The windshield wipers stopped working as Hurricane Nicole was hitting Lantana Florida. Got truck home and replaced wiper motor. Did not fix the problem. Replaced the Multi-function Switch (Mopar part#56049823AB) Did not fix problem. This happened around 1:00 pm. I was in traffic. It took about 1 1/2 hour to drive 10 miles because of rain bands from the storm. The wipers stopped working at regular speed and moved in slow motion at high speed, then stopped working altogether. I have not been to the dealer. I am told its probably the Body Control Module (BCM). This sound expensive. This happened 11/9/22

1. The Panic Alarm randomly goes off without be activated by anyone. Possibly a TIPM issue which couldn't be investigated because it randomly went away. Maybe it will go off in the middle of the night in my subdivision. Who knows it's unpredictable. 2. Right Turn Signal & Stop Light would not work on the trailer. I confirmed that it wasn't an issue with the trailer but it was a problem with the TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module) Output (not working). The TIPM has a LONG history of intermittent electrical failures. This is a Safety Issue and a vehicle investigation for ALL vehicles that have TIPMS. TIPMS have been known to cause random vehicle stall & other intermittent random electrical failures and shut downs since 2006 when they were first put in vehicles. A RECALL is long overdue because this is ONLY 1 example of a minor problem. I've only owned the vehicle for 1 week...what's next? TIPMS can cause the vehicle to act intermittently crazy. No warning lamps or fault messages.

The contact was able to pull over and park the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and diagnosed with fractured linkages and damaged strut rods. The vehicle was not repaired and remained with the independent mechanic. Prior to the failure, the independent mechanic had replaced the stabilizer bar, tie rod end, steering ball joints, and linkages. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 148,000.

The TIPM module is bad. This part controls quite a bit of electrical current to various areas of the vehicle. It stalls when stopped at a traffic light, it is not sending the brake light information to an attached trailer (left side only), gauges inside the vehicle have stopped working (to name a few of the items being affected by this control). This part can be inspected as it is currently still on the vehicle. Safety is a concern due to either not being able to move out of the roadway, and also when pulling a trailer as no one will see turn signals or brake lights on the tow vehicle as the power isn't going to the trailer lights. I was informed of the malfunction at a trailer dealership. The problems have been getting worse over the last 4 years of ownership of this vehicle. The check engine light is currently on, even though what the computer read out gave has now been repaired. There has currently been no accident that this vehicle has been involved in.

While driving at highway speed in my 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 truck, the truck's front wheels began to violently shake and wobble with incredible vibration and bumpy ride. I thought I would lose control of the vehicle. I slowed, turned on my emergency flashers and hit the brakes pulling off the interstate. After a few minutes I continued on only to have the same incident described happen again a few miles later. I contacted the local Chrysler dealership and made an appointment, detailing the incident. I was told my truck was not covered by a safety campaign.

In 2006, I bought this truck new and for the 3rd time I am again putting it in for repairs for the same problem, a /c blend doors. I do not believe this is a safety issue, but has cost me an average of $1000.00 each time (x3). The last visit I had the cooling system replaced (2019) and here again the same problem has happened again. This first time I had the dealer fix it and I recall that visit cost me around $2500.00. I still like this vehicle and it runs fine with 124.000 plus miles. But, if I decide to get rid of it it will be because of this A/C problem and will have an impact on what to replace it with.

WHEN I WENT TO PASS, I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR TO GET SOME SPEED. I FLOORED IT. BOTH TIMES THE GAS PEDAL STUCK DOWN TO THE FLOOR AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO GET IT TO RELEASE. Complaints 1-50 of 670, newest first, reproduced as filed.
Going by the federal record, it is one of the Ram 2500 years to avoid: owners filed 670 complaints, 2.4 times as many as a typical Ram 2500 year. The most common complaint is about the steering (30%).
What is the most common problem with the 2006 Dodge Ram 2500?
The steering: 199 of the 670 complaints (30%) are about it. Owners most often say it vibrates or shakes (26%) and loses steering assist or the wheel locks (6%). The typical report comes at 88,000 miles.
How many recalls does the 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 have?
9 safety recalls on file with NHTSA, the most recent filed May 24, 2016. 2 of them carry a do-not-drive or park-outside warning. The largest, 16V352000, covered 4,648,270 vehicles. Recall repairs are free at a dealer; whether a specific car still has one open depends on its VIN.
At what mileage do 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 problems start?
Half of the complaints that record an odometer reading came in before 78,000 miles. For the steering the midpoint is 88,000 miles.
Has NHTSA investigated the 2006 Dodge Ram 2500?
Yes, 5 times. The latest, EA21002 ("Desiccated Air Bag Inflator Rupture"), was opened Sep 17, 2021 and is still open. 2 investigations are open.
Are there service bulletins for the 2006 Dodge Ram 2500?
The manufacturer filed 48 technical service bulletins and other notices for it with NHTSA, most of them about the engine (12), the electrical system (9) and the transmission (7). A bulletin is a repair instruction to dealers, not a recall: the fix is usually free only under warranty.
Reading this record
NHTSA has issued a do-not-drive warning for a recall on this vehicle.
Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
Recall repairs are free for as long as the recall stands. Check whether a specific car still has open work at NHTSA's VIN lookup.
Most recent recall on file: May 24, 2016. Source: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation.
