Filed Nov 22, 2017365,885 vehiclesForest River, Inc.

Defect. Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2003-2018 Forest River Berkshire, Charleston, Rockport, Cedar Creek, Cherokee, Riverstone, Salem, Sandpiper, Sierra, Vengeance, Wildcat, Wildwood, XLR Boost, Cargo Mate, Continental Cargo, motorhomes, recreational trailers, toyhaulers, cargo trailers and restroom trailers and 2009-2018 Coachmen Mirada, Pursuit, Concord, Leprechaun, Freelander, Orion and Prism motorhomes, 2009-2017 Coachmen Apex and Catalina recreational trailers, and 2013-2017 Shasta Oasis and Revere recreational trailers, equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf

Risk. In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.

Remedy. Forest River will notify owners, instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on December 27, 2017. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-800-348-7440, or Kidde customer service toll free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information. Forest River's number for this recall is 51-0544.

Defect. Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2014 FR3, 2009 Forest River Encore, Sportscoach Elite, and Aurora, 2008-2009 Cruise Master, 2012-2015 Aviator, 2007-2014 Georgetown, 2007-2009 Legend, 2008-2012 Ridgeview, 2008-2014 Cross Country, 2010-2014 Coachmen Encounter, 2009-2014 Pathfinder, Solera, Mirada, Prism, and Pursuit motorhomes. The affected vehicles are equipped with certain Lippert-brand Coachstep Double and Triple Electric Steps. These steps use a bolt to attach the fan gear assembly to the steps. This bolt may fracture allowing the fan gear to disengage from the steps. As a result, the steps may not remain in the expected position and may be unstable.

Risk. Unstable entry and exit steps increase the risk of injury.

Remedy. Forest River will notify owners and dealers will install a retainer bracket to reinforce the operating mechanism, free of charge. Forest River issued an interim notification to owners on January 7, 2016. The recall began on March 3, 2016. Owners may contact Forest River customer service number at 1-574-389-4600. Forest River's number for this recall is 51-11102015-0109. Or owners can contact Lippert Components at 1-574-537-8900.

Filed Sep 16, 20153,804 vehiclesForest River, Inc.

Defect. Forest River, Inc., (Forest River) is recalling certain 2011-2016 Coachmen Pursuit, Mirada, and Encounter motorhomes manufactured from March 1, 2011, through September 11, 2015. In the affected vehicles, the trailer hitch attaching bolts and nuts may not have been properly tightened, allowing the hitch to detach during use.

Risk. If the trailer hitch partially or fully detaches from the motorhome while it is towing a vehicle, a loss of vehicle control could occur, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will install a new fastener kit, free of charge. The recall began on October 9, 2015. Owners West of the Mississippi River may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-825-8317. Owners East of the Mississippi River may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-825-8305. Defect. Forest River is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Forest River models Blue Ridge, Cardinal, Cherokee, Columbus, EVO, Georgetown, Flagstaff, Forester, Lexington, Puma, Rockwood, Sabre, Salem, Sandpiper, Sandstorm, Sierra, Stealth, Sunseeker, Wildcat, Wildwood, Work and Play and XLR; Coachmen models Brookstone, Catalina, Chaparral, Concord, Encounter, Freedom Express, Freelander, Leprechaun, Mirada, Pursuit, and Sportcoach; Prime Time models Avenger, Crusader, Lacrosse, Saniber, and Tracer; Palomino model Maverick Truck Camper; Cargo Mate model Eliminator and Shasta models Revere, Phoenix recreational vehicles manufactured from February 13, 2013, through April 18, 2013. Due to a design change in the power awning motor assembly, the motor assembly screws may unknowingly shear.

Risk. If the motor assembly screws shear, it is possible that the awning can unfurl unexpectedly, either while the vehicle is at rest or while in transit, increasing the risk of personal injury or a vehicle crash.

Remedy. Forest River will notify owners and Dometic staff will replace the affected motors with motors of a different design. The safety recall began on July 29, 2013. Owners may contact Forest River at 1-574-389-4600 or Dometic at 1-888-447-0003 for more information. Owners are being instructed not to drive their vehicle until repairs can be performed.

THE RIGHT TRAVEL LOCK BRACKET (INTO WHICH A SAFETY PIN IS INSERTED) OF THE ELECTRIC BED, WHICH IS ABOVE THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS, BROKE IN HALF WHILE DRIVING ( ON INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH). THE BED WAS IN THE RETRACTED POSITION. THIS BED IS APPROX 7.5 FT BY 4.5 FT, AND WITH ATTACHED CABINETS, WEIGHS OVER 100 LBS. IT APPEARS THAT WHAT KEPT THE FRAME FROM FALLING MORE WAS THE WIRE TO THE PIN WAS WRAPPED AROUND THE BED FRAME. HAD THE LEFT SIDE FALLEN, THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE CAUSED LOSS OF CONTROL, RESULTING IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. IN ANY CASE, THE CURRENT CONFIGURATION OF THIS BED, AND ITS LOCATION, IS UNSAFE, GIVEN THE DEFECTIVE BRACKET/TRAVEL LOCK DESIGN. WE HAVE NOT OPERATED THIS BED SINCE WE PURCHASED THE RV IN JAN. HOWEVER, WE HAVE TRAVELED OVER 7000 MILES SINCE MAY, AND THE ENTIRE BED HAS SHAKEN/ RATTLED CONTINUOUSLY WHILE IN MOTION. PERHAPS THE FATIGUE LIFE OF THE METAL BRACKET WAS EXCEEDED- POINTING TO A PART THAT IS INSUFFICIENT FOR ITS PURPOSE. I HOPE THAT NHTSA CAN MAKE THIS PROBLEM KNOWN TO ALL RV OWNERS WITH THIS TYPE OF BED, AND/OR ENSURE RV MANUFACTURERS TAKE APPROPRIATE MEASURES TO FIX THIS. EVEN ONE MORE INCIDENT LIKE THIS MIGHT CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY, OR WORSE. THANK YOU, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

ON 7/16/15 I WAS TRAVELING FROM NY CITY TO AUBURN NY. AFTER PULLING INTO A CAMP GROUND IN AUBURN NY IT CAME TO MY ATTENTION THAT THE EXTERNAL COMPONENTS [QUICK RELEASE PINS] OF MY RECENTLY PURCHASED BLUE OX TOWING SYSTEM WERE GONE. UPON REALIZING THIS CONDITION I KNEW THE SAFETY HAZARD HAD OCCURRED AT AN EARLIER POINT WHILE IN ROUTE. MY FIRST ACTION WAS TO CALL THE MANUFACTURE TO ADVISE THEM OF THE SITUATION. AFTER SOME DISCUSSION RELATING TO THE TRUTHFULNESS OF MY CLAIM THEY STATED THEY WOULD OVERNIGHT THE APPROPRIATE PARTS TO REPAIR THE SITUATION. AFTER 48 HOURS WITH NO DELIVERY I DROVE MY RV HOME AND MY WIFE DROVE OUR CAR. A SUBSEQUENT DELIVERY WAS MADE TO THE ADDRESS I PROVIDED THEM 2 DAYS AFTER MY DEPARTURE. I SUBSEQUENTLY RECEIVED TODAY [7/28/15] PARTS THAT DO NOT CORRESPOND TO THE PARTS OF MY ORIGINAL PURCHASE THAT WERE SAID TO REMEDY THE SITUATION. IT IS MY SINCERE BELIEF THAT THE ENTIRE UNIT HAS BEEN COMPROMISED. I HAVE SINCE SPOKEN TO OTHER ENTHUSIASTIC CAMPERS WHO SHARE MY OPINION OF THE UNIT AS A WHOLE. ALTHOUGH I ASSUMED THE BELATED PARTS I HAVE RECEIVED IS THEORETICALLY AN OFFER OF INDENTIFICATION BY THE BLUE OX CORPORATION I DESIRE TO BRING TO YOUR ATTENTION THE OVERALL STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE ENTIRE UNIT. I STRONGLY FEEL THAT SOME SORT OF INVESTIGATION SHOULD BE MADE AS I BELIEVE THAT THIS SITUATION IS A DANGER TO OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. I SINCERELY BELIEVE THAT THIS IS AN ON GOING INTEGRITY PROBLEM WITH THIS UNIT AND THAT THE CORPORATION IS NOT ADDRESS

(1) ALL CABINET DRAWERS FAIL TO LOCK PROPERTY. WHEN VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, DRAWERS POP OPEN AND SLAM SHUT. THIS LOUD, ABRUPT SOUND CAUSES MAJOR DISTRACTIONS FOR THE DRIVER, AVERTS ATTENTION FROM THE TASK OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE SAFELY, IN TURN, POTENTIAL TO CAUSE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS AND INJURY. (2) PANTRY DRAWERS FAIL TO LOCK PROPERTY. WHEN VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, DRAWER PRODUCES A LOUD BAND, SIMILAR TO A BLOWN TIRE OR HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE. THIS LOUD, ABRUPT SOUND CAUSES MAJOR DISTRACTIONS FOR THE DRIVER, AVERTS ATTENTION FROM THE TASK OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE SAFELY, IN TURN, POTENTIAL TO CAUSE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS AND INJURY. (3) DRAIN HOSE FROM THE REFRIGERATOR IS POSITIONED DIRECTLY ABOVE THE OUTSIDE ELECTRICAL OUTLET. WHEN THE OUTSIDE ELECTRICAL OUTLET IS NOT BEING USED, A CAP COVERS AND SEALS THE PLUGIN FROM RAIN AND DRAIN WATER. THE PROBLEM DEVELOPS WHEN THE ELECTRICAL OUTLET IS IN USE, THE PROTECTIVE COVER IS OPENED AND AN ELECTRIC PLUG IS BEING UTILIZED. DRAIN WATER SPILLS ONTO AND INTO THE ELECTRICAL OUTLET. *TR

Reading this record

No unusual pattern of severe incidents in the complaint record.

Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.

Recall repairs are free for as long as the recall stands. Check whether a specific car still has open work at NHTSA's VIN lookup.
