When all the brake settings are set to factory and I back out of my vehicle onto the main road in front of my driveway the vehicle will occasionally detect something and lock the vehicle in park with emergency brake engaged. I then have to put the vehicle in drive all this while oncoming traffic may or may not be oncoming. The brake engagement happens if the corn in the field is blowing the right way or shadows from the tress. I had this into the dealer and also contacted the manufacture. They both told me to turn off all the safety features so this wouldn't happen or do not back out of my driveway.
2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 complaints
Owner reports filed with NHTSA about this vehicle, newest first and reproduced as filed. They are unverified accounts: one proves nothing, and a pattern across many is the thing worth reading. Back to the full 2023 record →
I was going down the interstate and my car engine turned off and almost made me crashed into another car. Chevy dealership took it and after a month they said the engine is locked up so it needs a new engine now.
My trucks engine failed when I was driving on the highway with my family in the vehicle. The truck lost power and struggled to get off on the side of the road. Truck has been at the dealership since 25 Nov 2024 with still no diagnostics. GM is claiming they will not replace due to lift on the truck which has nothing to do with all these engine failures. Last contact from dealership was 27 Dec 2024.
Motor seized while driving on freeway at 65 Mph. Coasted to the media on the freeway in the middle of a dividing highway. The highway patrol stopped and then left feeling unsafe. Dealer would not tear down without a $3000 release from me for labor, if not covered under warranty. This is now a federal investigation with this motor and over 86k complaints. I would also like to add, this happened to a new truck my son bought in 2021 Silverado trail boss so GM new about these motors and are still selling them!!!
Faulty coolant control valve causing reduced engine power at highway speeds and reduced acceleration caused unsafe operation on highway. Was unable to safely maneuver to right lane on highway to allow faster traveling traffic to pass. Fortunately was only about 5 miles from home and was able to operate the vehicle in "limp" mode after traffic cleared. There was no warning just during operation check engine light and reduced engine power displayed on the drivers information center. The vehicle is available for inspection with the defective part because GM can't source a replacement despite occurring nearly eight weeks ago. GM has authorized the warranty repair and is currently at a Chevrolet franchise dealership awaiting repair parts. The manufacture is aware of the issue and has accepted a manufacture engine part is the cause of the issue.
Engine seized at 330 miles. I’ve recently seen the investigation into crank bearing failure on the L87. We upfit new vehicles. This was a test truck. We pulled oil from another identical chassis with 10 miles on it and sent it in for testing to a 3rd party. At 100C/212F the viscosity was under 7 and it should be 20. It is our belief that GM has faulty bulk oil they’re putting in new vehicles.
There were no symptoms prior to the engine failure. On January 14th, 2025 while driving 58 miles per hour heard a sound that sounded like a slap on the back window. After the slap sound I noticed the engine was not running as normal. There was also a sound coming from the engine like metal rattling around. A few minutes later the check engine light appeared in the instrument panel. Had the vehicle towed to the nearest GM dealership and was informed that the thrust bearing went out which may have caused damage to the crankshaft.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V674000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
I was driving and received a check engine light with “Service ESC” and traction control was disabled. Performed diagnostics and found P0300, P0304 and P0204 all relating to cylinder 4 misfire and injector issues on cylinder 4. Truck has just over 47,000 miles and may be related to the lifter issues that plague this engine design.
2023 Silverado with 10 speed transmission. 20K miles. On 11/30 received "Reduced Power" message, quickly followed by "Service Transmission Now Unable to Shift Soon", which was quickly followed by "Service Transmission". CEL came on. Transmission was shifting erratically, and not shifting into higher gears. Clearly a safety concern. Dropped it off at a local dealer on 12/1. Dealer service advisor contacted me 12/12, saying they were finally able to diagnose the problem and the transmission needs a new valve body. However, the valve body is on back order and there is no estimated time for when it will be available. The internet is awash with stories of the same issue with GM's 10 speed transmission in the light duty pick up trucks, leaving owners waiting for weeks, even months before their vehicle is repaired.
My tailgate randomly opened while the vehicle was parked this fall on three separate occasions. I see there was a recall (N232426400) but it only included the Canadian equipment. Can we be certain the Canadian equipment wasn't used in my vehicle? If the Canadian equipment was faulty it's not a stretch to think the American or other equipment could be too.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power and decelerated to 20 MPH. The check engine warning light illuminated with the messages, “Reduced Acceleration – Drive with Care/Service Emission Systems” and “See Owner’s Manual” displayed. The contact drove the vehicle to the residence and the vehicle was then towed to the to a local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the wiring harness was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact linked the failure to Customer Satisfaction Program: N222391510. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 47,295.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 MPH and hauling a small box trailer, the vehicle slid several times. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road temporarily and resumed driving; however, the failure recurred several times. The contact pulled over to the side of the road. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that towing assistance could be provided for the vehicle but not for the box trailer. The contact decided to continue driving the vehicle to the residence while the manufacturer remained on the phone with the contact. The contact stated that upon test driving the vehicle the following day, the vehicle operated as needed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was inspected, and the dealer removed the valve body of the transmission per the manufacturers' instructions. The dealer then informed the contact that metal shavings were found in the transmission pan. The dealer replaced the transmission. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the rear end of the vehicle continued to make an abnormal humming sound. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was test-driven, and the dealer determined that the rear end of the vehicle needed to be rebuilt. The vehicle was repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that while his wife was driving 40 MPH on a wet road, the vehicle inadvertently slid off the road and drove on the gr
Vehicle was re-started after running into a store, vehicle made loud growling noise from engine compartment and Service Engine Soon light came on. Took truck to dealer for diagnosis and repairs. was called and informed That the Coolant control valve was defective and that NO parts were available at this time, and that the expected part arrival dat was the third week of January. When asked if the truck was drivable was told that it wasn't recommended due to engine overheating concern and vehicle going into LIMP mode and leaving me in an unsafe situation if traveling on a highway or at freeway speeds.
Vehicle goes into reduced power mode and prevents safe acceleration in traffic and is a major safety concern. The Coolant Control Valve is the issue which has been a problem in the Silverado for a few years. This part is also on national backorder.
The sound on the Infotainment system, which controls the radio, apple car play and phone calls cuts out randomly and will not turn back on until the truck is turned off for 10 minutes or you pull over and park and do a reset in safe mode. This is a hazard as you can not make emergency call while driving or if you are on an emergency call while driving you are forced to go from hands free to holding your cell phone while driving. I reach out to Chevrolet several and brought the truck to 2 different dealerships and it is still not fixed.
While driving the Vehicle - the left turn signal stopped working. When dropping off at the dealership was informed it is a software issue. The issue went away for a couple of months and then the exact thing happened when using now the right turn signal. This provides no way of letting other people know who are headed towards my vehicle that i am turning lanes. The last incident was verified by the dealership. The headlight is not serviceable. No warnings occurred until after a few blinks where the front signals wouldn't work then indicated that the light was malfunctioning.
Randomly several times a day the google assistant comes on unexpectedly and starts to talk, via the infotainment system. She says "I cannot do that but in the meantime you can......"
After repeated software upgrades, the infotainment system continues to drop bluetooth calls causing the driver to pick up the phone manually. System will drop the connection several times during a 5 min call. This causes the driver to get distracted. Radio system has been updated twice under warranty. Problem is still not resolved.
All lights including dash lights turned off while driving at night on the interstate at 82mph. Not sure if my knees hit the light switch or not but not sure why even dash lights went out. Brought vehicle to local Chevy garage, there was no code and they couldn’t duplicate the incident.
Three weeks ago, I exited my running truck and saw that the left front driving light wasn't working. Turned the turn signal on and it would not function either. At first the rear light was blinking normally. Then after about a minute it began to flash rapidly and the display showed, check left front turn signal. Shut it off and unit worked after restart. Two weeks later, did the same thing. This time it did not reset until the next day. It seems to malfunction when the headlights are activated, and I noticed there is a unit mounted on the back of the headlight assembly that appears to control it and the headlights, as it is one unit. I recorded it on video, and when I took it to the dealer, they were able to confirm the issue. They are going to replace that assembly. After some research, I am discovering that this is beginning to look like a common issue as others that own 2022 model years and up report the same thing. My vehicle has only 12,600 miles on it, and I have found people with 2024 GMC trucks also experiencing it. This is concerning as it is a safety issue with nonfunctioning turn signals or running lights. As I stated before, the first time it happened there was no warning that the driving light wasn't working nor was there a warning the first time it happened that the front turn signal wasn't flashing for over one minute. Most times your signal isn't on for that period of time. Mine is warranted but some people said that without proof; the dealer can't duplicate t
As also reported by another owner in NHTSA ID Number: 11602844, I have found several times that while driving on I-80 at or near speed limit with adaptive cruise control on and no traffic, no weather, dry pavement, that the truck suddenly applied the brakes hard. There was nothing on or upcoming in the road, the sides of the road were desert and near the road was clear. Over the course of the past year this has happened probably half a dozen times.
Within weeks of buying the truck the Auto STOP/START quit working. I never gave it much thought until after a service visit and it was again working. I asked the dealer and they said the battery voltage dropped below a set level, turning off the Auto STOP/START. It quit again days later and has never worked again. There is no apparent reset. My battery voltage is normal, I have a REDTIGER F7N 4K Dual Dash Cam running 24/7 but it is drawing 4.5 to 5 watts; the car is rarely left parked for more than a day. I was initially bothered that there was no On/Off for the Auto STOP/START but I am even more frustrated that it is no longer working and no apparent reset short of taking the truck to the dealer for service.
I have found between the last two oil changes, I have had to add 1-1/2 to 2 quarts of oil. I first thought that maybe the oil was not refilled fully but after the second time I asked the dealer about this and they said that the engine may need up to 2 quarts of oil added between oil changes. SERIOUSLY?! I cannot believe this is normal for a new truck with less than 30,000 miles. There is no leaks in my driveway, no obvious exhaust smoke.
Headlights and wipers stopped simultaneously for 1 second
On approximately 6 occasions over the past 12 months, either the right front turn lamp or left front turn lamp failed. Most recently this occurred on 8/27/24. When this happens, the entire front head lamp does not work. A warning on the dash shows as "Check Left/Right Front Turn Lamp" and the audible turn signal click is faster than normal. Turning the truck off for approximately 15 minutes fixes the issue until it returns again at random. Having functioning head lamps and turn signals is critical to safely operating a vehicle.
Truck started hesitating for no known reason. No check engine light, nothing. Shortly thereafter, truck stopped shifting after I pulled out into a very busy intersection. Would not move briefly. I quickly put it into park, then neutral, then drive again, and was able to limp out of the intersection, just missing oncoming vehicles. I was then able to barely limp to dealership. Check engine light finally came on just before I got there. They say defective transmission cooler seal and lines. I have no idea. Truck in shop for 5 weeks and no idea of when it will return. According to various Chevy/GMC forums, it's happening to others. Some have had entire transmission replaced in a car less than a year old. Not being able to exit an intersection is a problem.
On June 16, 2024, my vehicle stalled on a 70 mph interstate. I was able to get to the side and attempt to restart. After ten minutes, the vehicle restarted and I received a message of "Low Battery". I drove it immediately to the dealership and advised service. The next day I called the dealership for a status update and was advised the engine seized. The vehicle had 3,212 miles on it at the time. The dealership ultimately received permission to replace the engine which took about three and a half weeks. The vehicle is simply not the same and has several issues since. One was a No Start and No Power.
The way the hood on my truck was designed should be modified. If the sun hits my hood it about blinds me, the glare is very bright. One time I couldn't see the road for a minute or two. The sun visor does not help or solve the problem
At about 20k miles the valve body went out. When coming off the brake and pressing the gas the engine was jerking. The engine light came on and then started to downshift. The truck was towed to the dealer and they said a few days later it was the valve body. All the miles of the truck were highway miles and no towing was ever done on this truck.
Automatic Transmission Valve Body Failure. It is available for inspection. Safety issue: Lost high gears and low gears while towing a camper trailer, speed limited. Dealer confirmed problem and ordered parts. No advanced notice of the problem. Transmission experienced a hard shift and check engine light and warning message appeared. Dealer reports new part GM Part #24047995 is unavailable nationwide due to so many other customers with same problem. No timeframe given of when a part could be available.
This weekend while traveling on I95N I got into a wreck with automatic cruise control on. I had been in stop and go traffic for about 20 minutes and was following behind a Gatormade hauling trailer for well over a mile with no issues. Suddenly, from a dead stop, the truck attempted to accelerate to its preset speed of 50 mph. I was only one car length away from the trailer and wasn't covering the break. By the time I got my foot on the break, I slammed in the back of the trailer. At no point did the emergency brake warning or any alerts pop up.
On our road trip back home driving on the highway using the adaptive cruise control set to the speed limit and it’s night. Clear night and no traffic or rain. The truck applied brakes hard and dropped about 12 miles per hour. Another hour later same thing happened. I was fortunate to avoid the car behind me. There was nothing on the road ahead of me.
Forward collision system will light up and state it is not functioning. Will reset once truck is turned off for a bit. Stereo audio will intermittently cut out and stereo needs to be reset to hear audio again. Apple CarPlay will intermittently not connect
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 15 MPH, the brake pedal depressed to the floorboard and failed to stop as needed. No warning lights appeared on the instrument panel and the forward collision avoidance feature failed to operate as needed. Due to the failure, the contact crashed into another vehicle. The air bags did not deploy upon impact. Neither the contact nor the passenger sought immediate medical attention; however, the other driver did state they would be seeking an X-ray. A police report was filed. Due to the accident, the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it remained in their possession. The dealer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 11,000.
Took truck to dealer for oil change 05/28/2024. After service was completed truck was returned with Forward Collision Avoidance warning light activated. Spoke with service advisor who had no idea how to reset sensor. They cleaned windshield at camera location and still not reset. Took vehicle home and discovered cruise control was also disabled. Had to make another service appointment to have Forward Collision Avoidance and cruise control repaired.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ductwork above the brake pedal disabled the contact from rapidly depressing the brake pedal. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000.
While driving approximately 20MPH and entering a left turn lane, I activated the left turn signals and discovered the driver side front turn signal was inoperative. A cluster message appeared indicating the left front turn signal was inoperative along with hearing the audible double speed "tick tock" indicating a bulb failure. When I arrived home, I also discovered the daytime running lamp (DRL) on the driver side, which shares the same portion of the lamp as the turn indicator, was also inoperative. On the next drive cycle the fault cleared itself. A non-functioning turn signal increases the risk of a vehicle crash. This is also a non-compliance with FMVSS 108, Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment. VOQ's 11584694, 11582809, 11577734, 11566682, 11561217, 11555917, 11548335, and 11528583 describe a similar failure and are happening early in the vehicle's life.
MY Vehicle (2023 Chevrolet Silverado) has been in the shop over 9 times due to issues with the radio. I bought Truck on June 2 and since then have had truck in several times due to a radio issue. Each time i have taken truck in i have been told it's a "Software Update" should be good now. Spoke with GM Customer care and their exact words were shut the radio off drive without it. The radio volume with go full blast while driving even when the radio is turned down low. When this happens, it scares you some wheel jerking. I could see someone getting hurt while this is happening, upon looking at a few different forums i am a part of this is a concern and affects a lot of drivers. The fact GM customer care simply states just shut the radio off is a real concern, We as consumers pay a lot of money for these vehicles this in my opinion is not the correct response. They don't have a fix for this yet is also what the woman from customer care had to say. this truck is over a year old. how is this possible? GM is aware of this issue but has done nothing but continue to put people's lives in danger. I don't think telling their buyers to turn off the radio and drive without it is what should be getting said.
No idea where the problem lies due to inconsistent trouble codes, the truck will randomly start jerking and sometimes kill itself after throttle won’t respond no matter the speed. Every time I’ve had somebody drive it, it does not act up for them. I’ve had several parts replaced with the same problem coming back 50+ miles later. When it gets ready to shut down it throws the check engine light, service esc, collision light, and traction light, then says speed reduced or speed will be reduced in 175 miles. I have video evidence of all of this.
Radio cuts out, no sound. Can't even use hands free calling because the sound doesn't work. Driver will try to get sound back while driving, taking eyes of the road to fiddle with radio. No recalls at the moment for this issue. Several blogs online that people are experiencing this issue. Has not been inspected as the issue is intermediate, cannot reproduce at a certain time. Could happen once a week or several days in a week, random. There were no warnings before the radio cuts out. The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while using the left or right turn signals, the message "Check Left Front Turn Lamp" or "Check Right Front Turn Lamp" was displayed. During the failure the exterior turn signal had become inoperable. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 4,000.
Vehicle caught fire and burned up while idling at my babysitters
Multiple random electrical issues, including, but not limited to: 1) "Service ESC" warning activates causing the truck to have greatly reduced speed and power. Extremely dangerous at expressway speeds in heavy traffic. 2) Electrical system & engine completely shuts down with no warning. Extremely dangerous for obvious reasons. Temporarily remedied by disconnecting/reconnecting battery, thus resetting the system. Problems have been confirmed by the dealer, Bomnin Chevrolet- Dadeland. Supposedly vehicle has been inspected by a GM "TAC" technician. Vehicle has been and is currently in the possession of the dealer off & on approaching 2 months with no resolution.
The contact's husband owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at approximately 60 MPH, and shifting gear, the vehicle lost motive power for 15-20 seconds. The Forward Collision Avoidance warning light was illuminated. On another occasion, while her husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, the driver assist function was activated, an error message was displayed, and the vehicle failed to operate as intended. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the contact was informed that the transmission fluid needed to be flushed, and the TCM module needed to be updated. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 42,000.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle was designed with the Auto START/STOP feature. The contact stated that while at a complete stop, the engine shut off and failed to restart upon releasing the brake pedal to drive the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the Auto START/STOP sensor had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Additionally, the dealer advised the contact to disengage the feature when driving. The contact followed the dealer's recommendation. The contact stated that on one occasion after forgetting to disengage the feature before driving, while at a complete stop, the engine shut off and hesitated to restart. The message "Brake System Failure" was displayed, and the brakes became inoperable. The contact pumped the brake pedal, but the vehicle failed to respond. The contact allowed the vehicle to roll from a complete stop and pull into a gas station. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.
At approximately 9k mi the engine performance (2.7L MAX Turbo) started to become intermittent. I always record the fuel milage, and always drive the same way, to/from work. NOTE: Displayed mpg calculates within 1% of actual. We can assume the driving habits are identical each time. While driving on the same tank of fuel for a week at a time: one day heading to work the indicated mpg might be 17 mpg. Driving home, about 10 minutes into the drive, it might increase 25 mpg. The following day it could be the same 17/25 mpg or it might be 25/17. The weather is somewhat dependent, whereas around =<43F the 17 mpg is almost a guarantee. While the indicated lower mpg is displayed, a direct lack of engine power is noticeable. The accelerator is dangerously non-responsive, all the while of pressing the pedal >3/4 to the floor. There is also no downshifting from the transmission whatsoever. To make the engine respond to change, the accelerator must be fully pressed to the floor, forcing the transmission into a lower gear and causing the engine to 'wake up'. When the mpg is above 20 or 21 mpg, (and temperatures >50F) the engine performs normally, where gradual accelerations to the pedal increase the engine speeds and down shift as expected. I have contacted GM through the 'MyCheverlot' app a couple of times, and have taken the truck to the dealer twice for this. Both times from the dealer it was stated that since the engine light was not on and no codes were stored, there was nothing that
Lost all sound in the truck. No warning sounds , no turn signal sounds, no radio, no navigation sounds. I missed a notification of a wreck on the road in front of me that would have been audible if the trucks sound systems were working.
Truck is equipped with a power up/down tailgate. I was driving on a rainy day and stopped for gas. Upon putting the vehicle in Park and shutting off the engine, the driver information center alerted with a dinging sound several times. Upon returning and starting the engine the information center alerted that the tailgate was open. I got out and checked and the tailgate was open. I closed the tailgate by manually lifting it. I believe this is a safety issue and the switching mechanism or sensor needs to be repaired or replaced.
On first start up when put truck in drive and give gas when it shifts from 1st gear to 2nd gear there is a big hesitation when trying to shift and rpm’s revs up then it goes into 2nd gear. This has been verified by the dealers service advisor. The service advisor says they have no service bulletin on this problem so they have no solution for it at this time. This has been happening since August 3 2023 off and on until today. I have many recording of this happening. The service adviser has listened to several of them.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
