What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The transmission and drivetrain system appear to be defective. The vehicle repeatedly experiences hard shifting, transmission shudder, hesitation during acceleration, delayed engagement when shifting into gear, and erratic gear changes. These problems occur during normal driving and have progressively worsened over time. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The transmission hesitation and delayed acceleration create a serious safety hazard. When pulling into traffic, crossing intersections, or changing lanes, the vehicle does not respond immediately when the accelerator is pressed. The delay leaves the vehicle exposed to oncoming traffic and increases the risk of a collision. The hard shifting and shuddering also cause the vehicle to behave unpredictably, reducing driver confidence and making it unsafe to operate in normal traffic conditions. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The problem is consistently reproducible during everyday driving. The transmission shudders, hesitates, and shifts harshly on a regular basis. Although the condition is intermittent in severity, it occurs frequently enough to create ongoing safety concerns. At this time, the vehicle has not been inspected by police or insurance representatives. The vehicle remains available for ins

I was driving the vehicle and suddenly there was a loss of power and a ticking noise. I was up to date with my oil changes per dealer recommendations. Had the vehicle towed to to Chevy dealer and they said they weren’t able to find what the problem is without further diagnosing. Further diagnosing was estimated to be about $2500. I had it towed to an independent shop, Viking Motorsports, to which the owner/mechanic tore down the engine and deemed it as bearing failure in my 6.2 L87. There was no warning whatsoever, just went from running to engine dead immediately. I proceeded to an engine change that has costed me approximately $15,000 and would like full reimbursement if not partial reimbursement from GM given that this is a known issue for the problem. I did not go with the Chevy Dealership for the job since they quoted me $20,000+ for the engine swap and realistically that wouldn’t make financial sense. I have a High Country and at 102,000 miles when the engine has failed. This has put me in such a financial bind.

Wife was driving on the interstate when the vehicle revved up and then a loss of power. had to drive home while vehicle was popping and still loss of power. I took to an Independent Service Center, and they started a tune up with changing plugs. They checked vehicle and advised that it was possibly a lifter failure, but they couldn't fix it. I took to another independent service person and after a diagnostic check and looking into the engine it was confirmed it was a lifter issue. Vehicle has been in the shop for 3 weeks waiting on parts.

I have a 2019 Chevy high country that went into engine failure when going down the freeway to work. The engine light came on flashing and the engine was stuttering. I had it taken into the local Dealership where they first replaced catalytic converter. 3 months later I had engine failure again going down the freeway. I had them drop a whole new engine into it. I understand there is an investigation regarding a recall for 2019-2020 year vehicles. How I got the vehicle: I had previously bought a certified used Chevy Silverado 2016. It also had engine failure where it would shut off in the middle of driving. I repeatedly took it back to the dealership (different dealership) and they could not fix it; Instead had me test out another loaner vehicle for possible purchase. Driving off of the lot that loaner vehicle engine light came on. I took it back and they failed to mention to me that they dropped a new block into that one. After that I got another loaner vehicle that I was pigeonholed into purchasing as they could not figure out the issue with my previous purchase. 6 months later it started having electrical problems with rear cameras not working, sensors out, etc; Then eventually the engine failed. The amount of money I have spent and growing safety concerns I have for transporting my family and myself are beginning to grow. I do not want to incur subsequent mechanical failures/expenses in other areas due to previous engine failure.

I was camping at a state park outside of Kenton Ohio. On Sunday July 19 2026 while backing up my travel trailer I lost power steering to my 2019 Silverado 1500. then a message came on my display saying service power steering soon and then a check wiring harness warning. I turned off truck and restarted it and warnings cleared and power steering came back. The following morning July 20th started the truck, no power steering and service engine light was on drove to Kenton and had codes read. Had multiple codes for different control modules. Power steering came back and I was able to drive home. Called my dealer and was able to get appointment on July 24. Tried to start truck and it would crank, start run rough for a few seconds then stall out. Had to have it towed to dealer for repair. End result faulty ground strap from body to frame, loss of electric power steering ability while driving due to a ground cable could have been a very dangerous situation for everyone in the vehicle and on the road

I had a complete loss of steering and had to have the truck towed to the dealership. This could have caused a very serious accident. There was no previous warning - it just went out. The dealership charged me $2183 to replace the steering gear. According to the literature, the steering function should last to well past 100K miles (my truck had 66,552 miles on it). In addition, there are multiple reports of steering going out online - perhaps a recall is in order. The literature also states that if diagnostic code C1599 then the steering rack is completely fine mechanically but it has simply lost its electrical connection. That is the code that the dealership saw - it sounds like the fix could have been much simpler and cheaper.

Without prior warning my power steering went out. This could have been life threatening. I had to have it towed to the dealership (Voss Chevy, Centerville OH). The truck had 66,552 miles on it and the extended warranty that we purchased thru Voss expired on 26 Mar 2026 and although we were under the 75K mileage, they would not honor it (planned obsolescence?) So they replaced the steering gear for $2183. After researching, the literature says that diagnostic code C1599 (which is what Voss saw) indicated that the steering rack is completely fine mechanically but it has simply lost its electrical connection. In addition, literature says that a steering rack should last at least to 100K miles. There are also multiple issues documented on carcomplaints.com regarding the loss of power steering. Perhaps a recall is needed. In addition, I believe we were mislead as to what repairs were needed.

In September 2004, I filed a complaint on my 2019 chevrolet Silverado was making a noise from under the steering wheel (like a click noise at least twice) also the brakes were changing the movement when I pressed the brakes. One night the brakes completely went out while driving at 55 mph. I tried everything from pumping hard but the pedal went all the way to the floor with no result. I related the gas until the vehicle came to a stop. From there I placed the vehicle on park in the middle of an intersection. When the traffic light turned green I placed the vehicle on D and it moved but still with no brakes. I parked on the side of the road and called a wrecker to tow my truck home. It was could not be driven. After filling a complaint the local dealership called me and fixed it free of charge. Last week the noise on the steering wheel came back and the brakes are acting funny again. While driving, my 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with the 5.3L V8 suddenly lost engine power approximately a quarter mile from my home. The vehicle has only 35,000 miles. A check engine light indicated a misfire, and I confirmed cylinder 7 was misfiring. I replaced the spark plug, plug wire, and coil pack, but the misfire continued. The dealership diagnosed a failed lifter in the Active Fuel Management (AFM) system and is disassembling the engine to assess further damage. This matches the widely documented AFM lifter failure pattern in GM 5.3L V8 engines. The sudden loss of motive power while driving created a safety hazard. All maintenance was performed at GM dealerships.

While flat towing my pickup truck behind my motorhome, on interstate 94 eastbound, in Minnesota I noticed smoke on my screen in the motorhome back facing camera. I safety pulled over to a truck rest area in Avon Minnesota. I went to investigate and realized that the pickup truck had flames coming from underneath the hood. Because of the fire and heat I wasn’t able to release the pickup truck from the motorhome which ultimately caused the Motorhome to catch fire as well. Police and fire department were called and both the Motorhome and pickup truck were totaled. My insurance company has possession of both vehicles. I previously had electrical problems with the pickup truck and took it to the Chevy dealership to address the issue. Evidence of module overheating with traces of burn were found on one occasion. I’m uploading photos of the police report and work orders from the dealership. No one was injured but all of our belongings were destroyed or damaged from the fire. We were left with nothing but what we had on at the time.

Purchased 2019 Chevrolet Silverado High Country Edition with the 6.2L engine and 143K miles for my son. The vehicle had a clean service history on Car Fax. On the day we purchased the vehicle, we drove it home and noticed it was shuttering at times. I used my computer scanner and it came back with a misfire cylinder #5. I troubleshot the issues and noted that the most common thing was a spark plug. Therefore, I replaced the spark plug and it drove much better. Two weeks later, my son was driving vehicle on I-40 near Nashville TN and without warning, vehicle stalled, locking steering wheel in place! Check engine lights came on and instructed him to place in neutral and restart, which he promptly did. The vehicle started, but went in limp mode making loud noises in engine before shutting off again. Luckily, traffic was minimal at 8 pm and he was able to get it over to the shoulder and avoid any injuries or accident. Towed it to Nick Mayer Chevrolet in Dickson, TN where they diagnosed it with catastrophic engine failure and needed to be completely replaced. This is the same issue that GM is being sued for and have somehow managed to take the stance that the lifter/cam/DFM issue only existed in 2020-newer models. The 2019 is when they changed to the newer body style and the new Gen V L87 engine in the 6.2. Despite the clean vehicle history, dealership reached out to GM and they stated they would not help cover any repairs but would gladly take 14K to fix it. The 2019-2026 models

At 60k miles we had a lifter failure that caused an engine replacement. We were traveling home on I-10 about an hour from the Texas Border. My wife was driving about 70-75mph. We had to loud pops and the truck started shaking badly. The pickup was purchased in May 2021 with 26,450 miles. It has been well maintained, so the lifter failure was a complete surprise. We booked a room at a local hotel (3 nights total). The towing company took it to the local Chevrolet Dealership. The dealership couldn't even look at it for over a week. My brother in-law drove 6 hours from our home with a trailer and we hauled it home. We scheduled an appointment with our purchasing dealership and dropped it off. It took a week to get the diagnoses. It was a lifter failure. Our warranty company authorized an engine replacement, but the dealership wanted to just do a cam shaft and lifter. We were without our truck for over a month. It then cost us $300 plus for componets not covered.

The engine in my truck failed while driving down the interstate highway (I-10) on May 28, 2026. At the time of failure, a loud popping noise emitted from the engine. Power and speed were reduced as the result of the failure. The Check Engine Light and Service Engine lights illuminated as quickly as the failure occurred. As many vehicles were simultaneously traveling along the highway at speed, my vehicle suddenly slowing down without indication (brake lights) could have inadvertently caused an accident. As a result, I continued driving the vehicle under reduced power to my home which was only approximately 2 miles away. During the 2-mile drive to my home, the loud popping noise intermitted but reduced power was consistent. Diagnostic checks revealed a code P0305 indicating that cylinder #5 was misfiring. Checking the components of that cylinder revealed the intake valve of cylinder #5 was not actuating when the engine was running indicating a failed lifter & camshaft.

I have a severe safety concern regarding the auto shut off for this Chevy Silverado pick up. Several times I have almost gotten into an accident because while slowing briefly to stop before making a left, turn across traffic, the engine shuts off. When you press the gas, the engine starts back up, but the delay causes a safety concern with oncoming traffic. This feature should have a longer delay or be selectable to turn on. On Sunday, April 12, 2026, at approximately 5:00 PM, I experienced a sudden and complete engine failure while driving my 2019 Chevy Silverado equipped with the 6.2L V8 engine. Without warning, the vehicle lost all ability to accelerate, creating an immediate and dangerous situation for myself, my family, and surrounding drivers. I was forced to rely on the vehicle’s remaining momentum to maneuver to the side of the road, all while other drivers honked as I attempted to merge with no engine power. This incident caused significant stress and posed a serious safety risk. My vehicle had to be towed home and then to [XXX] Casa Chevrolet at [XXX] . I own a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 equipped with the 8-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle has developed serious transmission problems that create a safety concern. When the transmission is cold, the vehicle slips between 1st and 2nd gear during acceleration. If I accelerate normally, the transmission slips and then engages with a hard bang. I must accelerate very slowly to avoid harsh engagement. In addition, during deceleration, especially when downshifting into 3rd gear, the transmission makes a hard "thump" or "bang". This unexpected shifting behavior creates a safety risk when entering traffic, making turns, or driving in stop-and-go traffic. The vehicle has been properly maintained, including transmission fluid service at a Chevrolet dealership, but the problem continues and appears to be getting worse. I understand many GM 8-speed transmission owners have reported similar issues. The repair cost quoted by the dealership is between $7,000 and $10,000, which suggests a possible design or manufacturing defect. I am filing this complaint for investigation of a potential safety-related transmission defect. Suddenly my vehicle would not allow me to shift into different gears and was stuck in drive gear. The shift selector does not allow me to change gears even though it has the same resistance on the shift selector lever. In order to allow the vehicle to shift gears, I had to go under the vehicle to manually switch gears by pulling the transmission selector located under the vehicle. Each time I drive my truck I have to go under my vehicle and manually pull the transmission selector to change gears out of drive.

On Tuesday April 28 while I was driving the engine suddenly started making a strange noise and the engine died. It would not restart. I had it towed to the dealer and was told the cam shaft “spun” and destroyed the engine. I am now having to replace the engine at a cost of $11,000!

I purchased the truck in 2021 from a chevy dealer with 32k miles on it, truck looked great and performed great, at 42k miles it started to be sluggish and it would vibrate between 30-40 and 60-70 as i feathered the gas pedal to maintain speed, but if i gave it more gas or take my foot off the pedal it would stop vibrating, I've taken it to 2 chevy dealers, the first one said it drives within GM spec's. the 2nd one looked more promising but my warranty ran out at 75k and i was at that mileage. So today at 93k on it, it still vibrates and sluggish from a start. I looked online and many people have similar problems. ALSO: The paint around my front wheels is peeling off down to the primer, I've had many vehicles and never had this happen to me, It's just flaking off, When i had the truck at the chevy dealer for maintenance and told him about it, He said GM will not fix it and they know about the issue. Now these trucks are not cheap, It seems like once they sell the vehicle GM washes their hands of it, I guess that's why they only give you 36,000 mile warranty because they don't even trust their product to last.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
