My Chevrolet Silverado has unresolved Electronic Stability Control (ESC) issues after recall reprogramming was performed twice under my VIN. The vehicle is shaking, hesitating, experiencing reduced acceleration, and feels like it may stall while driving. The truck is unsafe to operate. Dealer diagnosis is scheduled. GM Customer Care advised me to take it to the dealership before escalation. This is a loss-of-propulsion safety concern combined with unresolved ESC recall repairs. Vehicle has approximately 130,000 miles. Symptoms include shaking, hesitation, near-stall, and power loss while driving. ESC recall previously performed and still not resolved. Vehicle is drivable but unsafe. Blinking Engine light code cylinder 1 misfire. All ESC lights on parking brake, traction control.

As I’m driving, the vehicle began shaking and ticking sounds could be heard inside the cabin. A check engine light lit up on the dashboard. The idle was rough and it sounded like metal thrashing in the engine so I turned on my hazards and shut the vehicle off in the middle lane of the street. It didn’t want to turn over a couple times but when I was finally able to get it to start again it made the loud ticking and thrashing sounds. To prevent more damage I put it into neutral and had to push it with the help of bystanders to the closet parking lot putting us and other drivers at risk. I had the vehicle towed to the local Chevy Dealer for a diagnostic and they claim a catastrophic engine failure and recommend complete engine replacement. There were no symptoms of this prior.

I have experienced a catastrophic engine failure due to the faulty GM DFM lifters and oil pump. I was advised that my vehicle will need a new engine. I know there is Bulletin No.: 24-NA-173 for my vehicle. I have contacted GM, and they advised that there is nothing they can do since the truck is out of warranty. I know they are under investigation for the 6.2 L engine failure issues, and I feel as if this needs to include the 5.3L engines as well. This is very disappointing since I purchased this vehicle new, and have meticulously maintained it. Perhaps the CPA needs to get involved as well.

This complaint was way overdue I should have done it years ago.

My 2019 vehicle experienced premature torque converter failure resulting in transmission shuddering, hesitation, and loss of power while driving. The transmission fluid was found to be burnt, and the vehicle requires major transmission repair. These symptoms occurred during normal driving conditions and created a safety concern due to unpredictable vehicle behavior, particularly during acceleration and merging. This issue is widely reported in 2019 vehicles equipped with GM 8-speed transmissions. GM has acknowledged the issue through technical service bulletins but has not issued a recall.

While driving the vehicle I began to hear a ticking noise in the engine (lifter tick) and the check engine light came on. The vehicle began to lose power and started shaking. I stopped the vehicle and turned it off and restarted it and began to drive as I was not far from home. I found that the vehicle did not have full power and was not firing on all cylinders. After getting the vehicle home a diagnostic code showed cylinder 2 was not firing. The vehicle was towed to the dealership who confirmed there was a bad lifter and roller that dug into the camshaft. The sudden loss of power and shaking of the vehicle while driving is the safety concern. It seems that this is a common problem with these engines that GM is aware of and has failed to address.

I was driving on the interstate, when all my dash lights came on. When stationed, it would vibrate and have excessive smoke come from the exhaust when I would start driving again. After arriving to my destination there was an unusual burning/smokey smell when I got out of the vehicle. I got it scanned and it said it was a cylinder 2 misfire. I replaced the spark plug, coolant, gaskets. Still wasn’t fixed. Then I replaced the fuel injector. Still not working. The mechanic said the oil psi was 30. The vehicle was also burning thru gas and oil quicker than usual. Took it to the dealership and they said it needs a whole new engine and warranty is unsure if they will cover it or not.

I have a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with the 5.3ltr V8. The vehicle has 44,500 miles and has zero accident history. On 01/12/2026, the oil cooler line broke while driving, leaving 8 qts of oil covering the underside of the vehicle (exhaust, suspension and tires) creating a fire hazard along with possible loss of control with the rear tires coated in oil. Additionally, the vehicle is undrivable almost immediately due to zero oil pressure. The local Chevrolet dealership diagnosed it as a oil line failure. There is a Chevrolet Customer service program N212326940 for only certain VIN for this vehicle for this specific problem, however it doesn't cover my vehicle. In reviewing different web forums, this is a commonly known failure point with some defect to the hose clamp. GM has not extended a recall and has stopped covering this known failure. I'm not sure if it's a vendor/supplier failure with the oil line or an installation problem. A full recall and/or 10yr/100k warranty coverage should be provided for all oil line failures due to thousands of prior similar failures with the same oil line.

The contact was adding oil every 500 - 1,000 miles driven, because the message "Engine Oil Low - Add Oil" would be displayed on the instrument panel. The contact was later alerted by a friend that, upon leaving his residence, oil from the vehicle had leaked out onto the driveway. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic, who discovered that a line in the engine oil cooler was leaking oil from a detached crimp joint. Upon investigation, the contact discovered Customer Satisfaction Program: N212326940; for the failure. While merging onto another highway at normal traffic speed, I pressed the accelerator to safely increase speed and merge with traffic. At that moment, I heard a loud bang coming from the front engine bay. Immediately afterward, the vehicle began making loud rattling noises, multiple warning lights illuminated on the dashboard, and the vehicle rapidly lost power. The car began decelerating while still on the highway, creating a dangerous situation. I was unable to maintain speed with surrounding traffic. Had another vehicle been approaching at a higher speed, this sudden loss of power could have resulted in a serious accident. The vehicle was later inspected by a Chevrolet dealership, which confirmed that the engine failed at approximately 77,000 miles. The dealer stated that the engine lifters failed and caused damage to the camshaft, resulting in complete engine failure. This failure occurred without warning and while the vehicle was in motion, presenting a serious safety risk. A sudden engine power loss at highway speeds significantly increases the risk of a collision. I am concerned this may be a defect affecting other vehicles as well.

The oil cooler line was un-lodged from the metal crimp that secures it while I was pulling away causing total loss of all engine oil in a matter of seconds. Not only does the car immediately tell you to turn your car off to avoid catastrophic engine failure, but this is also dangerous for other drivers as the oil may cause a hazard for controlling the vehicle going through the oil.

The truck is a 2019 Chevy silverado 1500 with a 5.3L V8. I have had 2 engine failures since I got this truck. Related to collapsed lifters causing bearing damage and camshaft damage. The first time this happened was around 98k miles. The failure happened while merging onto I95 and matching the highway speed to merge. I believe It is a dangerous defect because when this happened to me while merging the whole truck violently jolted and shook and lost engine power in the middle of the highway. The jolt was violent enough I suspected I got rear ended for a second after regaining control. The second incident happened about a week ago. This time the rebuilt engine failed the same way as before (bearings, lifters and camshaft) but without the dramatic jolt. The rebuilt engine only lasted 12k miles or so. This time the Camshaft is so bent they cannot remove it from the engine and have to replace the whole engine. The engine may be available for inspection but it is currently at a Chevy dealership while they wait for a new engine. Before these failures there was zero warning of the impending issue. Zero warning lights or messages of any kind. Warning lights and messages only appeared after the engine destroyed itself. I also have maintenance records that show routine maintenance was well accounted for.

I am writing to formally express my frustration regarding the ongoing issues with my vehicle. The vehicle continues to overheat, the check engine light repeatedly comes on, and it has cut off unexpectedly. The tire air pressure sensors as well. These issues have persisted despite multiple repair attempts. I initially brought the vehicle to the dealership in December 2024, and again in March 2025 and now the vehicle is having the same issues to date December 2025. On both occasions, the vehicle remained at the dealership for over a month for repairs. Unfortunately, the problem has not been resolved. Each time I inquire, I am given different explanations as to why the issue cannot be fixed, which has been extremely frustrating and concerning. Additionally, I am being charged for services that I do not fully understand or agree with, especially given that the original problem still exists. Due to the lack of resolution, I have also contacted GMC directly to file a formal complaint. At this point, the ongoing delays, lack of clear communication, and unresolved mechanical issues are unacceptable. I requested a clear explanation of all charges, as well as a concrete plan outlining the steps needed to finally fix my vehicle. Please provide the appropriate point of contact and advise on how this issue will be resolved promptly. I expect immediate attention to this matter. Thank you.

On January 28, 2023, my Chevrolet Silverado was involved in a significant multi-impact collision. At the time of the accident, I was a front-seat passenger and my vehicle was fully stopped when it was struck from behind at high speed by a Dodge 2500. The force of the rear impact pushed my truck into the vehicle in front of us, resulting in a secondary front-end collision. This sequence occurred twice. During the collision, the front passenger-side airbag did not deploy, and the front passenger seatbelt failed to lock. As a result, I was thrown violently within the passenger side of the vehicle and struck my head on the dashboard. In contrast, the driver’s seatbelt locked properly, as did the rear seatbelt where my child was seated. Due to the failure of the passenger-side seatbelt to lock, I sustained a severe concussion, a black eye, and other injuries. The vehicle was subsequently inspected by my insurance company. When sheriff’s deputies and state police arrived at the scene, they expressed concern and surprise that the passenger seatbelt did not lock and that no airbags deployed despite the severity of the collision. Shortly after the accident, I contacted GMC regarding these safety concerns. GMC retrieved the vehicle’s Crash Data Recorder (CDR) and conducted an investigation. I was later informed that GMC found no defects or issues with their products. Nearly three years have passed since the accident, and I remain deeply concerned and dissatisfied with GMC’s conclusion.

While driving the engine suffered a catastrophic failure and died. Fortunately I was already coming to a stop when it happened. Had I been traveling at speed I would have been seriously injured or killed along with any other vehicles I may have crashed into. The Chevrolet dealership where vehicle was purchased new confirmed it was a catastrophic failure of the GM L87 engine which has knowingly been fraught with these failures.
