2014 Chevrolet Caprice Police Pursuit

Defect. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Chevrolet SS and Caprice Police Pursuit Vehicles (PPV) that were previously repaired under NHTSA recall number 16V-518. The repair may not have been performed properly. The driver's seat belt tensioner cable may be repeatedly bent over the seat side shield as the driver enters and exits the vehicle causing the cable to fatigue and separate.

Risk. If the tensioner cable separates, the driver may not be properly restrained in the event of a crash, increasing their risk of injury.

Remedy. GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles to determine whether the new seat trim was installed and replace the trim as necessary. Dealers will also inspect and replace the pretensioner cable assembly, as necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began November 17, 2020. Defect. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Chevrolet Caprice Police Pursuit vehicles (PPV), that did not get a replacement steering gear under recalls 17V-265 or 16V-160. The connector between the electric power steering module and the torque sensor may fail, possibly resulting in a loss of electric power steering assist.

Risk. A greater steering effort would be needed to control the vehicle if power steering assist is lost, especially at lower speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the steering gear assembly, replacing any that are not of the approved part numbers, free of charge. The recall began September 23, 2020. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse and Chevrolet Spark EV, Caprice PPV and SS vehicles, 2014-2017 Buick Encore and Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles, 2015-2016 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Trax, Suburban and Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles, and 2015-2017 GMC Sierra HD 2500 and 3500 vehicles. While being previously remedied for recall 16V-651, the affected vehicles may not have received the complete software update necessary to remedy the recall condition. Without the update, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.

Risk. A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.

Remedy. GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2017. The driver's seat belt tensioner cable may be repeatedly bent over the seat side shield as the driver enters and exits the vehicle causing the cable to fatigue and separate.

Defect. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Caprice Police Pursuit Vehicles manufactured May 15, 2013, to March 3, 2016. Corrosion of the connector between the electric power steering module and the torque sensor connector may cause a loss of electric power steering assist.

Risk. A greater steering effort would be needed to control the vehicle if power steering is lost, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gear assembly, free of charge. The recall began on May 11, 2016. The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Caprice Police Pursuit. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the power steering became inoperable and failed to function properly, with the brake assist, power steering, stability control, and tire pressure monitoring system warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact also stated that while the vehicle was parked, an attempt was made to restart the vehicle; however, the vehicle became inoperable, failed to start, and entered Accessory Mode only. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 139,576.

THE AIRBAG FAULT CODE KEEPS POPPING UP ON THE DASH BOARD. WHEN THE CODE IS READ, IT SAYS THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG SENOR HAS A FAULT. SAME MAKE AND MODEL OF MY CAR HAS THE SAME FAULT AND THE RECALL EXPLAINS MY EXACT PROBLEM OF MY CAR. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD ME I HAD TO PAY JUST TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM OF MY CAR WAS. THEN PAY EVEN MORE TO HAVE THE CAR FIX. BECAUSE THE RECALL DOESN'T COVER MY CAR. EVEN IF IT SHOWING THE SAME ISSUE. THE REASON I HAVE FOUND OUT TO BE THE PROBLEM, WHENEVER I DRIVE THE CAR. THE FAULT CODE DOESN'T POP UP TILL THE WIFE SITS IN THE SEAT. THEN THE LIGHT IS POPPING UP EVERY 3 TO 5 MINUTES. IT ALMOST LIKE A LOSE WIRE BUT I HAVE TRY TO MOVE ALL WIRES AND CHECK THE SENOR AND CAN NEVER GET IT TO FAULT TILL SOMEONE SIT IN THE SEAT. THEN THE PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG INDICATOR SAYS THE AIRBAG IS OFF AND NOT ON. I AM WORRY FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY AND I LOVE THE CAR. BUT DON'T WANT TO PUT THEM IN HARM WAY. ALSO AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE, IT ASK FOR A DATE. IT HAPPENS EVERY DAY!

WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE LOOSES POWER STEERING, HAS RPM'S BUT NO TRANSMISSION, HAVE TO PULL OFF ROAD SHUT VEHICLE OFF TO RESET. CONDITION HAPPENS MORE OFTEN AS TIME GOES ON

VEHICLE JUST OUTSIDE OF FACTORY WARRANTY AT 40K MILES INTERMITTENTLY LOSES POWER STEERING AND GETS A SERVICE STEERING SYSTEM MESSAGE. PER THE VIN THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE SO I TOOK IT TO PETERSON GM @ 12300 FAIRVIEW AVE. BOISE. JOHN ASH IN SERVICE CALLED AND SAID IT NEEDS A NEW STEERING GEAR AND THAT IT WILL COST ABOUT $2500.00. I ARGUED THAT THE RECALL STATES UNDER REMEDY "FOR VEHICLES IN THE FIELD, DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY." THEY STATE THAT THE RECALL ALSO STATES UNDER STATUS "REMEDY NOT AVAILABLE YET." AND THEY ARE NOT AUTHORIZED BY GM TO COVER THE COST. I CALLED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE @ 1-800-222-1020 ON 03-22-16 AND SPOKE WITH TAYLOR. SHE ALSO CONFIRMED THAT THE REPAIR WILL NOT BE COVERED BY GM AT THIS TIME. I AM HESITANT TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR BECAUSE IT APPEARS THAT I WOULD BE PURCHASING THE SAME GEAR GM IS ADMITTING TO HAVING A HIGH FAILURE RATE WITH.
