THE FAILED COMPONENT WAS THE PARKING LIGHT RELAY, BMW PART #61-31-1-378-052 - THE FAILURE MANIFESTED ITSELF BY THE PARKING LIGHTS (FRONT AND REAR) FAILING INTERMITTANTLY FOR A NUMBER OF MONTHS UNTIL PROBLEM DIAGNOSED - CAUSED A CONCERN FOR SAFETY, ESPECIALLY FROM THE REAR AT NIGHT. FROM BMW INTERNET WEB SITES, THIS IS A VERY COMMON FAILURE ON THEIR CARS.
VEHICLE WAS REAR ENDED, DRIVERS SEAT WAS SLIGHTLY TWISTED AND THE POWER ADJUSTER FAILED CAUSING THE SEAT TO ROCK BACKWARDS ON THE REAR MOUNTS, RESULTING IN THE DRIVER SLIDING OUT OF THE SEAT INTO THE REAR SEAT AND SUFFERING A COMPRESSIVE FRACTURE TO THE NECK. *ET
