Rear coil spring on passenger side broke and became detached, wedging against lower control arm. Coil spring had no signs of other damage; seems to be defective metallurgy. While there was no immediate safety issue, a broken spring during driving could cause the operator to lose control. Additionally, unless you heard it break, there is no way to know that it is broken and under additional stress which is an ongoing safety concern. There was no warning that the spring would break or had broken. Others have reported hearing loud "pops" when the spring breaks. From online search, there seems to be a high number of Audi Q7's from 2017-2019 model years with this problem, but Audi dealers claim it is a 'normal wear' item and is not covered."

The vehicle intermittently but repeatedly reports a "Front Side Marker Light Defective" error despite there being no visible issue with any of the front lights. Sometimes the error will not appear for days, while other times it repeatedly comes on and turns off, each time making a loud chime and displaying the warning message, again despite no change in the lighting. The quoted rate to repair this issue is around $5,000, which is an enormous amount to fix an issue that is not actually affecting the lighting in any way. The error itself is very distracting, but the only reasonable workarounds seem to be ways to disable those lights entirely, which would create its own safety issues.

Right side marker defective keeps coming on when headlight turns on. The light works fine but Audi wants to charge over 4K to replace headlamp. Audi stated it’s tiny bulb on side to fix, I have to replace entire headlamp. This is an electrical issue that lot of Audi Q7 owners have reported and I shouldn’t be liable to fix a defective issue.

Repeated & Distracting dashboard warning for "Front Left Side Marker Light Defective." Instead of merely replacing a bulb, Audi requires a $2500+ headlight housing to be replaced. Problem confirmed by both independent shop and Audi dealership. Many Audi owners have found ways to deactive the side lights, dimishing safety, or they have to endure the distraction of an alert on the dash EVERY 20 SECONDS. This issue needs to be added to the existing Audi recall 97CD or NHTSA campaign ID 16V642000

Right side marker light is getting repeated warnings despite headlight working fine. Repair options are either over $4K or disabling the marker light which is much less expensive but reduces safety. I and many others will be opting to disable the light, reducing safety. Audi should issue a recall for this defective marker light that includes additional VINs.

I am receiving dashboard warning error "Front right side marker light defective" when headlights are in use. The warning occurs when headlights are on and intermittently illuminates with a beep warning sound. It can happen every few seconds or every few minutes. It is very annoying. This problem started when the car was around 82,000 miles. The same thing happened on the OTHER side of the car around 72,000 miles, with the "Front LEFT side marker light defective" warning appearing. At that time the car was still under extended warranty (which expired at 80,000 miles) and the Audi dealer diagnosed the LEFT side problem as a "defective headlight assembly." The dealer replaced the headlight assembly at a cost of $3655 which was covered by the extended warranty. Now, with the extended warranty elapsed, the problem is happening on the RIGHT side. Online research shows very high numbers of 2017 Audi Q7 owners complaining about this issue. Audi recall 97CB (NHTSA 16V642000) exists for this issue but Audi only applied it to some 2017 model year VINs. My 2017 Q7 VIN is not included. It should be. Clearly this issue is rampant in this model+year combination, and owners should not have to spend thousands of dollars for it to be repaired.

You have a safety recall #16V-642 for this model and the dealer did not put my vin# in the recall but yet my vehicle is saying the the left and right side marker lights are defective and the dealer will not correct it, instead they are trying to make me pay to replace the entire light harness for both head light assembly for $4,000, my next stop is with a class action law suit to get this taken up. I am wondering how many people with these cars have paid to replace their lights when apparently it’s just a software update but you cannot get the dealers to do it because in their computers Audi did not enter all the vin numbers affected by this recall. I am asking for your help in this situation since you have the recall.

I never received an recall for this issue below and my vehicle is having this problem. My safety is being put at risk due to this. Please help. I'm requesting this recall to reimburse for costs of repair which is $5100.00. Recall no. 16V642000 Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2016 TT roadster, A3 cabriolet, A3 sedan and A3 e-tron, 2016-2017 TT coupe, 2017 A4 sedan and Q7 and 2015-2017 Q3 vehicles. The affected vehicles may have been programmed with new software that inadvertently makes the side marker lights inoperative in conjunction with the parking lights or the headlights. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment." Recall consequence If the side marker lights do not illuminate, the vehicle may be less visible at night, increasing the risk of a crash. Recall action Audi will notify owners, and dealers will upload revised software to correct the issue, free of charge. This recall began November 2016. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 97CB.

I was driving on the freeway at 60 MPH when pushing on the gas pedal, the Audi Q7 2017 started to de-accelerate from 60 - 30 and then went lower. The gas pedal then locked while still on a lane on the freeway and luckily I was able to quickly move to the shoulder of the freeway. From there my car proceeded to not start and kept flashing low battery, telling me to put it into drive. I could not put it into drive to start the car. There were NO WARNINGS as the car lost speed on the freeway and a mechanic has determined it is the fuel pump. This was a very scary incident as my two young children and dog were in the car and if I hadn't been able to move to the side quickly, we would have been stopped in the middle of a busy city freeway. Additionally, it took a tow truck two hours to reach us. I keep my car well maintained with service.

Power steering assistance unit stoped working suddenly while driving. Then car was very difficult to steer. Fault could not be reseted, unit was not accessible with service computer in Audi shop. The steering unit was replaced. Just by luck that did not happen while driving at high speed. This could have been resulting in crash with casualties. While browsing the internet for advice it shows multiple incidents with the Audi electric powered steering unit. In the attached pic’s it shows a wet rubber seal and a corroded drive shaft of the replaced part (note the part numbers). Water and oil can find its way into the resolver unit and render it useless, cause lost of feedback signal hence kill the unit. Additional observation: Month before this incident happen, while driving at low speed in warmer/hot environment, a stepper motor feeling was noticeable on the steering wheel. Also a sound can be heared similar to rubber scratches over a dry surface. The disturbance went away when the car cooled down for some hours. It would be advisable to investigate the issue further as the consequences of loss if steering power could be very serious. Wishing everyone a safe travel.

After driving it off the lot, minutes later I get a message "Front left side marker light defective. See owner's manual". We purchased a 2017 Q7 with low milage. At around 75k miles the engine started consuming oil every 1,200 miles, when previously it never required an oil change before the regularly scheduled service. The dealer always said "that is 'in spec'". This went on for over a year. Then, when we were driving cross-country for thanksgiving in 2022, the engine made a major concussive noise and we lost power while driving on the freeway at around 70mph. This almost caused a high speed collision. It was winter and we had the entire family in the car. we took it to the dealership, and the service tech recommended a compression test and borescope. No carbon build-up was found. Pressure was 'ok' in all cylinders. There were codes showing a fuel injector misfire, so the dealer recommended replacing all of them. The repair was done, but we've continued to have excessive oil consumption, the engine continues to run rough, and we occasionally get 'drive system malfunction' errors. When driving cross country in sub-freezing winter weather, last week, the engine lost power again. I stopped at the nearest Audi service center two hours later, and the tech found that the spark plugs had significant carbon fouling. Spark plugs were replaced. Engine continues to consume too much oil. Based on my research, it appears that this is a known issue, with several class action lawsuits. The Q7 does not appear to be part of these suits (yet), but there are posts and forums all over the internet with owners repo

2017 AUdi Q7 shares the same rear coil springs with the Volkwagen Atlas. There has already been a recall for the Atlas (18V-904), but none for the same issue with the Audi Q7. Volkswagen Atlas vehicles included in this recall may been manufactured with rear coil springs of certain production batches using a material that does not meet specifications as well as rear coil springs from production batches made with Vanadium material from one subsupplier with incorrect process parameters. The potentially affected vehicles were identified by tracking suspected parts batches using this material. The affected VINs are not sequential since some batches were built using correct raw material.

I brought in my car to Audi of Peabody for routine service at approximately 62,000 miles. I was told both rear coil springs were broken. The car, purchased new in July 2017 has been routinely serviced at the dealership. There were no warnings on the vehicle. The dealer said this is a common failure for the Q7 and not covered by warranty or recalls. Checking user message boards of other owners with Audi Q7, apparently this is very common and seems potentially to be a faulty component. I have owned many vehicles for extended periods of time (more than 7 years each) and this is the first car that I'm told is a common failure. Sudden suspension failure appears to be a safety hazard.

The next day (08/13/2023), after halting at a traffic light and accelerating when the light turned green, a loud pop was heard from the rear of the vehicle. And the vehicle was unable to move forward or backward while the engine was running. The vehicle has been towed to the Audi dealer in Chantilly, Virginia. All bolts connecting drive shaft found sheared off in rear differential flange. Initially the service team tried to extract broken bolts and replace bolts and gasket to reconnect drive-shaft. When driving into a dimly lit area the car rings and displays the message front left side marker defective. The warning stays on for some time and then goes away before returning again. This continued for a few weeks. The car then experienced a full electrical system malfunction, doors unlocking and locking randomly while driving before dinging repeatedly with multiple warnings displayed in the dash and then stalled in the middle of the road. The vehicle would not shift into park. Multiple warnings continued to ding and flash in the dash. After being turned off for 20 minutes the car was able to be started shifted into Drive and driven with no warnings displayed. The car was taken to the dealership for diagnostics which were performed, but with no electrical system malfunction displayed. The left side marker warning was still on, but the dealer said there was no fix for this. The following month the car was taken for 60,000 mile service. At this time the dealer advised the fix for left side market was replacing the entire headlamp fixture. The service was declined. When the vehicle left the dealer the cruise control was on and would not turn off. After turning off the car and turning it back on the cruise control was off. After driving a short distance the speed control warning dinged and displayed and the cruise control was back on. The orange engine light was also displayed although there was no written warning for this.

On my way to drop my child off at school, I stopped to refuel my Audi Q7. Upon inserting the nozzle to refuel the car, gasoline immediately began jetting out of the fuel door before the auto-shutoff kicked in, covering myself as well as my vehicle. Thankfully, the hot exhaust did not ignite the liquid or fuel vapor potentially causing a deadly fire. Despite having no fuel remaining, I was able to take the vehicle to our local mechanic where they discovered a TSB denoting this specific issue. The TSB was initially released 04/28/2016 for Model Year 2017 Audi Q7s. It was subsequently updated to include Model Year 2018 Q7s as well. This is a documented factory safety defect that denotes if this issue is to occur, to replace the whole fuel tank. Further research shows that a valve inside the non-wear, non-serviceable fuel filler neck can become dislodged and nearly completely block the filler neck from accepting fuel. This can cause a potential safety issue as the result of this blockage, the vehicle as well as driver can become doused in gasoline before a pump's auto-shutoff can kick in due to the shallow depth of the fault. The problem is known and documented as being an issue nearly immediately after the Model Year 2017 Q7 line was released. There was no prior warning or indication that this could occur at any time filling the vehicle.

I researched and noticed that there's been a lot of complaints on forums for 2017 Audi Q7 3.0 for coolant leak cause by the water pump, which always needs replacement. The replacement costs by AUDI are upwards of US $1300. This issue seems like a regular pattern and can cause an engine failure. AUDI should take responsibility and fix these cars.

Hello. Campaign Number 16V642000 needs to be expanded to include the full range of VINs manufactured for all the 2017 Audi Q7 model year(s). This vehicle reports a side marker light malfunction, but the VIN is not included in the Audi recall. There are numerous complaints on the NHTSA website itself, and even more across various Internet forums to warrant NHTSA investigation. The continued delay by NHTSA not to investigate the need to expand the range of VINs covered under this recall, allows a safety issue to continue to go uncorrected by the manufacturer and therefore unnecessarily and negligently increases the risk of crash for countless motorists.

Reading these

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
