Defect. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CLASS 8 HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS. THE AIR SUSPENSION CONTROL VALVE SUPPLY LINE WAS NOT PLUMBED THROUGH AN AIR PRESSURE PROTECTION VALVE. IN THE EVENT OF A FAILURE, THERE WOULD BE LOSS OF AIR PRESSURE IN THE 'B' SYSTEM AIR RESERVOIR THAT SUPPLIES AIR PRESSURE FOR THE FRONT STEER AXLE BRAKES.

Risk. THIS CONDITION WOULD RESULT IN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES.

Remedy. DEALERS WILL INSTALL THE NECESSARY AIR PRESSURE PROTECTION VALVE.

Defect. THE PINCH BOLT USED TO RETAIN THE PITMAN ARM TO THE STEERING GEAR MAY NOT MEET THE HEAT TREAT SPECIFICATION FOR A GRADE 8 FASTENER AND MAY STRIP BEFORE PROPER TORQUE IS ACHIEVED.

Risk. THE PINCH BOLT MAY FAIL CAUSING SEPARATION OF THE PITMANARM AND THE STEERING LINKAGE, AND LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL WHICH COULD RESULTIN AN ACCIDENT.

Remedy. REPLACE THE PINCH BOLTS WITH PROPERLY HEAT TREATED BOLTS.
