A squirrel entered my ID.4 through the right wheel well while I was at work and it began to make a nest in the front of my engine compartment. I was alerted to the problem by all of the dashboard warning lights flashing the ACC and related front safety systems. The squirrel had chewed through the harness wires down to the connectors on the 8 and 9 connectors and the 6 pin connector. I know it was a squirrel because I saw it in the engine compartment when I opened the hood and other coworkers had nests in their hood areas. No damage to thier vehicle because the critical wires were not so carelessly exposed.

Even after the 919A recall fix was applied for the restarting black screen, my ID4 screens are still restarting. This has happened twice when I get in the car and power it on.

VW failed to perform the repairs associated with recall 24V651 because the necessary parts are not available despite months of leadtime. It costs me $80 each time I bring my car in. It is currently at the dealership and they have no eta for the parts.
When in the lowest position the seat has lots of vertical play to it. This can be felt when accelerating and braking, especially when braking or accelerating hard. The seat also makes loud creaking noises in the same conditions, at random intervals. These issues have been reproduced at the dealer, but I was told "not to keep my seat in the lowest position" which is my ideal driving position for maneuvering the vehicle and having adequate view of the mirrors and outside the vehicle. The seat has not been inspected by a service technician, only the service representative in a visual manner. No physical action has been taken to remedy the problem. It is also worth noting the passenger seat does not exhibit this issue. The creaking combined with the excess movement in the seat have me concerned for my safety in the event of a crash or emergency maneuver. Should the seat come loose, I could lose control of the vehicle, putting mine, and others', safety at risk. No warning lamps, tones or other symptoms have occurred.

We have found that the carseat belt is fraying at the base of the seat rendering this seat unusable as it would not keep our daughter safe in the event of an accident. We have attempted to work with the manufacturer on a resolution for this defect however they will not take responsibility and claim that it is due to 'external environmental factors' but cannot provide a single example of what would have caused this. It appears that the belt is rubbing on the seat base when in use which resulted in the fraying. We have taken excellent care of the seat, use it properly, have have had it inspected upon install by a CPS technician. This is a clear defect and would like Evenflo to honor their warranty and take action on this defect. A quick search found that other parents have experienced this exact issue which is concerning as Evenflo had been made aware of multiple families impacted and even more babies using an unsafe product.

While driving between 45-50 mph the internment cluster went out and the center console did a reboot. I could not see the odometer and the brake worked but the excoriator did not seem as responsive as it normally is. This issues has occurred 2 other times and was taken to VW for service. There has also been instances of the car lunging forward spontaneously usually in a drive through or close follow traffic conditions. The technician said we needed to record it happening.

My dealership, Westside VW in St. Louis Park, MN, has not completed my recalls in a reasonable amount of time. I scheduled an appointment two months ago to get this done and they canceled it the day before saying "they didn't have the parts." They said they'd call when the parts were in stock, approximately 1-2 weeks. That was 2 months ago and absolutely no communication from them.

On [XXX], our 2023 VW ID.4 Pro S which kept breaking down during our Vegas trip. It’s still under manufacturer warranty. 17,931 miles, VIN # [XXX] . We got home around 10:30 PM on July 7th after leaving Vegas before noontime, EV battery overheated in the 120 degrees heat at Baker and 112 degrees temperature at Barstow and couldn’t be driven until battery cooled hours later after each stop. It was a complete nightmare with my poor wife and kids in that super hot weather. Thank you. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
My car has experience Phantom braking 3 times. The automated braking system unexpectedly activated while I was driving out of my driveway and on to the street. There were no cars on the road when it happened. Another time it happened while I was backing out of my garage. It unexpectedly slammed the brakes. It is very scary when it happens because the body ricochets and it startles you and the car goes into park mode. The third time happened while I was driving in a crowded parking lot. I was moving like 5 miles an hour very slowly and it activated the automated braking system, there was a car behind me and I almost got rear ended. I just hope it doesn’t happen to me while I am driving on the freeway. I will be a very dangerous outcome.
As I described via various work orders to VW Centennial service since 05-15-2024 (5 service orders ago). I am seriously concerned about the sensor ability to prevent and effectively work when needed. Today, 02-26-2025 I am documenting a clear scenario where ACC failed. On Freeway 215 driving 60 MPG with ACC engaged. Traffic on the freeway came to a standstill, the ACC engaged and stopped my ID4 from 55 MPH. This is the ideal outcome. However it failed few moments later. ACC showed ready when at standstill. When traffic resumed, ID4 accelerated to commensurate with the traffic at 25mph and ACC kept on par with the car ahead which is intended with the ideal distance. 5 seconds later, cars stopped again. This is where ACC should have stopped my ID4. However it did NOT. ACC did not stop my ID4 only to find myself facing a red collision alert second later within car length away. Had to hit the brakes hard and swerve to avoid collision with the car in front. I was led into a false sense of security as ACC worked minutes prior. This is not the first time ACC failed, and based on my accounting, it only works ¾ times. Even failure to engage ¼ times this can result in a serious collision. Many times I’ve discussed with the service asking them to replicate the same issue reported here. I also gave service exact scenarios where this happened. ACC also consistently fails 100% on highway off-ramps as the sensor does not see off-ramp barriers. As such you can always find ID4 ACC acceleratin
Documented iPhone and Infotainment system not functioning with hands free. This results in key safety feature which I bought the ID4 for. Prior VW service claims this is user error and cannot reproduce. On 2-24-25, I was able to show service manager and tech the consistent problem. Tech used 3 differing iPhones and 3 differing cables without any resolution to why this happens in all phones and cables. Waiting for VW Corporate to approve new Infotainment replacement.
My recent safety recall has been resolved by dealer for the software and door locks . Can you go-ahead and clear it from your end.
The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact stated that upon shifting into reverse(R), the display screen shut off, and occasionally the screen restarted; however, the failure sporadic. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that no failure was found with the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 4,194.
Loud audible drive shaft noise usually found on a turn or after hitting a pothole. Dealership has not been able to identify and remedy the problem after 2 attempts on 12-27-24 and 1-3-25. Researching into this matter, I found many others in the community with these same problems (Reddit, VW User group, Facebook VW ID4 user group). I typed into the Google AI for why this problem exists, and it clearly shows this is an axle design flaw that cannot accommodate the weight of the car. I've attached this screenshot for your review. Concerned about a complete drive shaft failure causing an accident and injuries. VW not been able to resolve the problem for 2 months is another point of concern.
I was easing into a parking spot and braking when the car suddenly and uncontrollablly accelerated, leveling a light pole in front of me and finally coming to a stop on top of the light pole base
After NHTSA 919A been applied for my VW ID4, NHTSA Recall ID Number 24V875 was not properly addressed. 1 week after the recall completed by Centenial VW, I still have computer crash and blackout in the main dash and infotainment systems. I've shown these photos to David Lucero at Centenial VW service and he claims it was done properly. Attached is the photos.
I was driving with Travel Assis on, the car steered left into the center divider then swerved right into other lanes… I was unable to regain control of steering wheel or break to deactivate travel assist for about 10 seconds, the steering wheel felt stuck in the direction that Travel Assist was steering to.
While driving using the VW Travel Assist (lane keeping) system, the vehicle was unable to "see" the lane markings and Travel Assist disconnected. When this happens the display of the lanes changes from green to gray, but there is no warning. In the case where i was traveling about 30 MPH it took less than a second for the vehicle to steer off the road. The Adaptive Cruise Control remained engaged as the Travel Assist disengaged. Considering that VW has programmed in white and red warnings plus a sound to require the driver to control steering about every 10 seconds it seems to be minor addition to trigger those warning lights and sound if the Travel Assist disengages.
I've had to replace the 12v battery in my ID.4 due to battery failure twice since I've owned it, and according to the service department at VW, the battery was replaced on delivery too. So that's a total of three batteries since it came off the production line. I'm also having issues with my doors handles not working properly and haven't been able to have the open recall performed on my vehicle due to backordered parts. It's been more than 6 months since the issue started and I still don't have any updates. The infotainment screen randomly blanks out while driving and is especially problematic when I'm backing the car up because the backup camera cuts out and is a huge safety issue. Lastly, the windows roll down when I press up on the switch which has caused a bunch of issues when driving in snow/rain. I was told it is due to an overly sensitive pinch monitor system and that there's no fix for it. All in all, I don't feel like I can trust the car and definitely don't feel safe driving it.

The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V651000 (Structure); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 - 20 MPH, the passenger’s side rear door unlocked and became slightly opened. The door closed from the momentum while driving; however, the contact pulled over to the side of the road and inspected the door and found no visible defects. The door was automatically locked and secured. Additionally, the infotainment screen was black while reversing and activating the back-over prevention camera. The contact also stated that the back-over prevention camera erroneously activated and remained displayed for an additional 10 - 15 minutes after the vehicle had been shifted into drive(D). The contact stated that the mileage had decreased significantly from 220 to 150 miles and the vehicle failed to display the level of charge for the battery. The dealer was contacted and was unable to provide an estimate for when parts for the recall repair would be available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 12,800. Parts distribution disconnect.
My ID.4 was repaired to address the recall for the infotainment system rebooting (NHTSA recall number 24V344). Shortly after this repair i experienced two infotainment screen blackouts, one of which was recorded on video. These blackouts are not the system reboots that caused the recall (I experienced several of those between June and December 2024). In this case the map portion of the screen blacks out and is not responsive to any touch. this restricts use of navigation, reverse video for parking, and many other functions.
After just under 31K thousand miles of vehicle use, the rear drive motor began making a "clunking" sound upon each braking to a full stop, and again upon accelerating. The local dealer diagnosed the noise as coming from the rear electric drive motor. The technician consulted with Volkswagen "tech-line" personnel, who advised the local dealership to replace the rear drive motor under warranty, which they did approximately two weeks later. The noise no longer occurs.
I am writing to express my growing concern regarding ongoing issues with my vehicle, specifically related to the recalls. Over the past year or two, I have contacted both the Libertyville and Palatine, Illinois dealerships numerous times for updates, but I have not received any meaningful responses or resolutions. Despite my repeated requests for repairs, I have been informed that the repairs cannot be made due to a national shortage. As a parent of two infants, I find the issues with the disappearing display and malfunctioning locks to be extremely dangerous. These safety concerns pose a significant risk to my family, and I urge you to prioritize this matter and provide a timely solution. I would greatly appreciate any updates on the availability of the necessary parts and an expedited repair process
The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V651000 (Structure); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was an audible unlocking sound coming from the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that on one occasion, the front driver’s side door independently opened while at a complete stop. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue but was unable to schedule an immediate appointment. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that parts were on backorder. The failure mileage was approximately 16,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
Malfunctioning electrical and software in the vehicle. Vehicle's speedometer gauge display will occasionally go blank while driving. Longest video recorded event was 15 minutes of continuous operation with no displays on the speedometer or the infotainment screens. Infotainment system will also periodically reset. Dealer has tried many times to fix the issue, replacing infotainment screen multiple times and other control modules. At one point the infotainment system was resetting every 5 mins on the dot. Having issues with the backup camera staying on as well. Many times it will not be on steady, flickering on and off while in reverse. First reported occurance at 10,000
Two problems. 1) the infotainment module cuts in and out. 2) Most important, the vehicle lunged ahead for no reason from a dead stop. We were lucky not to hit the truck in front of us. The vehicle is not safe to drive. VW corporate doesn't answer their phone and the dealer keeps giving us 800 numbers to try to contact them. What can we do?

The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated while driving on the highway at 55 MPH, the instrument panel became inoperable, and the vehicle independently started to decelerate. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and had the vehicle towed to the local dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the failure was related to the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. Parts distribution disconnect.
The vehicle has been inspected multiple times and had several software updates to fix the infotainment system. Unfortunately, the system still malfunctions restarting all the controls in the vehicle while driving. When this happens, the speedometer is unable to be accessed and driving becomes unsafe.
The OEM heated windshield has a relatively common defect where there is extreme distortion in the glass along the passenger side edge of the windshield. This is obviously a safety issue because that area is key for visibility of pedestrians and bicyclists and other vehicles when making turns. The vehicle is currently at the dealer pending repair with no updates.
For the second time in this car, I experienced sudden acceleration while parking (turning right). I had to slam the brakes to prevent hitting a parked vehicle, causing whiplash. No warning or safety features engaged. See NHTSA crash incident report 11593929. There are sufficient similar reports to warrant an investigation and hold VW accountable.
High speed sidewall blowout @ 70 mph. Right rear passenger tire. Less than 6000 miles. Had same issue on left rear tire at z out 5,000 miles in august 2024. I paid $1000 out of pocket in Rhode Island because local dealer did not have a replacement tire in stock and i could not wait as my vacation was ending. I sm afraid yo drive this car..
- The door handles do not open on most occasions when there are passengers in the back seats. It is available for inspection. - I cannot get the passengers out and that is a risk in any situation when I need to open these doors. - Yes, the dealership confirmed that this issue is part of the door handle recall (NHTSA #24V651). - It has not been inspected by others outside of friends and family. The dealership said that because there is no solution, there is nothing they can do about it and therefore it doesn't need to be brought in. - No warning lamps, etc.
The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact stated while the contact's husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact stated that several warning lights illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power. The contact allowed the vehicle to stop before restarting the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that parts were not available. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V344000 (Back Over Prevention, Equipment, Electrical System); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. I was backing my 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 into my very tight driveway very slowly to avoid hitting my other car parked on the street, my house and my neighbors house. The parking collision sensor alerted me that I was close to my other car but I can see out my window that I had room to clear it safely so I continued to back into my driveway at about 1 mile an hour. All of a sudden, my car made a click click noise as it lurched back and forth and then the car took over control and drove into my house about 20-30 feet at maybe 20 mph (not sure exactly but pretty fast) and crashed into my house and my neighbors house/gate. I pumped the brakes 2-3x but they did not work and the car continued driving into my house at that fast speed. I remember thinking omg, the car is not going to stop until it hit the house. No collision sensors went off during the automatic reverse acceleration and no manual nor auto emergency brakes were employed. Even though I pressed the brakes 2-3x, the ring video did not show brake lights (which isn't a surprise since they did not activate). There was a man that just walked his dog behind my car a minute before my car accelerated backwards. He would have been hit at 20mph 2 feet from my car. He is an eye witness to the incident and agreed that this was no way human error. If it were human error and I had accidentally pressed the acceleration pedal, I wouldn't have gone that fast on my super tight driveway and street and I also would have had plenty of time to
While driving the vehicles safety features automatically turn off and the screens in the car go blank and then come back on after a few minutes. When we contacted the dealer and the manufacturer we were told there was no fix and to just pull over and restart the car. The dealer told us to treat it like a cell phone that isn’t working and just turn it off and turn it back on.
The vehicle’s door handle malfunctioned twice, causing a door to open unexpectedly while driving at normal speeds. Small children were present as passengers during one of these incidents, increasing the risk of injury had the door opened fully or had another driver reacted suddenly to the open door. There were no warning lamps, audible alerts, or error messages before these occurrences. The handles and related components remain installed and could be made available for inspection upon request. Additionally, the dashboard display occasionally goes blank or glitches, making it impossible to read speed, warning indicators, or other critical information while driving. This issue occurs intermittently and does not seem to follow any specific pattern. No visible warning lamps or messages appear before the display malfunctions. These problems have been reported to an authorized dealer, who acknowledged known defects but indicated that no repairs or remedies are currently available. To date, the issues have not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or other third parties, apart from the dealer’s acknowledgment. Without a functioning remedy, these malfunctions continue to present a safety concern, especially with young passengers onboard and limited access to essential driving information due to the dashboard failures.
My ID.4 charging function is not working as it has has in the past: 1. the "plug to charge" function at Electrify America (uses the vehicle VIN to automatically activate the charging session and payment) worked previously and now does not work. I have attempted it at 14 different stations at two different locations of EA today (and it has not been working for the past few charging sessions at EA). 2. charging cable should automatically unlock when charging is complete (it is setup that way in the car and has worked in the past). To release requires pressing the unlock button on the remote 3 times or pull the manual release cord in the trunk of the car. 3. charging rates are abnormally low...about 70 kWh when the car usually charges at 100-160 kWh rate my concern is that the "CP" terminal and/or communications channel is faulty and could cause a serious error in charging rate, voltage or over-charging resulting in a fire or explosion, since that terminal controls those functions as well as "plug to charge". thus far i have not received sufficient response from the manufacturer's dealer on this issue (i do not believe they have the equipment to adequately test the physical connector on the car or the communications data stream).

The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The dealer was contacted. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH, the vehicle lost power. The main control panel blacked out and the contact was unable to accelerate. The contact coasted to the side of the road and the vehicle regained power and was able to continue driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that a software update was needed; however, update was unavailable. The failure occurred approximately 15 more times while driving at various speeds. There were no warning lights illuminated. Additionally, the front passenger’s door made a clicking sound and slightly opened while driving approximately 30 MPH and had to be manually closed. The contact also stated that the door ajar light illuminated and remained illuminated despite pulling over and properly closing the door. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the software update needed to be performed. The software update was not performed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 4,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The rear passenger side door unlocked on its own . The display screen goes blank for approx 10-15 seconds while driving .
On December 4, 2024, I left a Volkswagen ID.4 electric car in for service of Volkswagen due to software and door locking issues. The service manager confirmed the problems but stated that the vehicle has not yet received any repairs from Volkswagen and that there is no solution available. I have been given ongoing, negligent responses, such as being told that the only option is to buy another car or that there is nothing they can do. 1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The software system and door locking mechanism are malfunctioning. Both issues are related to unrepairable recalls from Volkswagen. The software issues are causing electrical faults, stopping problems, and unsafe braking performance. The door locking issue prevents proper functionality, likely due to a malfunction in the locking system, which also impacts the security and safety of the vehicle. The car is experiencing significant issues related to software, electrical faults, stopping problems, and, most concerning, unsafe brakes. These issues present a serious safety risk. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The brake system has become unsafe due to electrical and software failures, which could result in an inability to stop the vehicle properly or in a timely manner, presenting a significant safety hazard. Additionally, the malfunctioning door locks compromise the vehicle's security, which could lead to unauthorized acce

What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
