2017 Vanleigh Vilano

Defect. Vanleigh RV (Vanleigh) is recalling certain 2015-2019 Vilano and Beacon fifth wheel recreational trailers. The suspension shackles may be too short, causing them to fail.

Risk. Failure of the suspension shackle may cause a loss of control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Vanleigh will notify owners, and dealers will replace the existing shackles with longer ones, free of charge. The recall began August 30, 2019. Owners may contact Vanleigh customer service at 1-662-612-4040.

Defect. VanLeigh RV (VanLeigh) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Vilano fifth-wheel recreational trailers. Because the winch that supports the spare tire may not be properly fastened to the trailer, the trailer's spare tire could fall off while unit is in motion.

Risk. If the spare tire falls off while the unit is in motion, it may increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy. VanLeigh will notify owners, and dealers will secure the spare tire winch with the correct fasteners, free of charge. The recall began on July 10, 2017. Owners may contact VanLeigh customer service at 1-662-612-4040. VanLeigh's number for this recall is VL-101.

Defect. VanLeigh RV (VanLeigh) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Vilano fifth-wheel recreational trailers, models 325RL and 365RL. These vehicles have a Federal Placard that indicates incorrect tire and load range information, possibly resulting in the vehicle being overloaded. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."

Risk. If the vehicle is overloaded it can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy. VanLeigh will notify owners and will send them a corrected Federal Placard label, free of charge. The recall began on April 20, 2017. Owners may contact VanLeigh customer service at 1-662-612-4040.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-450 equipped with a 2017 Vanleigh RV. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 50 MPH, and going over train tracks she observed abnormal shaking. The contact stated that a friend following the RV observed both right wheels smoking. The vehicle was steered to the side of the road and a mobile RV tech diagnosed the RV with frame damage and broken spring. The RV was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the frame was bent and was totaled. The dealer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

THE ELECTRIC HOT WATER HEATER FAILED. AN INSPECTOR OF THE UNIT SAID THAT IT WAS A WONDER THE FAILURE DID NOT CAUSE A FIRE. THIS IS A 2017 VAN LEIGH VILANO 375RL 5TH WHEEL RECREATIONAL VEHICLE IN WHICH WE LIVE.

LARGE NUMBER OF VANLEIGH VILANO OWNERS ARE REPORTING ISSUES WITH THE SPRING LEAF SUSPENSION, WITH MAJOR BREAKS IN THE STEEL AND LINKAGE BETWEEN THE SPRINGS. APPEARS TO BE A DEFECT IN THE STEEL USED IN PRODUCING THESE SPRING LEAFS. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN REAPPEARING WITH THE 2017 VANLEIGH VILANO MODEL 365RL

LEAF SPRING BROKE. ON HIGHWAY TRAVELING AND NOTICED WHEELS NO RIGHT ON TRAILER . STOPPED AND TIRES ON DOUBLE AXLE WERE TOUCHING. UNDERNEATH SAW LEAF SPRING BROKE . WEIGHT OF TRAILER IS OVER THE 7000 LB SPRINGS ON SUSPENSION . LIPPERT MFG WILL SEND REPAIR OUT TO REPLACE. ROAD REPAIR TOLD US HE HAS REPLACED SEVERAL OF SAME RECENTLY DUE TO THE SPRING IS TOO SHORT . LUCKY WE DIDN'T FLIP AND INJURIES SUSTAINED.

7-WAY CORD INCLUDING BRAKES ARE FUSED OFF OF THE CIRCUIT BREAKER. WHEN BREAK AWAY IS ACTIVATED IT CAN BLOW THIS 20 AMP FUSE AND TERMINATE THE POWER TO THE 7-WAY CORD AND BREAK AWAY. IN A BREAK AWAY SITUATION FROM THE TOW VEHICLE THIS WOULD CAUSE THE BREAK AWAY SWITCH TO NOT ACTIVATE AND NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. I AM A TECHNICIAN AT AN RV DEALERSHIP AND NOTICED THIS. I CALLED VAN LEIGH AND ASKED WHY THEY DID THIS AND HAVE STILL NOT RECEIVED AN ANSWER. I CHECKED ALL OF THE OTHER 2017 VAN LEIGH VILANOS ON OUR SALES LOT AND THEY ARE ALL WIRED THIS WAY.
