When trying to accelerate from a stop this truck lags and hesitates to the point of stalling almost when pulling into or crossing traffic. I have been in many near miss collisions due to the hesitation and lack of response. This has been going on since I’ve owned the truck in 22 and the dealership failed to address it or even acknowledge it.

Have notice a lot of throttle hesitation when taken off from a stop or after letting off the gas pedal and then hitting it again. A couple times it has made me feel un safe as there was on coming traffic and the truck took a second or to accelerate

Engine
Filed Nov 28, 2025TX

The vehicle hesitates when starting from a stop. It feels like the engine dies. This was a previous “recall”. Vehicle was “fixed” but still happening. I’ve informed Toyota of issue. No resolution. I’ve almost been hit twice at an intersection because of this.

I am experiencing throttle lag / hesitation when starting from a rolling stop and/ or complete stop. It doesn’t happen all the time, but does it sometimes and I have had to drastically change my driving habits.

Ever since I got this truck, I’ve experienced intermittent hesitation/lag when accelerating from a stop. I’ve reported it to the dealer several times and am always told they cannot reproduce. The problem was NOT improved after the engine replacement. This is dangerous - when pulling into traffic I cannot always count on my truck actually MOVING when I press the accelerator.

Throttle lag/hesitstaion , from a dead stop at stop sign I attempted to accelerate , my truck went a few inches forward and no pedal response after a 3 second delay my vehicle started accelerating again

Unknown or Other
Filed Nov 28, 2025WI

Very often when I go to press on the gas, there is a noticeable lag before my truck goes. When there is oncoming traffic it is to a point where I do not try to go in case it lags and could be dangerous. This seems to be a common problem when I talk to other owners of the same model truck.

Power Train
Filed Nov 27, 2025PA

Throttle lag/Hesitation when put into drive. Difficult to pull onto roadway unknown if truck will hesitate or take off quickly.

Power Train
Filed Nov 27, 2025LA

When accelerating from a stop the truck stumbles and does not take off. This is dangerous as people may run into you. I have asked many times at dealership if there is a fix yet and the answer is no.

THIS VEHICLE HAS TERRIBLE THROTTLE LAG/DELAY, SOMETIMES LASTING UP TO 4 SECONDS. THIS POSES A SERIOUS THREAT WHILE PULLING OUT IN TRAFFIC.

Engine

Throttle Lag. When stopped at a stop sign, I attempted to accelerate and when I pressed the pedal, the vehicle didn’t respond. I had to release the gas pedal, wait a second, then attempt to accelerate again. This time it responded.

Fuel/Propulsion System
Filed Nov 26, 2025NC

The truck has a hesitation to start from stop/slow state. This is concerning because when I start to accelerate, sometimes it doesn’t want to go for a 1-2 second time period making it unsafe to pull into traffic. It is sporadic and seems to happen more when I start and stop in quick succession.

Power Train
Filed Nov 25, 2025IL

I have experienced consistent vehicle jerking since the time of purchase, despite acquiring the vehicle brand new. This jerking typically manifests when maintaining a constant speed between 35-40 mph. Additionally, the vehicle occasionally exhibits a complete lack of acceleration. A particularly concerning incident occurred when I was attempting a left turn from a side road onto a main street with a 40 mph speed limit. Despite assessing sufficient time for the maneuver, the vehicle stalled for approximately one second upon acceleration, leaving me in the middle of the lane with approaching traffic. Similar instances of delayed acceleration have been observed when attempting sudden acceleration after a rolling stop.

Engine
Filed Nov 25, 2025NC

Engine locked up on the highway at 70mph. It’s Known issue but as it’s a hybrid they said no recall. It makes no sense as I lost power and if I was passing a semi or on a hill I would have been in trouble and risked causing an accident. I was lucky to be on a downhill and near a ramp. The hybrids need to be recalled and this problem creates a real risk.

Engine
Filed Nov 25, 2025WA

When completing a slow down, when going to accelerate there is a noticeable delay in the engine responding and before actual acceleration. This typically results in the need to press the pedal hard and suddenly it finally accelerates and at times spins the tires, almost uncontrollably. This has caused many near misses when trying to cross oncoming traffic, or entering traffic of a busy road or hwy. There have been no warning lights or indicators of any issues. This can be repeated on demand and even the dealership service tech has felt and acknowledged it. It is a common issue across the Gen 3 Tundras (2022+) models as found across many forums and owners.

What component failed and is it available for inspection? The front driver-side roof seam on my 2022 Toyota Tundra developed corrosion under the paint and eventually opened enough for rainwater to enter the cabin. Water drips directly into the A-pillar area onto the side curtain airbag wiring, squib connector, and padded harness. It also reaches the dashboard and electrical buttons near the steering wheel during rain. The roof seam, A-pillar wiring, interior rust staining, and all affected components remain available for inspection. How was safety put at risk? The A-pillar contains the SRS curtain airbag system, its wiring, and connectors that should never be exposed to moisture. Continuous water intrusion over many months can cause corrosion, increased resistance, short circuits, or damage to the airbag inflator/squib circuit, which may lead to unintended deployment or failure to deploy in a crash. Water reaching the dashboard controls and electrical switches could cause intermittent electrical faults or malfunction of driver controls. These issues present a significant safety risk because the vehicle’s airbag and electrical systems may not function as designed. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed? Yes. The Toyota dealer has repeatedly observed the active leak, interior rust streaks, and bubbling/corrosion along the roof seam. The water intrusion occurs every time it rains. Has the vehicle been inspected? Yes. Toyota has inspected the truck multiple times, including

I’m writing to report a driver’s-door lock malfunction on my 2022 Toyota Tundra and to request goodwill assistance (reimbursement or no-charge repair). VIN: [XXX] Mileage: 38,575 miles Concern: The driver’s door does not lock/unlock using the key fob or interior switch. Manual locking still works. Other doors operate normally. Safety/security impact: The vehicle cannot be reliably secured and the condition may leave the vehicle vulnerable when parked. Troubleshooting performed: Verified other doors work; checked fuses; inspected door-to-body wiring boot; issue appears isolated to the driver-side door lock actuator/latch. Requested resolution: Goodwill coverage for diagnosis and repair (or reimbursement if I proceed with repair now), including parts and labor for the driver-door lock actuator/latch assembly. I’ve been satisfied with the vehicle and would appreciate Toyota’s help resolving this known-type issue just beyond the 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty. Please open a case and advise next steps. I can provide service records, videos, and a dealer estimate upon request. Thank you for your assistance. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

While driving forward at approximately 20MPH, the automatic emergency brake system activated, causing the vehicle to come to a stop. There were no vehicles or other object in front of the vehicle that should have caused the automatic brake system to activate. This has been an ongoing problem with this vehicle. The system cannot be turned off or disabled by the driver. This system engaging on its own creates a major safety hazard, as vehicles behind have to stop to avoid hitting my stopped vehicle.

The contact owns a 2022 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 70 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the messages “Low Power Mode” and “See Dealer” were displayed on the instrument cluster before the vehicle stalled. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle and had the vehicle towed to a local dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine control software had failed and reinstalled a "Mechanic" software solution. The contact stated that the vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V381000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact was advised by the dealer that the engine recall would be completed in phases, and the VIN was not part of the current phase of repairs. The manufacturer was informed of the failure, and the agent informed the contact that the recall would run through 2029, or if the vehicle exceeded 100,000 miles, the recall repair would not be performed. The failure mileage was 82,170.

First I had my engine replaced in May 2025 under the recall and service advisor informed me it would be about 3 days before they completed the engine swap and it had to sit to make sure there were no leaks anywhere and in less than 24 hrs the called me and told me my truck was all done. I went to pick my truck up they had it waiting in the service line with the engine running, I heard a strange ticking noise coming from under my hood that sounded like a lawnmower engine, the service tech tells me that is normal with the replacement engines which is absolutely false. Being a woman they tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. I got frustrated and got in my truck and when I came to the first stoplight when the light turned green and I stepped on the gas pedal, my truck would not move, after about 5 seconds it surged forward and then again wouldn't move, then again my truck surged forward with a loud thud in the rear like somebody hit me from behind. It feels like it isn't kicking into gear and also my steering wheel was not centered when they swapped the engine so I have to hold my steering off to one side for my truck to drive straight. This has been a nightmare for me and Toyota refuses to acknowledge there is anything wrong. I've also been waiting for 7 months to get my front brakes fixed under the TSB and all they say is we don't have parts available, meanwhile they're building new trucks with new brake pads, rotors and calipers before taking care of the people waiting

Bought the truck from BILL LUKE MARANA was told there were no major safety issues with recalls and that the only recall was debris in engine that didn't have a fix yet.... drove the car from dealership to home, upon arriving home my wife smelled gas, i thought it was cleaning fluid smell or something. drove the truck to circle k smelled gas but though it was circle k . drove the truck once more to pick up an employee so i could drop him off to drive home the car i left at the dealer . During this drive the smell of gas became undeniable . Upon arrival home the truck was parked my employee ( who had been driving behind in a different car) jumped out and said the truck was spraying gas . My daughter exited the passenger side of the vehicle and was misted with gasoline. we subsequently found a fuel line was shooting out gasoline. I called bill Luke and told them to tow the truck back they said they couldn't so i was put in a position of having to drive the car back to the dealership. I was in fear of my life if driving this car so I was forced to pay a tow truck to return the truck to bill Luke. After speaking with bill Luke management I was told there are 2 major recalls with the vehicle first debris in the engine that can cause engine failure while driving and second a problem where the fuel line rubs against the brake drum or pad and can chafe to the point of leaking. The second recall issue is the one that put us in danger. I understand that recalls happen but I am under the

I recently put my boat in the water with my 2022 Toyota Tundra at local boat launch. When I put the boat in the water my truck registered a quarter tank of gas. After launching and loading the boat my truck registered a full tank of gas and would not reset or adjust the fuel gauge once it was on a level surface. I found several complaints on the Toyota forum regarding the fuel gauge improperly reading a full tank after being on an incline and not adjusting once on a level surface. I was forced to disconnect the negative battery cable to reset the fuel sensor. Fast forward the truck was at the dealer on 7/28/2025 for the engine replacement. I asked them to look into the fuel gauge sensor issue and was advised that there is a Toyota TSB for the sensor and it needed a computer reflash, but would not do the reflash at their expense. This is a safety issue that if not corrected may cause individuals to run out of gas while in motion on the highways causing the vehicle to stall causing a collision or road hazard.

Front Active Spoiler Malfunction Last week I took the vehicle into Toyota due to this malfunction message on the vehicle. The spoiler failed and remained in the down position, unknowingly causing additional damage to the spoiler flap. It was determined that the motor assembly was not working and needed to be replaced. The motor, flap and related assemblies were replaced under warranty by the dealership on 07/17/2025. Within 2 days, the spoiler was stuck in the down position again, this time without the malfunction message on the vehicle. With this being stuck in the down position, it can potentially cause more damage to the vehicle being in the down position and lead to debris in the roadway depending on the damage. Toyota manual states to avoid driving the vehicle at high speeds when this issue is present. However, owners with this issue would not know there is an issue if the vehicle is not presenting an error while functioning improperly. The vehicle is scheduled to be looked at again tomorrow 07/22/2025, at Corwin Toyota of Colorado Springs.

When attempting to move forward from a stop, there is a momentary delay in the truck responding to stepping on the accelerator pedal. This is a real safety concern when attempting to pull into traffic, as the "dead spot" in the pedal occurs after the truck has already moved forward a few feet, leaving the front end of the truck out in the traffic lane. It appears to be related to the automatic transmission starting in 4th gear, as I can move the shift lever to manual shifting mode and start out in 2nd gear with no hesitation. Once moving I simply move back to Drive mode. This has been an ongoing concern, reported from the first service (10k) on my truck, which now has 45k miles. I received the remedy engine at 37k miles under the safety recall. Toyota seems to be aware of the issue, as they flashed the TCM once, which seemed to help briefly, however the problem quickly returned. I am not the only Tundra owner reporting this issue.

After Toyota replaced the engine on my 2022 Tundra under recall, the truck developed serious issues that were not present before. The engine and powertrain system now knock, shake, stutter, and in multiple instances, the vehicle has shut off completely—including while driving and while stopped at intersections. These failures pose a significant safety risk to myself and others. Sudden loss of power in traffic or while braking has created close calls, especially when other vehicles are nearby. I no longer feel safe driving it. I have taken the truck to the Toyota dealership six times. They claim they cannot replicate the problem, but the symptoms return every time shortly after I leave. So far, the problem has not been confirmed by the dealer or any third party, but the issue is persistent and serious. The truck has only been inspected by the Toyota dealership. No inspections have been done by police, insurance, or other agencies. There are no warning lights or dashboard messages before or during these events. The symptoms began shortly after the engine was replaced and continue today. The vehicle is available for inspection if needed. Toyota has not resolved the issue, and I am concerned other owners who had the same recall engine replacement may be experiencing similar problems. I’m filing this to report a potential safety defect and ask NHTSA to investigate.

On [XXX] I was traveling in my 2022 Trd Pro Tundra 5.5 hv. I was taking a left turn at a green light, when all of the sudden lights appeared on my dash saying “HYBRID SYSTEM MALFUNCTION, visit your dealer”. The car continued to function for approximately 1 minute, until the next light where it turned off. I tried to turn the vehicle back on, but it started to shake when it tried to start. At this point I was stuck at the light with traffic behind me, the engine had failed and the hybrid system had failed as well. I had to call 911 and request an officer to come assist, because I was blocking traffic. The vehicle had to pulled to a lot where I could unhook my boat that was in tow, and tow the truck to the Beaver Toyota dealership. After arriving at the dealer and being there for over a week, I have been informed that they will be preforming a short block rebuild, because my truck is not listed in the 2022-2023 Toyota tundra recall. Even though my truck experienced the same engine failure due to debris in the engine as all the 2022-2023 tundras. My specific truck was not included in this recall because Toyota says the hybrid system would be able to move my car to a safe position if there was an engine failure. This was in fact not true because my hybrid system malfunction at the moment of the engine failure resulting in me stuck in the middle of the road blocking traffic having to call the police. Toyota needs to include trd pro hybrid owners in the 2022-2024 full block recall

Transmission or engine has a lag, or dead spot from a complete stop to acceleration, such as leaving a stop light. At times barely noticable, other times it seems the engine is going to die. Dangerous when pulling onto a busy street from a side street. Dealership says "unable to replicate" which is understandable, as it's somewhat intermittent. This appears to be with all model year 2022 and newer Toyota Tundras.

I have so many problems with my truck and the surging engine as well as squealing brakes, lane assist is disabled but comes on and jerks the truck out of my lane and it's impossible to steer almost causing me to crash numeroys times. Every time I try to get the engine replaced which I've been waiting over a year and I was in Phase 2 and every Toyota dealership tells me something different. I can't even sell this truck privately because it needs a new engine. I have 25,300 miles as of today and I've had it in the shop so many times and they say they can't find anything wrong with it. The headliner fell down onto my head and took it in for service and I got it back worse because they broke all the clips that hold the interior headliner in place and it's hanging down. Every time I bring it in for something they tell me the parts are not available but what they're doing is trying to make me run out of my warranty which is in 2 months. They're trying to sell me an extended warranty but they can't even fix anything that's under warranty right now. I really need your help here because there's so many other issues that I haven't even gone over. Everything is misaligned on this truck and they can't fix it my rear passenger door never latched correctly and they don't know what to do they just give it back to me the same way and I have small children that sit back there but they claim they don't know how to fix it.
