Stopping at a stop light, after coming to a complete stop, vehicle will want to slowly creep forward and you need to press a little harder on the brake pedal. If you don't pay attention, you will creep into the vehicle in front of you. I am in the transmission TSB range.

I am reporting a safety concern related to my Toyota vehicle involving the all-weather floor mat on the driver’s side. I have noticed that the mat consistently becomes caught on top of the clutch pedal when I press the pedal all the way down. This causes the mat to obstruct the pedal’s full range of motion, making it difficult to fully disengage the clutch. As a result, I have to be extremely cautious and pull over to manually adjust the mat whenever this happens, as it poses a potential safety hazard while driving. I have recorded a video showing this issue occurring, but the file size is too large to submit through the NHTSA portal. As an alternative, I have taken a screenshot from the video that clearly shows the mat interfering with the clutch pedal. I am concerned that this issue could lead to an unsafe driving situation, especially in emergency or high-stress driving conditions. I am requesting that this issue be investigated, as it may affect other vehicles with similar all-weather floor mats.
My 2024 Tacoma SR5 was stuttering and felt like the wheels are locking up when I accelerate I have to go very slow because when going anything over 30 MPH feels very unsafe and is hard to control and handle it shut off a lot of my systems like crash detection and 2-3 other ones are cut off on my dash it threw a check engine light so going to take it in to Toyota tomorrow to get it looked at I don’t know if I even want this truck anymore.
I bought the truck at 6 pm on [XXX] in Pennsylvania and drove straight home in Brooklyn, when trying to find a parking spot the truck started to act weird(10pm after 190 miles). The rpm was going really high with no power to the wheels and abruptly it seems to find gear and jumped off really fast a couple of times. I was driving in a residential area at low speed and was able to pull over to the curb. I could have hit a pedestrian, another car or lost control pretty badly if I was in a highway. After the initial incident all the lights came off (engine malfunction, brakes malfunction, collision system malfunction and others). The truck was towed and after a long wait, today the 5th of December, it was diagnosed as a transmission problem, Toyota is going order a new transmission and the broken one will be sent to Toyota for further inspection. They want to replace my truck and it seems they are not willing to cancel the deal. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
My new 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro with 2440 miles experienced a transmission failure as I was driving up a mountain highway. I lost most propulsion of the vehicle with no advanced notice. I barely was able to make it to a portion of the road with a shoulder. There was heavy traffic due to the thanksgiving holiday traffic. The error on the Vehicle indicated Hybrid System Failure. In the vehicle information I was able to access additional errors, “A malfunctions in the intelligent Clearance Sonar System has been detected”, and “A malfunction in the Drive Start Control System has been detected”. The vehicle was towed to a local Toyota dealer and the have diagnose that the transmission and a computer need to be replaced. The problem arose suddenly without warning and with out any prior issues.
The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently drifted to the left and jerked while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. Additionally, the instrument panel was not functioning properly. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the long block and torque converter had failed, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 188,000.
The driver's seat will not consistently hold the height, it will drop to the lowest height level on it's own
Engine is noisy during take off sounds like a rod knock the truck has 5k miles on it.
The A/C compressor has a chirp when the compressor is cycled on in the mornings it's done this since the day I drove it home from the dealership.
The air blows hard out of the vents when it's switched over to cold but when you move it over to heat it blows lightly like it's on the lowest fan speed but the fan is blowing on high it sounds like the air flow is being restricted.
When I was driving my new truck the transmission failed. It would not change gears forward or reverse. The RMP started ramping up in the red. Check engine light on drive start control malfunction. Advanced ultrasonic detecting and ranging system. The led screen was going hoops asking for code and updating while driving day before transmission went. Called dealer. Had the car towed. Later that day was told bye dealer the transmission needs to be replaced. Did research to find out Toyota new theses transmission are faulty and have not recalled. If I where on highway or similar roads I drive daily I would have been hurt. This problem will cause a accident. I am aware the NHTSA has been informed, reached out to Toyota and Toyota has not responded nor have they started a safety recall. My fear is they are waiting for someone to get hurt or killed. My dealer also informed me another customer with a tacoma has been waiting since may 2024 for a transmission.
When starting from a stop on at a stop light on a steep hill, the truck did not accelerate and started rolling backward almost hitting multiple vehicles. I was able to get it stopped but had to wait to get help to move it off the road before being able to get it moving forward again.
Apple Carplay does not mute music while playing or replying to a text message. The driver has to turn off the audio system to hear the text message and/or reply. This is not an issue with the Apple device, as it works as intended in other vehicles such as a 2020 Hyundai Kona and a 2024 GMC Sierra where it has been tested. This is a safety concern as it is distracting to the driver to have to intervene in order to use the Carplay functionality as it does not work like it is supposed to. It has been tested in both wireless and wired carplay and the issue persists.
The driver seat manual height adjustment. When you raise the drivers seat to the maximum height, within 30 minutes of driving, the seat slowly lowers on its own. I would have to give it 2-3 cranks to raise the seat. Overnight, the next morning, without anyone in the seat, it needs 2-3 cranks to raise the seat back to its maximum height. I’m afraid it may get worse in time and might just lower all the way down when driving. This is a daily occurrence.
Speedometer/odometer is incorrect and Toyota manufacturing says it cannot be fixed. Toyota sells this vehicle with two different size tires. The smaller is approximately 30.6 inches high and the larger is 32.61 inches high. Toyota manufacturing sets the odometer and speedometer for the larger tire and says that is the only option. That means that the speedometer is off by 4 miles an hour at 6 4 mph and for every 100 miles shown on the odometer, the truck has only traveled 98 miles. It’s frustrating to recalibrate in your mind. What the speed limit is versus what your truck is actually going, and it also throws off the warranty in Toyota‘s favor.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Transmission, and yes its available for inspection. When I put the truck into drive from park, and even reverse, the truck would jerk. (I have videos) When accelerating around 13-14mph, I could feel the transmission "gear searching" with rough shifting. When decelerating around 15-17mph, the transmission would down shift too early, producing the feeling of engine breaking, and again rough shifting. When I needed to really go, I experienced "transmission lag" where the engine would be working, reving up, the feeling of engaging the clutch (coasting feeling), then after a moment the gear would catch and the truck would finally take off. I took the truck to a dealership to have it checked out, but the technicians said they couldn't reproduce this issue. I called corporate and they sent me to another dealership. This dealership said the same thing, BUT went the next step and pulled some transmission fluid and found metal shavings. They had the truck for almost 3 weeks and replaced the transmission and torque converter. When I went to pick up the truck I put the truck into drive and felt the jerk I experienced before. I put it into reverse then drive, and again the whole truck jerks. I asked to speak to a manager and he said he can have the foreman look at it the next day. I made him get in the truck with me and showed him the truck jerking when placed into drive. Next day, foreman s
I purchased the 2024 Tacoma TRD Pro on 9/5/24. On 9/20/24 the Transmission failed with just over 1,000 miles driven on the truck. I was stopped at a traffic light when the problem occurred. Multiple sensor alarms were triggered including Hybrid System Malfunction. I attempted to accelerate when the light changed, but it was very sluggish and felt like it was trying to take off from a high gear. I was less than 1 mile from a Toyota dealership when the malfunction occurred and was able to get the truck to the dealership. After a week of troubleshooting, the dealership informed me that the transmission was stuck in 6th gear due to a solenoid failure and they would need to replace the transmission. The transmission is currently on backorder with an estimated delivery between 10/14 and 10/26. Based on the current estimate, by the time I get the truck back, i will have made two months of lease payments while only having the vehicle in my possession for 2 weeks.
When at stop light transmission would not fully engage and started thru intersection was only going approx 20 mph. Engine went to 3500 rpm before it shifted again. After I arrived at my destination started truck back up again and received warning on dash and check engine light came on. Had check engine and drive control system warning messages. Still had same problem with it at stop lights and transmission seemed to not be shifting properly. Was able to get it to dealer and next day received call from them stating that I needed new transmission.
●It makes a lot of vibration uphill 25-40mph. ●It feels like hunting gear when itñs shifting to the second gear. ●it got stock in second gear in the middle of the traffic and there was risk because cars where behind me yelling me.
Automatic transmission fault that locked the vehicle in 2nd gear. The vehicle was taken to a local dealership for service, and Toyota refused to replace the transmission and torque converter as per their own repair procedure, claiming it must be replicated in order to authorize the repair. This is an already known fault by Toyota, yet their response was that a dangerous condition has to be duplicated even though vehicle diagnostic codes show that two transmission solenoids were stuck, and even though I provided them photos of the multiple warnings on the driver’s dash from when it occurred. Other vehicles with the same condition have been repaired without question. Vehicle had 1,574 miles on it and 1,579 once I arrived at the dealer.
My Tacoma had approximately 221 miles on it. I was slowly driving "6mph" starting to pull into my driveway when all of a sudden all 4 brakes locked and came to a sudden stop. I took it to the dealership: Toyota of Wichita Falls (Texas). They found nothing wrong. There are other issues with this vehicle that the service person would not address. The vehicle was taken to the dealership [XXX] with 551 miles on it. Work order/Invoice number [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Chirp noise on cold start Coming from the a/c compressor, It goes away when warms up
The automatic will get stuck in a high gear, making it impossible to accelerate. I was almost hit trying to merge into traffic with the Transmission failing. Going from reverse to drive, the vehicle will "Buck", lurching forward. When at a red light, if the auto start/stop function kicks in, the car will also lurch into gear moving forward.
Purchased Truck with 127 Miles, at 327 miles noticed it wasn't shifting. Took truck back to Toyota and they stated there were metal shavings in the transmission and it needed to be replaced. They also stated they have no idea when they would be able to get a transmission.
New 2024 Tacoma sport. approx. 3800 miles. While driving automatic transmission revved hi, like it was in neutral. Lost power, went into limp mode. Multiple warnings on dash. Had truck towed to dealer. Next day they said transmission needed replaced. metal filings found inside transmission. Not sure how long it would be to repair. The dealership was very kind and sorry this happened. I told them it's not there fault, it's toyota
Drivers side front CV axle boot not clamped from factory. This caused grease to be thrown throughout wheel well including onto brakes. No warning lamps or indicators. Dealer confirmed issue but has no eta for parts to repair.
The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the Forward Collision Avoidance feature activated erroneously. The contact stated that the vehicle came to a complete stop. The contact stated that there were no vehicles nearby. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed of a potential software update. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000.
While driving on the highway A hybrid System Malfunction occurred, which caused the vehicle to be thrown into 2nd gear. Took the vehicle to dealership and they determined that the transmission had failed. The vehicle was only 1 week only and only had 822 miles on it.
While driving I received numerous system malfunction warnings followed by a message to visit my dealership. While driving into the dealership the vehicle started losing power and engine went into complete failure. It is now at dealership and waiting for it to be inspected. When alerts first went off I was unable to stop because I was on a busy dangerous street.
Transmission failure
The strut blew through the top hat on the drivers side strut assembly/strut mount driving on a state highway. This design has a cast aluminum top hat that bears the dynamic forces and shocks. It can, and in my case, did catastrophically fail. Had failure happened at higher speeds or under other circumstances it could impair controlability at speed. There are no warning lights or sensors available for this problem. Online owner's forums for the new 2024 model year of the Toyota Tacoma (so-called 4th generation) are starting to report this identical failure. The local dealer is replacing the defective components with the same components.
Transmission shifts rough in the morning from gears 1-2. I get some rough shifts when warmed up as well. With the about of automatic transmissions failing it’s time Toyota tell us what’s going on. How can we be expected to drive a new truck every day and worry about if the trans mission will fail.
My Tacoma SR5 with only 6000 miles of use failed the transmission or automatic gearbox when I was going on the highway hitting the transmission and neutralizing on several occasions having to exit the service channel abruptly so as not to get stranded in the middle of the highway and cause an accident. No warning light on the dashboard came on and according to the dealer it did not show errors or faults. On the third occasion they decided to leave it and tell me that the transmission had to be replaced. I have been waiting for more than 30 days for a response from the Toyota dealer with a promise that they would soon deliver my truck to me.
I was driving on the freeway going 68-70 MPH when I had a sudden loss of power. Vehicle could not maintain speeds and was sluggish while making it over to the side of the road. Vehicle was towed to dealership, which could not initially find anything. Next day after test driving vehicle, it was confirmed that the transmission is broken.
Gas gauge is showing the incorrect amount of fuel left. I filled up for gas 3 days ago, my commute is very short so I know I didn't burn through that much gas in 3 days. I was in between 3/4ths and full with 229 DTE before leaving. Got to my destination and I now had a full tank of gas and 246 DTE. I reset the gauge per the manual and it now shows 3/4ths with 176 DTE. Many people with Tundra's have had the same issue. Some say its due to filling up the tank past 3/4ths and parking on an incline. I would really hate to get stranded or run out of fuel driving around town. It has not been brought to the dealer yet I'm waiting to get an oil change. No warning messages or any kind and this is the first time happening at around 830 miles.
Eight speed transmission exhibited difficulty in downshifting to lower gears. Loud rumbling sound could be hard inside of truck cabin. Also, upon my inspection, found transmission fluid leaking on the garage floor. All of this occurred at less than 400 total miles on the vehicle. Vehicle was inspected by the local dealer Toyota Service Department and determined to be a defective transmission that must be replaced. It is possible that the transmission could have seized up while driving, causing the vehicle to be uncontrollable. No warning lamps or messages ...only the loud audible sound coming from the transmission. To date, it is unknown as to the cause of failure. At my request, Toyota has assigned a Case Number (#240809001043) and is investigating the failure.
5000 miles and new 2024 tacoma trd sport auto transmission stopped working . Gears 1-5 stopped engaging. Truck was stuck on road unable to move because truck was trying to start in 6th gear. Got truck towed to Toyota dealer. They contacted Toyota and stated transmission needs replacement along with torque converter. Truck has been at shop for 3 weeks now. Still waiting for parts to be delivered.
The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. No warning light was illuminated. The contact restarted the vehicle and drove to the residence. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was determined that the transmission was stuck in sixth gear, and the transmission needed to be replaced; however, the parts were on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 2,300.
I purchase new 2024 Toyota Tacoma sr truck, at approximately 200 miles. false warnings every time. like " Attention check rear seat" appeared every time after I turn off engine. and when there aren't any kids or pets back there. very frustrated. and this is a brand new truck. what kind of QUALITY CONTROL.
Pulled into a parking spot put the car in park. Engine stalled check engine light came on with “engine control system malfunctioning warning” . car will not start or completely turn off.
New vehicle abruptly began rumbling and shuddering. Vehicle became increasingly difficult to steer and control. Out of concern for driver safety, vehicle towed to dealer. Diagnosed with failed universal joint bearing and subsequent driveshaft damage.
The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the contact became aware of a large crack in the middle of the windshield. There was no impact to the windshield to cause the failure. The dealer was not contacted, and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000.
Hello NHTSA, I'm writing to you about a safety design concern (not a complaint, no incident happened) on my 2024 Toyota Tacoma. The rear brake lines are routed inside the wheel and have approximately 3/4" clearance. There is no room for error and brake failure may occur very easily with the line getting damage, even by removing and installing the wheel. My concern is safety for my family and self with future brake related failure. I contacted Toyota and their response was that they haven't heard of an incident and to take to the dealer. I'm sure the dealer will charge me for the visit and say there are no recalls and nothing damaged.
TRUCK IS ACTING LIKE IT IS IN NEUTRAL SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING. WILL REV SUPER HIGH WHEN GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 60, AS WELL AS NOT GOING FROM A STAND STILL. SHIFTING USING THE MANUAL MODE DOES NOT HELP IT AT ALL, AS IT STILL HAS THE SAME ISSUES. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, THE TRUCK IS HAVING HARD SHIFTS AND COMES OUT OF GEAR WHILE MOVING AND STOPPED.
Transmission experienced rough shifting from reverse to drive immediately followed by the inability to access gears 1-5. The transmission was within normal operating temperatures per the onboard temp readings. Going into park or neutral did not fix the issue. Stopping and restarting the engine allowed access to lower gears briefly, but once the vehicle shifted up, it could no longer access the lower gears. Shortly after this, the check engine light illuminated and the vehicle went into limp mode.
I bought a 2024 Tacoma TRD Off Road Premium Package through MAS ( Military Auto Source ). I picked the vehicle up from the Bremerhaven port in Germany on 08 July 2024 it was missing the back bed charging adapter box but MAS said they would cover the cost in writing to fix no big deal and I drove it back to Weiden Germany. Today 09 July 2024 I lost the ability to shift into 2nd, 4th, and 6th gear. There is only 2 of these vehicles in the country of germany right now. The vehicle has approximately 735 Km on it. It probably would have happen early had i been shifting more but the majority of my first in it was on the Autobaun in 6th gear going roughly 130 Km most of the way with no down shifting or ciry driving. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by a toyota tech due to the vehicle not being produced in Germany but it doesnt take a genius to look up the issue your having and see the exact thing from multiple other Toyota owners. Toyota would be best to buy this vehicle back and reach out to me. Vin [XXX] Below is the customer care email i requested be sent with my reference number and case number. The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission failed to function as intended. The contact stated that the transmission only shifted into 1st and 2nd gear. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. In addition, the contact was informed that the parts to complete the repair were on back order. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 2,543.
While pulling out of my drive way I noticed when I pressed the gas pedal my truck barely moved, it felt like it was in neutral. I pressed the gas pedal further and it started to move but the RPMs were around 6000 RPM. I then pulled to the side of the road and tried shifting it into different modes, cycling through manual and automatic, but still nothing. I then noticed that while in manual mode the display read “S6”. Which I deduced meant sixth gear. Not wanting to be late for work I just pressed on the gas pedal till the truck got moving and drove the 18 miles to work in sixth gear. After returning to my truck after work, I started it up and it worked fine. A few days later I reported it to the dealer and they had me bring it in for a diagnosis. A day later they reported to me that the truck experienced a transmission failure and would have to be replaced. As of right now I am still waiting to hear when the replacement transmission will arrive. The maintenance advisor stated he could not give me a time frame for the parts to arrive or when the work would be completed.
Vehicle only has 209 miles and the transmission is out ,not driveable
Truck has an issue where certain safety systems are disabled when a trailer is detected. This is normal. However, the truck is failing to notice once a trailer has been disconnected and this keeps the safety features disabled during normal driving. Toyota has yet to address the issue. There are many people complaining online. Not safe and very disappointing.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
