2002 Toyota Camry complaints
Owner reports filed with NHTSA about this vehicle, newest first and reproduced as filed. They are unverified accounts: one proves nothing, and a pattern across many is the thing worth reading. Back to the full 2002 record →
STARTING THE FIRST WEEK IHAD THE VEHICLE THE BRAKES WERE "NOT RIGHT" AND SEEMED TO MALFUNCTION INTERMITTENTLY ABOUT EVERY TWO DAYS UNTIL I FINALLY WENT THROUGH AN INTERSECTION AND WAS UNABLE TO STOP. THE DEALER CALIMS IT'S THE ABS BUT I'VE DRIVEN ABS VEHICLES FOR THE LAST 5 YRS WITHOUT EXPERIENCING THIS. THE SERVICE DEPT WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM ONCE AND STILL CLAIMS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG W/ THE CAR. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND HAVE WRITTEN A COMPLAINT TO TOYOTA CORPORATE WHO CLAIMS THERTE HAS BEEN NO OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THIS NATURE. *AK
AT ANY SPEED BRAKE PEDAL IS REALLY MUSHY, AND ONE TIME IT WENT TO THE FLOOR, VEHICLE EVENTUALLY STOPPED ON ITS OWN.*AK
Reading these
NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
