My New 2024 Model Y Tesla is having a computer failure - no navigation / GPS (stuck at last address when issue occurred) and no cameras (including rear camera). With limited rear windshield visibility and no backup camera functionality, we've been put in dangerous situations. They keep pushing out the service dates waiting on new parts / computers. I found this article that details the widespread issue and parts shortage. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Starting on 12/4/2024, my car's camera stopped working, no blind spot warning, no navigation, no rear view camera and no cruise control. Reported to Tesla on 12/8 and they said it is a known problem nationwide and some Autopilot computers are getting shut or something. They have given me an appointment for 1/4/2025. The vehicle is really unsafe to drive without these components working and the vehicle draws on heavy amount of battery usage without these controls and for my commute on highway, I am always nervous about if there is going to be enough for me to reach the next charging station. I would expect this falls into safety recall and Tesla should at least send out a service bulletin as well as provide alternate vehicles for the owners to use until this can be fixed.

With the new teslas (not sure about all but I know on the model y ). There is no way to reduce or turn off regenerative braking. Which on snow covered roads makes the car want to go into a skid. Only way to get around it is to force the car in to nutral ( also not great but better than the other option). Then use brakes so it slowed all wheels evenly.

Internal computer failed on two occasions in first 3 months of ownership. The internal computer controls nearly all safety features related to visibility and navigation. This includes failure of the backup cameras, lane change cameras, adaptive cruise, blind spot assist, and other driver assist safety features. Without these functioning systems the vehicle immediately becomes unsafe to drive. This failure occurred at 56 miles on the odometer, and the again +/- 2 months later at about 3000 miles.

Tesla has told me the AP4 computer has failed in my car which has resulted in them having to replace it. I had this issue start right around Thanksgiving. I scheduled the soonest appointment available for 01/03. Not offering me a rental or anything on my brand new '24 Tesla. It has just over 1,000 miles on it and is ~1 months old now. This issue impacts: emergency braking, blind spot detection, lane keep/centering, assisting with parking, automatic high beams and wipers, cruise control/ adaptive cruise control, back camera, Vehicles built in GPS to be stuck at one location every time, has made my touchscreen not automatically brighten or dim, my auto dimming mirrors be too dim in most driving conditions, constantly fail to install system improvements and safety updates, and because my vehicle keeps trying to do this, it has caused increased battery drain as well. This has increased the safety risk of my vehicle tremendously... Tesla has not seemed to publicly acknowledge the issue yet either.

On 12/13/24 after a software update my rear , front and side cameras stopped working. This includes blind spot cameras, and side turn signals. In addition the side mirrors are tiny because the car was designed to use cameras. The back window also has very low visibility. Tesla has confirmed that the car needs a new computer for all cameras and software navigation. The replacement computers are on back order and have scheduled a service replacement in six weeks time. In the meantime, they refuse to provide a loaner car. This car is brand new with only two months worth of usage. They say the car is drive able, but without the main safety cameras I don’t feel safe, the aesthetic of the car was designed to have working cameras. It is very hard to use the tiny side view mirrors and look out the tilted rear window. This is a commuter car, driving over 90 miles on highway per day. I am concerned for safety issues.

The cameras stopped working on my brand new Model Y Tesla. I filed a service request Dec 4th and it keeps getting pushed back (Currently Dec 26th with no ETA on part availability) because this part has a widespread issue on newer Model Ys. They are saying it is “Fried AP4 computer, remove and replace”. I just purchased it from Tesla in November. It only has around 1500 miles on it. I can’t use any cameras on my car including backup cameras, forward facing cameras, side cameras. No forward or rear warning or brake assist items work. It’s incredibly difficult to see out of the rear window when backing up without the cameras. I fear it’s a matter of time before I run over a little kid when backing up because the cameras don’t work. All camera and navigation systems stopped working on 11/30. With no cameras working, there are significant blind spots when driving. I cannot see anything when the car is in reverse due to no backup camera and the mirrors are stuck in a dark "tinted mode" further decreasing visibility when driving. The local Tesla service center says they do not have parts in stock to fix the issue. They have repeatedly delayed any scheduled service appointments, without offering any solutions. The car feels very unsafe to drive. There were no prior warnings of the issue, it just stopped working.

Widespread issues acknowledged privately by Tesla service managers, advisors, and engineers. Affects all models built from July 2024 to present with most recent “AP4” computer and hardware, primarily out of Fremont factory. Suddenly, computer is short circuiting. This results in MULTIPLE systems failing given effectively ALL systems are dependent upon this “AP4” computer and hardware, and initially causes GPS and Camera sensors to fail also. This system failure includes: -federally required rear view vision system -adaptive cruise control -automatic emergency braking -blind spot warning -forward collision warning -lane departure warning -lane keeping assistance -parking collision warning -rear cross traffic warning -visibility and wiper systems -all external lighting systems -speed control Internally, Tesla service advisors and managers are being told to advise customers that vehicles can be safely driven until fixed - which is currently diagnosed to be a removal and replacement of this “AP4”, which is heavily supply chain restricted. Customers are being told to wait “weeks” - with estimations in January and February - for this to be fixed. Service Advisors and managers are being told to not acknowledge clear safety concerns given vehicles are no longer compliant with all applicable federal laws and regulations, such as those requiring rear view vision field of view expansion, etc. Further, internally Sales advisors and Managers are being told to continue heavily pushing sale

I think Tesla knows about this issue and there is lot of wait time for getting the AP4 computer. Tesla service advisor states - car is totally safe to drive with just mirrors till appointment in few weeks. As per NHTSA, if a car is not having a backup camera, that is a safety violation and there are lots of Tesla vehicles driving without backup cameras. No backup camera, navigation, battery life dying faster. It seems like a liability to me to drive this way and very negligent to me.

This is a widespread issue that Tesla Service Centers have been informed about from Tesla that it is a bad computer that needs to be replaced - in a 1 MONTH old car. Hello, I have a 2024 Tesla Model Y (Fremont Build) that was purchased in early September 2014. On or around November 30th a software update "fried" the computer according to Tesla. The call the computer AP4... Anyway, they have no ability to fix the issue because of lack of parts. They make an appt for you and then keep cancelling it. I've had two so far that they cancelled because of not having parts. There are thousands of users on Reddit complaining about the same thing. My specific complaint, is this is a safety issue for the Model Y in particular because the mirrors and rear window are inadequate for this size of a car. Visibility to the sides and rear of the car are poor when compared to other vehicles. The rear window and rear view mirror are very small. You cannot see much out of it especially when backing up. Parking in a parking lot is very problematic and dangerous because that's where people are often walking around. The side view mirrors are better than the rear view, but the driver side mirror keeps self adjusting while driving and I have to keep messing with it which makes it unreliable for use. Tesla has been awful in keeping up. Please help!

I took delivery on a 2025 Tesla Y on Oct 17. All cameras and gps stopped working on Nov 30, including the backup camera. Based on posts online, this problem is widespread but Tesla has not sent any notification. Tesla Service says the computer has to be replaced and there is a lengthy delay in getting the replacements. My appointment has been moved twice, from Dec 5 to Dec 9 and now to Jan 9. For months, many people will be driving without a backup camera in a car not designed for visibility. It’s a real safety issue and at a minimum tesla should warn current owners of the problem and stop delivering the cars that will likely be impacted. Instead, i have been unable to get any acknowledgement from Tesla that this is a known or widespread issue. They are also not making loaner cars available while waiting for the part to fix the problem. I’ve been told “it’s not a safety issue.”
