Multiple, random occurrences of hard braking at highway speeds when there was no object or obstruction ahead. In the 2-1/2 years we’ve owned the car this has happened on two lane and multiple lane highways, generally at speeds over 50 mph. Also, the windshield wipers randomly deploy even when turned completely off. They generally work when it’s raining but the delay function is also randomly not in sync with the settings or actual rainfall.

I have only driven my car for 10k miles in past 2 years. I have been on 3 long trips only. Every trip has become scary because one or the other tire turns flat right on busy highways with my little kids in it. I have had one replacement and two repairs on the only long trips I made. No other car I have have had any flat tires till date on the same routes in past 10 years. Tesla vehicles are heavy and they make tires prone to this posing a safety hazard. Tesla should either publicly announce this or give some solution since if known no one would want to take this vehicle with this kind of risk. I have asked tesla technicians and it seems it does not matter what company's tire it is.
I engaged Tesla autopilot (FSD) as I left my house to pick up my son. The car started accelerating and swerved sharp left and ran over one of our neighbors' front yard leaving damages to their yard as well as my car. All 4 tires and wheels are damaged as it ran over the concrete curve and the front bumper of the car is damaged.
On [XXX], traveling westbound from [XXX] on [XXX] using adaptive cruise control. Pick-up truck rapidly pulled up behind and cruise control shut off, stated "unavailable" and Tesla started to brake...manually overrode. Travelled another 1/4 mile and reengaged cruise control after pulling away from following pickup. Pickup caught up and cruise control shut off again. At 4-way stop on [XXX] , rechecked system and then headed for [XXX] on adaptive cruise control. Pickup came up again and cruise control shut off. At next intersection I turned right and pickup turned left...had "electronics" sign on side of truck. Not able to get full name. Question: Is there electronic systems "out there" that can take control of Tesla adaptive cruise controls? I tried to pass this on to Tesla, but wouldn't or couldn't take the above message. Our cars suspension was replaced under warranty in October 2023 and by Aug 2024 it had failed again. Our tires have been ruined prematurely for the second time.
Charge port didn't allow to latch the charge cable. So the car lost the ability to be charged. This failure first time happened in December 2023. A mobile service technician visited my home to look into it. He checked and was able to restore the working of latch again. He didn't replace any part. This problem again happened on a very hot day (above 43 degree C) on 4th July when me and my family were away from home and were routed to a fast charger which was more than 70 miles from my home. The battery at that time was showing only 35 miles range left. I was forced to drop my car in nearest service center which was closed due to 4th July. Me and my Family were stranded on the road in harsh temperature conditions. Some how I reached back home by alternate means. It took more than 5 days Service center touched the car and fixed the car. Per there report they replaced the charge port on my car. The problem happened again on July 29 but got resolved on its own. I visited Service center again on 15 August and was give a detailed form to fill up next time the problem happens. I was told that they will do some further diagnosis but they didn't even touched the car as the problem was not showing at that time. I have strong feeling that this problem can happen again and may leave me again stranded on road without any support. I have lost confidence to drive this car for longer distance where I may need to charge on the way. The issue happens without any warning and will show up right a
The contact owns a 2022 Tesla Model Y. The contact stated while driving 20-25 MPH, the hood unexpectedly opened, struck the windshield, and obstructed the visibility of the road. The contact was able to pull into a parking lot. The contact stated that while attempting to close the hood, he noticed that the hood struts were completely damaged. The contact removed the struts and closed the hood manually. The vehicle was taken to a Tesla Service Center, where the contact was informed that the vehicle data recorder was missing information on the failure. The Tesla Service Center replaced the windshield at the owner expense. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V554000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages, Electrical System); which the contact related to the failure. The Tesla Service Center informed the contact that the hood repair could not be covered under the recall because the failure could be related to an aftermarket accessory that the contact had installed on the hood. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 28,000.
On [XXX] we charged enough more than 80% limit to travel towards Knoxville . The vehicle indicated we have enough charge to reach Knoxville supercharger. Kindly note our vehicle has set like that it can’t go more than 80mph. While we’re closer to severville, the vehicle still indicated that I need to drive to Knoxville but indicated battery percentage will be -2% means we will not be able to drive safely and reach Knoxville supercharge as family and might be stranded in middle of night somewhere without any help and safety compromised. This is series issue in vehicle diagnostic and projection while driving it and trusting to take us to right place with proper guidance to supercharger availability. It created a great panic to our family in middle of night. This has to be investigated for misguiding the customers about mileage model-y can go and it’s capability to project supercharger availability to safely drive with family. We panicked and found out supercharger [XXX] in [XXX] in Sevierville that model-y will NOT route or guide us to get charged. This caused reliability and approvals to let such vehicle to be sold which can put everyone at risk. What if we didn’t find our self the charger and vehicle suddenly stopped in middle of traffic that could have caused accident or rear-ending. It’s serious safety issue that vehicle is not evaluating and projecting right information to travel on Road. I have taken pictures while this happened and can attach them. Also we all can witnes
The contact owns a 2022 Tesla Model Y. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked in a parking lot, the Smart Summon feature was activated when suddenly the vehicle reversed, veered in its left direction, ran over the lane bumpers, and crashed into a handicap pole. The contact mentioned that he is handicapped and utilized the feature for his condition and it had never failed in the past. No warning lights were illuminated. A police report was not filed. The dealer was contacted, and the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired however pending an appointment with the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 12,409.
The front triple camera glass was found to be dirty on the interior part of the glass. I had alerts of camera blocked/blinded and also I had several instances of emergency corrective maneuvers including braking, lane assists and forward collision warnings. Tesla cleaned the interior of part of the glass.
Tesla's autopilot/Full Self Drive feature is reading Minimum Speed Limit signs as the speed limit and slowing to 40 mph on 70 mph highways. This is happening to many Tesla owners who are talking about it on social media platforms like Reddit. The cameras usually read speed limit signs and either slows or accelerates to match the posted speed limit. With the most recent software update it's now reading Minimum Speed Limit signs and sometimes random highway signs, such as GA 25, and slows to 25 mph. It was dangerous for me specifically when I was passing a slow-moving big rig this past weekend. As I passed the truck doing roughly 75 mph the car saw a minimum speed limit sign and immediately slowed to 40 just as I was getting back into the right lane. That's downright dangerous.
Front passenger safety restraint system fault service is required error. this just appeared on my screen when my wife sat in the passenger seat.
Here is what happened. I was traveling on a narrow winding two-lane road at night when, desiring to see the information on the current drive, I reached down to the lower left corner of the touchscreen to change the small sub-panel located there. It was on the music panel so I swiped to the left to change to the trip information panel. As soon as I swiped to the left my lights went out and I'm driving in total darkness! In complete fear of running off the road I managed to stop and switch on the 4-way flashers. Someone that had been following me went on around about the time I got the flashes on. Fortunately, I had stopped still on the road and pretty much on my side. (It could have been much worse!) Quite scared and flustered I managed to get the lights switched back on. I don't remember, but I must have used the normal lighting control buttons on the main touchscreen panel. For a while I had no idea how it happened but eventually figured it out. Whenever you change your lights with the turn-signal stalk (go to dim, to bright or flash them) a small sub-panel pops up in the lower left corner of the touchscreen with all the light control buttons. It stays for about 4 seconds and goes away automatically. So, if you reach down to start or pause the music a few seconds after dimming you lights, your headlights go OFF - the OFF button falls where the Play/Pause button was located a few seconds before. But its much worse than that. You can also simply swipe to the left (what I had d
When driving home and try to make a left turn, the steering doesn't work and car suddenly speed up even though try to brake, the whole car is out of control, and the car hit my neighbor, and it's extremely dangerous! Thank god that no one is hurt. Police came and did a report but didn't say anything about Tesla. After that, I checked the alert history, nothing special, the only alert is remind me that window cleaner is running low. I tried to contact Tesla but failed, no one answer the phone call, no where to report. Everything is too bad
The FSD is not fully matured and I have tried multiple times and all times and the experience is weird and very hard braking and no control on parking lots. So not sure why this is called Fully self driving capability by Tesla? I have paid 12k for this capability in my car and unfortunately it's not fully functional. Hope some safety precautions will be taken for the safety of the drivers and passengers. Happy to provide more details if needed. Thank you
Tesla will not fix: Tesla Pushed a Spring Software update which introduces risk to pedestrians and risk of accident including rear-ending. In the past an image of the car is on the left side of the screen and a large map is on the right side of the screen. With this update, the map is removed from the right side of the screen when not in gear. If the car is in gear it remains on the screen. To setup ADAS destination it now works best if you have the car in gear. If the car is in park you have only full screen car image and extra steps to get the large map. If you voice command destination you may never see the map until driving on road. You should be driving at that point not interacting with the screen. Accident and pedestrians at risk while using screen. For instance if you get in the car and issue a voice command to destination with only one location the tiny map image in the far upper right corner of the screen displays a route so small and completely without detail it could be wrong but you just assume it is correct because it will take extra user interface interaction to make it large enough to tell what it is actually going to do. You put the car in reverse and back into the street, put the car in drive and now you get the full size map, route, destination for the first time and route is wrong. When in park, interacting with the map you don't really know what will cause the map to go away and be replaced by the car image. Can happen if you change destination entry. The
Tesla broke Automatic wiper function with a software update in 2023. Models other than Model Y have or have had this issue. There is no setting or adjustment I can make and Tesla has not made it a priority to fix this. They spend all of their resources doing other things. Nobody at Tesla is listening. New feature after new feature and screen changes are released but no fix for wipers. This is a conic years long recurring issue with Tesla cars. Tesla service can not fix software issues. It seems Tesla will never fix the issue. It creates a safety problem when driving because you must take your attention off the road and interact with the screen or try and remember the various voice commands to control them, or look at the screen while scrolling a wheel (you must pre-configure ahead of time to do this) while looking at the screen to see what gets selected on the screen, or do everything manually on the center screen. Attention is pulled off the road frequently regardless of weather. Currently in dry weather the wipers turn on unpredictably and often. Hour after hour on a long trip and you battle them all day long. Wipers are switched to Auto every time you use a driver assistance system such as Autopilot or Full Self Driving. You repeatedly disable auto wipers using your choice of method all day long. You are ready to rip wipers off the car by the end of the day. In wet weather auto wipers don't turn off when the rain has ended temporarily or becomes a mist needing only an occa
Safety issue with Tesla's auto pilot braking without cause in the middle of freeway. Many times accidents were about to happen when I intervened and press onto the gas pedal. It seems like there are other complaints and not sure why NHTSA is not doing about it? Is Tesla that powerful that government does not want to disturb anything?
Phantom braking occurred when the adaptive cruise was engaged when a truck entered the road from the right side. The car abruptly slowed when the truck crossed my lane although there was no eminent danger. The car behind us nearly collided with us due to the sudden braking incident. This is the third sudden braking incident; however, the others were related to a bridge or overpass.

On June,05,2024 there was a storm and there was flood areas. I drove the vehicle while passing these parts came out because water underneath removed them. The manufacturer did not tight the screws correctly and water caused detachment underneath behind the electric battery where the Rear electric motor is located. I reported this and schedule a service appointment but Tesla the manufacturer said they will not cover this under warranty. This is not fair. This should be secure and safe and not detached on its own when water hits it. This should be cover under the manufacturer warranty.
Two incidents: 1) Non-accident: My wife was slowing to make a right turn at a stop light and the steering locked up for about 3 seconds, where she wasn't able to regain manual steering control. We did not have full self-driving mode at the time. Luckily, she was only going about 10 mph, and was able to brake before running into oncoming traffic. 2) Accident: Our son was driving on a country road, along a section with a slight curve. We had a free trial for full self-driving mode during the previous month, but it ended two weeks before the accident, so he could not have had it in self-driving mode. It appears that he didn't make the curve, but as evidenced by a single long tire skid mark, continued almost perfectly straight, across the oncoming lane, and ran into a redwood tree. The car rolled and ended up upside down, against the bank back on the right side of the road, with the lithium batteries on fire. Our son and his passenger sustained severe injuries and neither has a memory of what caused the accident. Naturally we suspect the possibility that the steering locked up again. But it also seems likely that the AEB and ABS were not functioning correctly, as if they were, there should have been several short skid marks for the tires on both sides of the car, rather than only a single long skid mark. Additionally, there's no shoulder on that road, and there is a clump of bushes that come very close to the white line, so it's possible that a steering auto-correct initiated the
On two occasions, the Tesla hijacked 911 calls during emergencies. One time I was inside someone's house talking to 911. Suddenly I was cut off. The 911 call was hijacked by the Tesla and the person in the car did not understand how to respond to the emergency. On the second occasion, I was outside the vehicle, but the windows were open. I called 911 and was talking to them, but then the Tesla hijacked the call. I tried to continue the conversation through the open windows of the car, but this route of communication suddenly stopped. I changed to speakerphone and was able to complete the call through my phone. Tesla states that all car systems that use Bluetooth (Tesla, Apple Carplay) have this feature and that all is operating normally. (I guess if all employees steal from their employer, all is normal when someone steals from their employer.) Tesla says that before making a call, someone would have to disconnect Bluetooth or unpair the phone from the car. But that is not the solution. Tesla should use, for example, the in vehicle camera to determine if someone is in the vehicle before hijacking the phone call through Bluetooth and there should be an active prompt for Tesla to take over the call. Since Bluetooth is needed in order to unlock the vehicle, it is not a good solution to force users to turn Bluetooth on and off on the phone. Tesla indicated that they would log the complaint, but kept saying that since every other car did this they would probably not take correctiv
My Tesla model Y performance 2022 was purchased on September 26, 2022. I found that the left rear wheel was leaking in July 2023. After other tire repair shops failed to find the cause of the leak, I went to the Alhambra Tesla service center for further inspection. They found that my wheels rims had cracks that caused the tire to leak very slowly. These cracks are invisible to the naked eye (I still have this wheel rim at home). During my negotiation with this Tesla service center, they told me that it was my use that caused the wheels rims to crack, and they would not be responsible for the wheels rims. I disagreed with their decision and bought a new WHEEL RIM at my own expense. I use this car for work. I have never driven this car for strenuous exercise or to steep mountains. This is my vehicle usage scenario. In February 2024, the same situation occurred on my right rear wheel. My wheel began to leak slowly and I couldn't find the reason. After multiple inspections, Tesla service center found that there was a very small crack in the right rear wheel rim. The conclusion of TESLA SERVICE CENTER is still that my use caused the crack of the wheel rims. TESLA MODEL Y PERFORMANCE is a high-performance sports car. The wheels rims are specially made 22 inches and are produced by the original factory. There have been many cases of wheels rims cracking in 18 months. I hope to attract your attention and conduct product quality inspections, which is very important for safety.

I just got T-Boned in my 2022 Model Y performance. I got out of the vehicle which wasn't in terrible condition, in fact the left side of the vehicle was still perfect and the doors worked fine. I had my dog with me and everyone was okay, but I opened my door and the back passenger door to grab a jacket and check on my dog. I shut the doors to make sure he didn't run out and was a bit out of it because of the accident impact so I took a moment to compose myself.. All of the car's lights flickered and then the electric cut off leaving the doors completely locked and inoperable even though they had just been used moments before and were not damaged in the accident. I had to climb in through a shattered glass window to get my dog as all the doors wouldn't open from the outside and I was unable to access the glove box, nor pry it open because the electricity was out and the impact caused that door to make the side panel to unlock the glove box manually accessible. If the car DID catch fire or an occupant were bleeding out: Anyone inside, unconscious, would be unable to use the manually release and would be burned alive while people pull on doors that won't open that were undamaged in the accident and working 60 seconds before. From what I have read the only solution would be to jump the car using the 12V battery in the Frunk of which the Tow company and Emergency Responders were not familiar with.
The adaptive cruise control doesn’t function correctly. I was on the freeway, which was 70 MPH, and all of a sudden the vehicle breaker abruptly while in autopilot. I saw that it registered the max speed as 40 MPH. It almost caused a collision.
I was sideswiped by another vehicle which just joined our direction of traffic coming out of a cutout. As soon as I saw the vehicle moving fast from inside the cutout to join our direction and into my lane, I immediately decided to move to the lane next to me. I was at the leftmost lane at the time. Halfway into the lane I just felt the violent impact of the other vehicle hitting us. My wife and I were shaken so bad, we were shocked and terrified at what just happened and what else might happen to us. I felt like we were travelling on the front wheels with our rear end up in the air. Next thing we knew, the car stopped in front of a tree. Our iphones and the our car's phone called 911. We were pulled out of the car and taken immediately into an ambulance and Orange Global Hospital, where we stayed for about 2 days. X rays, CT Scan and MRI were taken. NOTE: A ROD STICKING OUT FROM THE FLOOR HIT MY WIFE during the accident. This rod was connected to the wheel and was not supposed to be stick out inside the car during an accident! I BELIEVE THAT A DEFAULT IN CAR DESIGN CAUSED THIS ROD TO HIT MY WIFE , WHICH CAUSED SO MUCH PAIN, DOCTORS COMPARED HER BRUISED RIBS TO BROKEN RIBS!!
I've had Enhanced autopilot since June 24 2022. Since that time I've accumulated approximately 15,000 miles, with approximately 80% being auto pilot miles. On May 14th my car was upgraded to "Full Self Driving (Supervised)" without my consent. I was given 30 days of FSD trial, with no way to opt out. I was presented with a software upgrade that looked like a normal upgrade, however after the upgrade I was told I had FSD. I immediately disabled FSD, only enabling autopilot (Highway only), and attempted a drive from Fairfield, CA to Concord CA along [XXX]. During the drive, the car was not able to maintain lane control, and would suddenly apply hard braking randomly. On two occasions the car accelerated towards stopped traffic, and I had to disengage autopilot. I ended up manually driving the car as it was unsafe to use to assistive systems. I contacted Tesla, who said they where unable to remove the FSD trial, and I was stuck with the upgrade, even though it made the car unsafe to drive. The screws of front left lower control arm my Model Y came off. There was initially a clicking noise and the noise turned into a larger "boom" noise and when control arm came completely detached from my car. There were two large bolts found below the car. The car was relatively new and never been in an kind of accident or had any type of impact. Luckily, I was backing the car out of my driveway when this occurred, or this could have been a more severe accident, if it occurred while driving on the road. The entire hood of the car landed on the front left tire and there was no way for the car to move. It was towed to the Tesla service center, where they fixed the car. It was covered under my warranty as the car only has 16,700 miles on it. The service center was unable to diagnose the root cause of this issue. The service center indicated that they have seen similar issues to this, but in very rare instances. They said the car is now safe to drive, but this was something I have never had happen with any other car in 30 years of driving. However, I felt that I had to notify someone of this issue.
HVAC system in vehicle seemed to lack power since first use and now the HVAC system doesn’t operate (cold or hot).
The contact owns a 2022 Tesla Model Y. The contact stated that while driving with the Autonomous driving feature activated, the system deactivated unintendedly. While driving at highway speeds, the safety feature was inoperable. The contact stated that there was not enough time to take over the vehicle. The contact had to pull over to rest the system. While driving at 65 MPH, the safety feature was deactivated. The local dealer was contacted but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 41,757.
Middle seatbelt buckle fails to latch. Normal use, just stopped working.
I was performing a 3-point turn on a residential street. While reversing during the turn the Automatic Emergency Braking enabled and slammed on the brakes, bringing the car to a complete halt instantly. This caused my head to hit the headrest with enough force that I have headaches and brain fog the next day, indicating a concussion. I was 10 feet from the nearest parked vehicle when reversing; the AEB kicked in erroneously. This is not the first time that Tesla's AEB has erroneously and dangerously engaged while I was driving.
Incident Report: Model Y Autopilot Anomaly Incident Details: Date and Time: April 18th, 2024, approximately 11:44 AM PST Location: I-405 Northbound Vehicle: 2022 Model Y Autopilot Setting: Full Autopilot engaged at 65 miles per hour Description: While driving my Model Y on I-405 Northbound, I experienced a sudden and unexpected event. As I reached for a bag containing an apple, the car abruptly veered left toward the middle concrete divider that separates the Southbound and Northbound lanes. The impact resulted in a noticeable scratch sound as the car brushed against the divider. Challenging Autopilot Behavior During this incident, I felt like I was wrestling with the Autopilot system. It took approximately 7 seconds of back-and-forth struggle before I regained control of the vehicle. Fortunately, there were no other cars nearby, and both the car and I remained unharmed. The outcome felt like a true miracle. Summary In summary, the Autopilot system executed a sudden maneuver without any prior warning. The experience left me shaken, and I continue to have nightmares about what had happened. I have saved 4 videos which recorded the accident.
The contact owns a 2022 Tesla Model Y. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle at 5 MPH, the central display became inoperable and turned black. The contact stated that the vehicle was locked and she was unable to exit the vehicle. The contact received assistance from a bystander who opened the door from the outside. After that, the contact stated she was able to drive to her destination. The contact stated she contacted the dealer and they advised her to take the vehicle for diagnosis. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that she experienced another incident with the vehicle. The vehicle was parked in front of a veterinary clinic when suddenly the vehicle accelerated on its own and she was unable to stop it which led her to crash into the veterinary clinic building. The contact didn't experience any injuries. No police report failed. The vehicle was not repaired they related the incident with an operator error malfunction. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.
Autopilot began beeping with messages to pay attention while on highway. Moving the wheel did not remove message to the point car was shaking in lane due to turning the wheel. Warning beeps and messages got louder and more distracting and would not go away until brake petal was used at highway speeds to disengage autopilot.
A Tesla Model Y has one screen which is all instruments, warning indicators and reverse camera. On March 3rd, 2024 I had just completed about a 40 mile drive. I parked the vehicle for approximately three minutes and upon returning to the vehicle the screen failed to turn on. The vehicle ran and drove perfectly normally, but I had zero instrumentation or warning indicators. I drove home about two miles this way without incident. Upon exiting the car and closing the door (which is the equivalent to turning off the key in a traditional vehicle), the screen turned back on as normal and has since not repeated this issue. I contacted Tesla service about it and even sent them a video showing the vehicle operating with the screen not functioning and I was told to just reboot the car and they brushed it off and would not see the vehicle over this incident.
Tesla has failed to provide a software update to address both recalls, and has made it impossible for me to get support to have this rectified. They cancelled a service appointment I made and are no longer responding to my inquiries.
Vehicle had a software update. After software update the car can see all speed limit signs while driving except for 65 mph sign. Traveling into a town car will register 45 mph, 35 mph, 25 mph signs and update the max speed to reflect the speed limit. However 65 mph signs are completely ignored. Resulting in the max speed being the speed of the last sign passed. Ie leaving a town where speed limit goes from 35 to 45 and then finally to 65 the speed on the car will only register the 45 sign and thus driver is unable to set the cruise or use autopilot at the correct speed. Contact was made with the service department but was told it was there was inconsistency between what the camera is seeing versus what is posted in the navigation maps package. It was submitted for review and will be fixed in the future but until then the only way to use cruise control at 65 is to get off onto a side road where no speed limit sign is posted turn around and get back onto the highway. I have since had 2 more software updates to the car and it is still broken.
See attached document for complaint
In the Tesla Full Self-Drive adaptive cruise control system the set speed arbitrarily and abruptly drops from the set speed to 40 mph on an interstate highway. In other words, if set to 70 it will drop instantly to 40 mph for no reason.
Unwanted Lane Assistance in Tesla Model Y made the car swerve to side. When I tried correcting it, the steering got hard to control and whole car swirled 360 degrees and hit shoulder rail. Brakes didn’t slow the car.
Autopilot will suddenly start to slow down on highway and freeway speeds with no warning, this has happened more than 4 times. The last time that this happened me and my partner almost got rear-ended.
I was using the Summon feature and the vehicle scraped another car. The safety features that keep the vehicle from hitting an object did not work.
The front license plate holder, which is attached to the vehicle with two strips of double-sided adhesive tape, became detached while driving on the highway. This occurred while driving on the highway without any prior collision or impact that could have caused such damage. The detachment resulted in damage to the vehicle’s paint on the bumper, dislodgement of the ultrasonic parking sensor, and the license plate holder itself flying off the vehicle. I have ordered a replacement plate at my expense. Safety Concerns: There was no prior warning or indication of instability of the license plate holder. Tesla’s provided literature does not include instructions for regular checks or maintenance of the plate frame, nor are there warnings against the potential risks of car washes on the adhesive’s integrity. Previous Incidents: Online forums and discussions among Tesla owners reveal multiple instances of similar occurrences, indicating a pattern that suggests a potential defect in the design or materials used for the license plate holder’s attachment. Response from Manufacturer: Upon contacting Tesla regarding the incident, I was informed that they consider this situation akin to a collision and hold me solely responsible for all repairs. Despite the availability of video footage and telemetry data from my vehicle that could confirm the absence of a collision, Tesla has declined to utilize these resources to investigate the incident further. Requested Action: I urge the NHTSA to cons
I was using Autopilot (adaptive cruise control) in the toll lane. The toll lane has stretches with double white lines that separate that lane from the other, regular freeway lanes. Drivers are not supposed to cross those double white lines. In some parts of toll lane, there are sections where drivers can merge in or out of the toll lane/carpool line into or from the regular freeway lane. As I was using Autopilot in the toll lane/carpool lane, the car suddenly veered at high speed to merge into the regular freeway lane rather than staying straight in the toll lane. I had to take control of the wheel to keep the car from veering into the adjacent regular freeway lane.

We bought a 2022 Tesla Y performance in August 2023. Love the car but customer service in the service center is and has been beyond horrible and frustrating. We had a back seat (driver side) panel that was not snapped in properly. In November 2023 we took it to a service center so they could fix it. They said they needed to order the part and they would send someone to come to our house to fix it. On 2 different occasions someone came to our house to fix it. The first service tech replaced the bottom piece but it wasn’t snapping in securely so he said they need to order the middle piece. The 2nd service tech came to the house and said they did not send him with the correct part and he will schedule an appt for us to come to the service center. We scheduled an appt to go to ant other service center (an hour away) and they had our car for a couple hours and gave us a loaner. When my husband went to pick it up they did not fix the panel and it was not snapped in correctly. We have a picture of it. They said they would have to order the part and schedule us to come back to fix it. We went back and they said it would be 2 hours and my husband was already waiting an hour. They did not fix it and we left. Very rude customer service.
Tesla is using camera-only detection for Forward Collision Warning system and this leads to numerous false positive alerts. I'm filing a complaint because this did occur today (March 7, 2024), but this has happened countless times in my 2 years of ownership. This particular incident was triggered by cars parked along a curved street in my neighbor, while I was traveling approximately 20 mph with no other vehicles driving around me. These occur from simply driving next to parked cars or slowly approaching vehicles at a traffic light. When these faulty alerts occur, a loud audible beeping is heard and red alerts are displayed on the screen. These faulty alerts are dangerous distractions, causing panic, fear, and uncertainty in the driver, causing them to take their attention off of the road while they assess what just occurred. This is a critical flaw in the functionality of Tesla vehicles that the company has refused to address.
This is not a defect but rather something I consider could be dangerous. On slippery conditions example, during heavy snow fall, or when there is slush or if there is an icy surface, I find that the AWD system in my vehicle which is all controlled via software that the manufacturer wrote (because it is a dual electric motor setup, and there is no mechanical connection between the front and rear axle), tends to either send too much power or tried to regen too much to/from the front motor when the steering wheel is turned (something they can detect), and it tends to cause unexpected understeering which if you are not accustomed either to driving an electric car or Tesla’s AWD system could end up in a potential accident. I am writing to you because I know that my voice will go unheard since I do not have access to any of their feedback challenge. Again I do not consider that a potential dange, nothing imminent or defective with the vehicle. The fix in my opinion is a software update that could impliment road surface detection via their vision, in combination the steering angle sensor wheel slippage detection, to detect that the trajectory of the vehicle is not going as desired and mitigate that through multiple techniques of traction control, I know that with a RWD Tesla they do use the front brakes in certain conditions to force the wheels to dig in the snow and try to find traction from experience even though there is no front motor.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
