NHTSA campaign 94V237000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Crown Coach Corporation: Structure › Body

Crown Coach Corporation reported this defect to federal regulators on Nov 28, 1994 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 872. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

FLOOR DETERIORATION DUE TO WATER SEEPAGE.

The risk

FLOOR DETERIORATION CAN CAUSE THE FLOOR TO COLLAPSE, WHICH COULD RESULT IN INJURY TO PASSENGERS OR OPERATORS.

The remedy

THE FLOORS OF ALL THE RECALLED BUSES WILL BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION, A "WATER FLOW" TEST WILL BE CONDUCTED ON ALL BUSES TO DETERMINE LEAKAGE SOURCES AND MAGNITUDE. ON THE OLD STYLE BUSES, WATER LEAKS WILL BE REMEDIED BY RESEALING THE DRIP RAIL AND FRONT COWL; AND ON NEW STYLE BUSES, RESPACING THE "RUB RAIL" AWAY FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE "WATERSHED," CREATING A 3/16 INCH GAP WHICH WILL ALLOW THE WATER TO FLOW OFF THE BUS.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 94V237000.
