NHTSA campaign 24V959000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Gillig, LLC: Electrical System › Ignition › Interlock/Lockout

Gillig, LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on Dec 20, 2024 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 332. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Gillig, LLC (Gillig) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Low Floor style transit buses. The high voltage electric air compressor may not be connected to the High Voltage Interlock Loop (HVIL). Therefore, the HVIL cannot detect a loose or disconnected compressor power cable.

The risk

Failure to alert the operator to a power cable issue can increase the risk of injury by electrical shock.

The remedy

Dealers will install an additional electrical harness, extending the HVIL loop to the air compressor, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 12, 2025. Owners may contact GILLIG customer service at 1-800-735-1500.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 24V959000.
