NHTSA campaign 24V921000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Gillig, LLC: Electrical System › Instrument Panel › Speedometer/Odometer

Gillig, LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on Dec 11, 2024 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 9. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Gillig, LLC (Gillig) is recalling certain 2023 Low Floor diesel-hybrid transit buses. During vehicle operations in full electric vehicle (EV) mode, the odometer will not display accumulated mileage. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 101, "Controls and Displays."

The risk

A missing odometer reading could lead to an unintended delay in critical safety-related maintenance, potentially impairing the safe operation of the vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Gillig will install a new speedometer gauge, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 20, 2024. Owners may contact Gillig customer service at 1-800-735-1500 or 1-510-264-5073.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 24V921000.
