PACCAR Incorporated: Steering › Linkages › Knuckle › Spindle › Arm

PACCAR Incorporated reported this defect to federal regulators on Jan 25, 2024 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 68. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2024 Peterbilt 367, 389, 520, 567, and Kenworth T800, T880, W900, and W990 trucks. The bearing journals may not be fully seated in the steering knuckle assemblies, preventing the proper installation of the wheel end hub assemblies.

The risk

An improperly installed wheel end hub assembly can leak oil, causing the axle spindles to loosen or fracture and increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Dealers will inspect and replace the steering knuckle assemblies as necessary, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed February 23, 2024. Owners may contact Peterbilt customer service at 1-940-591-4220 and/or Kenworth customer service at 1-425-828-5888. PACCAR's numbers for this recall are 24PBB and 24KWB.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 24V043000.
