NHTSA campaign 21V066000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Trail King Industries, Inc.: Service Brakes, Air › Disc › Caliper

Trail King Industries, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Feb 11, 2021 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 47. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Trail King Industries, Inc. (Trail King) is recalling certain 2019-2021 TKHDG, TKAMG, TKAHG, TKHG, TKMG, TKMB, and TKLPSD trailers equipped with disc brakes and a yoke-type suspension. Sealant may be missing on the disc brake chamber extension tube on the front axle, possibly allowing water intrusion which can cause corrosion or freezing of the brake caliper mechanism.

The risk

If the disc brake's caliper mechanism corrodes or freezes, it can reduce front braking effectiveness, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Trail King began notifying owners, and dealers will inspect the front axle brake system, and seal the disc brake extension tube on the front axle, as necessary, free of charge. If water has intruded into the caliper mechanism and caused corrosion, the caliper will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began February 17, 2021. Owners may contact Trail King customer service at 1-800-843-3324. Trail King's number for this recall is TK202101.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 21V066000.
