Thor Motor Coach: Electrical System › 12v/24v/48v Battery › Cables

Thor Motor Coach reported this defect to federal regulators on Jul 20, 2020 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 63. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain 2021 Daybreak, Four Winds, Quantum, Chateau, and Freedom Elite motorhomes built on the 2020 Ford E-Series chassis. The battery cable may not have been properly secured within the chassis rail, which can cause it to contact the exhaust manifold and heat shield.

The risk

Battery cable contact with the exhaust manifold and heat shield can increase the risk of a fire.

The remedy

TMC will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the routing of the battery cable. If needed the cable will be re-routed and properly secured, free of charge. This recall began September 11, 2020. Owners may contact TMC customer service at 1-877-855-2867. TMC's number for this recall is RC000197.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 20V419000.
