Terex South Dakota, Inc.: Equipment

Terex South Dakota, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Apr 29, 2020 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 43. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Terex South Dakota, Inc. (Terex) is recalling certain 2019-2020 TL80 and TL80/112 aerial devices. The installed slope indicator and decals incorrectly state that the chassis can be 5 degrees out of level for aerial device use.

The risk

If the aerial device is used with the chassis out of level it may result in an unstable condition which may cause the unit to tip, increasing the risk of injury to the operator and any bystanders.

The remedy

Terex will notify owners, and dealers will replace the incorrect slope indicator and decals, free of charge. The recall began May 12, 2020. Owners may contact Terex customer service at 1-605-882-4000. Terex's number for this recall is SN685.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 20V240000.
