NHTSA campaign 20V237000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Forest River, Inc.: Seat Belts › Front › Retractor

Forest River, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Apr 28, 2020 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 2. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2020 StarTrans P/S2 ST93036 transit buses equipped with Freedman GO-ES foldaway seats. The seat belt retractor block out zone may have not been set correctly, potentially resulting in a seat belt that may not properly secure the occupant. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies."

The risk

An unsecured occupant has an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.

The remedy

Forest River notified the dealers and they will inspect and replace the retractors, free of charge. The recall began June 7, 2020. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-800-348-7440 or Freedman Seating customer service at 1-800-443-4540. Forest River's number for this recall is 05-1158.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 20V237000.
