Isuzu Technical Center of America, Inc.: Seat Belts › Front › Webbing

Isuzu Technical Center of America, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Jan 17, 2020 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 1,138. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Isuzu Technical Center of America, Inc. (Isuzu) is recalling certain 2020 Isuzu NPR HD, NPR XD, NQR and NRR and Chevrolet 4500HD, 4500XD, 5500HD and 5500XD and 2019 Isuzu NPR HD GAS, NPR GAS and Chevrolet 4500 and Chevrolet 3500 vehicles equipped with a dual mode belt locking mechanism seat belt assembly. Due to a manufacturing issue, the seat belt webbing locking mechanism may not properly restrain the occupant as intended.

The risk

In the event of a crash, if the occupant is not properly restrained, there is an increased risk of injury.

The remedy

Isuzu will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the seat belt assembly, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began February 20, 2020. Owners may contact Isuzu customer service at 1-866-441-9638 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. Isuzu's number for this recall is V2001.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 20V025000.
