NHTSA campaign 19V799000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Thor Motor Coach: Exterior Lighting

Thor Motor Coach reported this defect to federal regulators on Nov 7, 2019 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 1,785. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain 2014-2017 Tuscany XTE (models 34ST, 36MQ, 40AX, 40BX, 40EX and 40GQ), 2013-2018 Tuscany (models 38SQ, 40DX, 40KQ, 40RX, 42GX, 42HQ, 42WX, 44MT 45AT and 45LT) and 2016-2020 Venetian (models A40, B42, F42, G36, J40, L40, M37, R40, S40, and T42) motorhomes. The rear reflectors within the taillight lens may be too high, reducing the vehicle's visibility. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

The risk

The incorrectly positioned reflectors may make the motorhome less visible to others on the road, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

TMC will notify owners, and dealers will install adhesive reflectors, free of charge. The recall began January 2, 2020. Owners may contact TMC customer service at 1-877-855-2867. TMC's number for this recall is RC000180.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 19V799000.
