Daimler Trucks North America LLC: Structure › Body › Roof and Pillars

Daimler Trucks North America LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on Dec 10, 2018 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 32. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner C2 transit buses. The roof adhesive that supports the roof header may not have been properly applied.

The risk

Improperly applied adhesive may affect the roof header joint strength, which, in the event of a rollover crash, can increase the risk of injury.

The remedy

DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the placement of the roof header adhesive, and install mechanical fasteners, as necessary, free of charge. DTNA issued and interim notification to owners on February 1, 2019. The recall began March 25, 2020. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is FL-801.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 18V878000.
