NHTSA campaign 18V561000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Daimler Trucks North America LLC: Seats

Daimler Trucks North America LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on Aug 23, 2018 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 33. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner C2 school buses, equipped with S3B 45" Restraint School Bus Seats. In the event of a crash, the seat's foot may pull through the bolted joint at the bus floor. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 210, "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."

The risk

In the event of a crash, if the seat detaches from the floor, it can increase the risk of injury.

The remedy

DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will install a washer between the rear mounting foot, and the bus floor to keep the seat secured, free of charge. The recall began October 17, 2018. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is FL787.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 18V561000.
