Altec Industries Inc.: Trailer Hitches
Altec Industries Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on May 29, 2018 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 201. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Altec Industries Inc. (Altec) is recalling certain 2012-2018 Altec LS63 and LS87 aerial devices equipped with a pintle hook mounted into the Class 3 receiver tube. This towing combination was shipped without a placard that provides the maximum allowable towing limit, possibly resulting in the receiver tube being overloaded.
The risk
An overloaded receiver tube could detach, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy
Altec will notify owners, and provide them with a placard that states the limit of the receiver tube assembly as 600lbs vertical load, and 6,000lbs towing capacity, free of charge. The recall began on July 25, 2018. Owners may contact Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832. Altec's number for this recall is CSN 684.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 18V348000.
