New Flyer of America Inc.: Service Brakes, Air › Antilock
New Flyer of America Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Jan 9, 2018 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 283. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
New Flyer of America Inc. (New Flyer) is recalling certain 2017 XD40, XDE40, XN40, XT60, and 2016-2017 XDE60 transit buses. The air brake hose connections for the front axle ABS modulator valves may not be properly tightened, possibly resulting in the air brake hose disconnecting. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 121, "Air Brake Systems."
The risk
If the brake hose disconnects from the ABS modulator valve, there will be no brake force applied to either of the front axle brake assemblies, lengthening the needed braking distance and increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy
New Flyer will notify owners, and will reconnect the air hose using the proper tightness, free of charge. The recall began on January 11, 2018. Owners may contact New Flyer customer service at 1-204-224-6706. New Flyer's number for this recall is R18-001.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 18V020000.
