Daimler Trucks North America LLC: Engine

Daimler Trucks North America LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on May 24, 2017 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 736. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Freightliner Custom Chassis S2G Chassis trucks. The vehicles have an airline hose and the engine block coolant heater wire that may not have been properly routed and secured during production.

The risk

The affected airline and wire may contact the exhaust pipe, possibly resulting in melting and shorting, increasing the risk of a fire.

The remedy

DTNA will notify the owners, and dealers will inspect and correct the airline and heater cord routing and secure them, if needed, free of charge. An interim notice was mailed to owners on July 18, 2017. The recall began on September 29, 2017. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is FL-739.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 17V338000.
