NHTSA campaign 17V043000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Daimler Trucks North America LLC: Electrical System › Software

Daimler Trucks North America LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on Jan 19, 2017 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 769. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Freightliner Business Class M2, 108SD, and 114SD trucks. The affected trucks have been modified to be equipped with both left hand and right hand instrument clusters. Due to incompatibilities between the displays, the instrument clusters and/or turn signals may become unresponsive.

The risk

Unresponsive instrument clusters and/or turn signals can increase the risk of a crash.

The remedy

DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the left instrument cluster with a cluster compatible with the right display, free of charge. The recall began on May 8, 2017. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is FL731.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 17V043000.
