NHTSA campaign 16V861000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Cummins Inc.: Structure › Body › Door › Hinge and Attachments

Cummins Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Nov 30, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 164. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Cummins Inc. (Cummins) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Cummins Power Generation Generator sets, models C60D6R, C150D2RE, C100D6R, C200D6R, C200D2RE, C275D2RE, and C300D6R, manufactured December 18, 2015, to October 3, 2016. The affected generator sets have been mounted on trailers, and due to the possibility that the door hinges may fail, the generator set doors may detach while the trailer is being moved.

The risk

If the door detaches, it can become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Cummins will notify owners, and dealers will replace the hinges, free of charge. The recall began on December 16, 2016. Owners may contact Cummins customer service at 1-800-343-7357.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V861000.
