Heil Company: Parking Brake
Heil Company reported this defect to federal regulators on Jul 11, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 203. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Heil Company (Heil) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Petroleum, Crude, Dry Bulk and Flatbed trailers manufactured January 1, 2014, to June 18, 2016. These trailers are equipped with certain Bendix SR5 spring brake valves which may have been improperly machined which could cause a delay of application of the spring brakes while parking.
The risk
If there is a delay of the spring brake application, the trailer may roll away after it has decoupled from the tractor, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
The remedy
Heil will contact owners and Bendix will provide a remedy kit, complete with instructions, to repair any affected SR-5 trailer relay valves, free of charge. The recall began on September 23, 2016. Owners may contact Heil customer service at 1-800-400-6913.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V525000.
