NHTSA campaign 16V217000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Forest River, Inc.: Structure › Emergency › Escape/Egress/Exit

Forest River, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Apr 14, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 1,860. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2008-2016 Glaval Bus Apollo, Concorde II, Entourage, Legacy, Primetime, Sport, Titan, Titan II, and Titan II Low Floor transit buses manufactured from August 1, 2008, through March 6, 2016. The labels on the rear emergency exit window are not located within 16 centimeters of the release mechanisms as required. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 217, "Bus Emergency Exits and Window Retention and Release."

The risk

If the label is not located the correct distance from the mechanism, it may hinder an occupant's ability to open the emergency window and escape from the vehicle quickly in the event of an emergency.

The remedy

Forest River will notify owners, and provide a new label along with instructions for the correct placement of the label on the window. The label and instructions will be provided free of charge. The recall began on June 9, 2016. Owners may contact Glaval Bus customer service at 1-574-642-3112. Forest River's number for this campaign is 35-04112016-0168.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V217000.
