NHTSA campaign 16V207000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Daimler Trucks North America LLC: Tires

Daimler Trucks North America LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on Apr 12, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 4. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain model year 2016 114SD and M2 Business Class trucks manufactured from June 10, 2015, through October 1, 2015. The affected vehicles have front axles that have a 20,000 pound capacity, however, the installed Bridgestone R249 front tires have a lower maximum load capacity.

The risk

The operator may unintentionally overload the tires, possibly causing tire failure thereby increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front tires with tires of a higher load capacity, free of charge. The recall began on June 7, 2016. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 800-547-0712. DTNA's recall number for this campaign is FL-706.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V207000.
