NHTSA campaign 16V142000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Setra of North America: Suspension › Front › Control Arm

Setra of North America reported this defect to federal regulators on Mar 8, 2016 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 7. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Setra of North America (Setra) is recalling certain model year 2005-2009 S417 coaches manufactured March 1, 2005, to February 28, 2009, that had service part lower control arm(s) installed. The hot crimping that connects the tube ends to the control arm joint housing shafts may crack, causing the tube to separate from the shaft.

The risk

Should the tube crack and separate from the shaft of the vehicle, loss of vehicle control is possible, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

MCI, the sales agent for these vehicles, notified owners verbally, and dealers will replace the lower control arms, free of charge. The recall began on March 28, 2016. Owners may contact Setra customer service at 1-800-241-2947. Setra's number for this recall is 33.10U10124B.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 16V142000.
