Mack Trucks, Inc.: Engine and Engine Cooling › Engine
Mack Trucks, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on May 11, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 2,124. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Mack Trucks, Inc. (Mack) is recalling certain model year 2011-2016 Mack MRU and LEU trucks manufactured June 25, 2010, to April 30, 2015, and 2015-2016 LR6 trucks manufactured from December 18, 2014 through March 6, 2015. Excessive engine crankcase pressures may cause the 90-degree elbow of the vent tube assembly to detach from the crankcase ventilation breather, possibly allowing engine oil to come into contact with hot surfaces.
The risk
If engine oil comes into contact with a hot surface, there could be an increased risk of a fire.
The remedy
Cummins will notify owners on behalf of Mack, and Cummins service centers will administer the repairs which include securing the ends of the 90-degree elbow and reprogramming the electronic control module (ECM) with software that can adjust the engine output under misfire conditions to limit crankcase pressures. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on June 12, 2015. Owners may contact Mack customer service at 1-800-528-6586 or Cummins Inc. at 1-800-343-7357. Mack's number for this recall is SC0391.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V275000.
