Trans-Air Manufacturing Corp.: Equipment › Appliance › Air Conditioner

Trans-Air Manufacturing Corp. reported this defect to federal regulators on Apr 10, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 835. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Trans-Air Manufacturing Corp. (Trans-Air) is recalling certain model year 2006-2014 GM G3500 and G4500 vehicles modified with Trans-Air add-on compressor mount kits, part numbers 4012506-01, 4012506-02, 4013126-01, 4013126-02, 4013235-01, 4013235-02, 4012909, 4013125, 4013222 and 717173 installed by Trans-Air personnel. After installing a compressor, a power distribution terminal strip may not have been properly reconnected.

The risk

If the power distribution terminal strip has a poor connection or a loose connection, the strip may arc or overheat, increasing the risk of a vehicle fire.

The remedy

Trans-Air will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the power distribution terminal strip connection, correcting it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on May 29, 2015. Owners may contact Trans-Air customer service at 1-800-673-2446.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V213000.
