Mack Trucks, Inc.: Steering › Linkages › Tie Rod Assembly
Mack Trucks, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Nov 18, 2014 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 1,048. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Mack Trucks, Inc. (Mack) is recalling certain model year 2015 CHU and CXU trucks manufactured from March 31, 2014, through June 26, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the collars that prevent the ball sockets from backing out of the tie rod may have been incorrectly positioned. This may allow the ball sockets to come loose.
The risk
If the ball sockets come loose from the tie rod, a complete loss of steering may result, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy
Mack will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and re-position the collar if necessary, free of charge. The recall began on January 20, 2015. Owners may contact Mack customer service at 1-800-528-6586. Mack's number for this recall is SC0385.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 14V737000.
