NHTSA campaign 13V632000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Airstream, Inc.: Unknown or Other

Airstream, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Dec 18, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 552. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Airstream, Inc. (Airstream) is recalling 2013-2014 Airstream Interstate recereational vehicles manufactured August 2012 through October 2013. In the affected vehicles, the installation of the propane tank and the regulator may damage the regulator, allowing propane to escape out of the safety release vent if it experiences an over pressurized condition.

The risk

If the vehicle is parked in an enclosed storage area, in the presence of an ignition source, the escaping propane can collect and potentially cause a fire and or explosion to occur.

The remedy

Airstream will notify owners, and dealers will replace the regulator on the propane tank, free of charge. The recall began on February 4, 2014. Owners may contact the Airstream Warranty/Service Department by phone at 1-937-596-6111.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V632000.
