NHTSA campaign 13V582000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Jet Company, Inc.: Structure

Jet Company, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Nov 20, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 278. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Jet Company, Inc. (Jet Co) is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 38, 40 and 42-foot Aluminum Grain Trailers, manufactured May 2010 through July 2011 and equipped with a 6061-T6 aluminum extrusion 2X5 top tube. The top rail on the sides of the trailer may be too weak to prevent the trailer from buckling.

The risk

If the trailer buckles it could result in a loss of control, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Jet Co will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the top rail to see if the material is strong enough, and if necessary, add an aluminum reinforcement free of charge. The recall began on January 27, 2014. Owners may contact Jet Co. at 1-515-332-3117. Jet Co's recall number is 384042ATR.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V582000.
